hi, I just acquired an azelf with jolly nature and I was just wondering if this set would have a good use for a lead slot in my team.

Azelf@choice scarf
jolly (Speed+,special attack-)
252Atk/252Spe/4HP
stealth rock
trick
zen headbutt
explosion

In theory, I could come in, trick a choice scarf onto another lead, then proceed to set up stealth rock, they may switch. OR, I could set up a super fast stealth rock, then switch, and trick a choice scarf onto another pokemon later in the game. explosion is there for a kill on a troublesome pokemon.
I was just wanted peoples opinions, before I start putting costly moves on, and EV training.

For a Jolly Azelf I'd recommend it as more of a support Pokemon. For a lead I'd prefer a mixed Naive nature with Fire Blast and Explosion.

A Dual Screen Azelf would fit nicely with that nature, of course having explosion. Actually, this would probably would VERY well as a lead, especially if you're big time on the offense. Dual Screens help a LOT.

Try this one on for size:

Azelf @ Light Clay
Jolly Nature
252 HP / 6 Def / 252 Spe
-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Explosion / Stealth Rock
-Taunt / Stealth Rock

yeh that would be good, so you just go for setting up stealth rock, both screens, then explode? this would be pretty good for my team, they probably gonna need screen support.
thank you!

I think there cool to, I've actually wanted one for absolutely ages.

Actually, Azelf makes a very nice in-game sweeper. It has Nasty Plot, so when you bulk up Defense it can get in a few boosts, then Baton Pass or Thunderbolt.

As much as I like this set, I'm pretty sure this isn't meant for a lead but rather supporting for a sweep that you're not apt to do in the first few turns of the game. It loses too readily to other leads. Aerodactyl will Taunt you, Metagross beats you more badly than the standard lead set, and enemy Azelf just laugh at you with their Sash. I've never personally used it, so maybe you know more about it than I do because in theory the reduced damage from having Reflect up helps you last long enough to accomplish a lot.

As for the Azelf in the OP, Just replace trick with Taunt and slap on a Focus Sash. No need to get fancy, just set up your rocks and have that threatening Explosion in reserve.

ok, thank you, becuase my team is missing stealth rock at the moment, s I really need to set it up. so I would set up rocks first turn, then explode when the opponent gets me to one health? or taunt first turn if I'm faster, then zenheadbutt, then explode?

I appreciate that you said that. (=

You're right though, it's theorymoning. The set works terrifically as a lead. Aerodactyl isn't as common as you can imagine, and while taunting another Azelf isn't gonna do you very well, setting up Reflect will. Now, using this in doubles... would be foolish. But it works VERY well in OU and it helps protect your team while they begin to sweep the hell out of your opponent.

If you're using a hyper offensive team, no stall tactics whatsoever, laying out Stealth Rocks isn't as important as getting your screens up. THIS Azelf works to help that, and in turn earns its rank as being one of the best leads FOR a hyper offensive team.

Aero is the second most common lead. And Uxie has the bulk to pull off trick scarf better, imo. Try a physical choice scarf set to deal with mence, and other +1 base 100's whoi ocan be locked into EQ.

My Azelf lead is superior. Most people would say it's an antilead probably.

Azelf @ choice scarf
modest
4 hp, 252 special attack, 252 speed
thunderbolt
hidden power [ground]
grass knot
fire blast

Wrecks non focus sash Ninjask and Areodactyl, Swampert, Heatran, Infernape, and Hippowdon. 2HKOs Metagross, Tyranitar, Jirachi, and other Azelf. The best is when they try to trick a choice scarf onto it.

I wasn't saying it doesn't. Trickscarf Uxie is good. o_o;

But aren't we talking about Azelf? Not saying TrickScarf Azelf isn't good, but it has a Jolly nature, not a Naive one. You're probably going to be mixed as a TS Lead.

Therefore a dual screen lead is good.

I was just saying it was better as a revenge killer than a lead. Uxie out classes it in other non scuicide lead situations, imo, and there is no point using it when there are better options
