The prize this year was built on good intentions, which, quite frankly, isn't good enough.
It seems to be the award this year was for him not being McCain or Bush. Which is the very height of childishness.
That might be, although I don't belive the Nobel comity actually looked at Bush. I think they believed that giving Obama this prize would inspire him to work harder for peace. He's after all one of the most influential people on Earth. I don't think that's a wise decision however, as there are more prominent candidates that really would have deserved the prize for their work (not fancy words).
But hey, it's not Obama's fault either.
No no of course not, but I doubt it will help his already faltering image in the US
As for him being not Bush, well it's a point, although I can't really say that Bush is getting that award any time soon.
But people like Henry Kissinger have got it. Did he deserve it? Did Yassir Arafat deserve it?
I wonder if they just want their photo with Obama.
Al Gore got it, he certainly did not deserve it.
Then what was the official reasoning to why he got it? I can't really remember.
The Big Al said:Obama's numbers are actually rebounding.
Drudge is reporting that Obama will accept the prize on behalf of Americans and America's values. Of course the easy joke is "Well he has to, because he has nothing else to accept it for"
It's interesting to note that another theory has cropped up: “The Nobel Committee was not rewarding Obama. It was attempting to geld him.” in other words to try to keep him away from tough action on Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran.
I wonder the procedure for declining a Nobel prize is.
In order to push him to take a much more diplomatic stance. The world is crazy like that. @3@
