Aya Matsui episodes

85 in total according to Bulbapedia’s list, of which 78 are regular main series episodes in AG, DP, XY, SM and JN (with 11 episodes in JN).

In addition she also held the role of Series Construction for SM.

thanks! Any thoughts on Aya steping down after Sun and Moon, are her JN episodes callback to her SM days, I heard praise about XY but never much about SM

She wrote all the Alola episodes except the one with the All-Out Brothers as well as most of episodes focusing on Chloe's Eevee. I'd say she definitely had a good run of episodes for JN with the only big major dud being the last episode focusing on Chloe.

SM is one of my favourite series. It felt different from the others (whereas XY, for example, built on the old format) and used that platform to tell slightly different stories. I feel like Satoshi and the TRio in particular were the freshest they’d been possibly since OS. I’m surprised you haven’t heard praise about it because I feel like the consensus (after people calmed down about the changes) was overall positive, at least on these forums.

As for her stepping down, I have no idea as to why - was it her choice or was she pushed - but I do think it’s a real shame. JN was outright bad as a series IMO. I don’t think we can lay the blame solely at Yonemura’s feet (it had a high stink of executive meddling) but I can’t help but feel that Matsui would have managed to make it all a little more cohesive, based on her performance in SM.
