Dear god. This is what the anime has named Pearl?
Barry?
BARRY?!
I headdesked over and over again when I first read that was his Anime name.

I mean, WHY Barry? Calling Gold and Kris Jimmy and Marina was bad, but come on... I can think of a hundred different names. Barry is just...urgh.:sweat:

Is their anyone else who dislikes this name?
 
I do dislike his name. His japanese name is Jun, which sounds so much better! Barry just sounds...meh.

Seriously. Barry is the first default name for the character in the games. (Same as Jun in the Japanese version)
 
Sorry. I don't watch the new anime much anymore and I didn't look at the default name in D/P. I named the rival Satoshi
That gives me a reason, but doesn't make he hate it any less.
 
I have no problem with his name. As far as there's some reference to games, I don't care.
I have bigger problem with Jimmy and Marina whose names has absolutely nothing to do with their game counterparts. I know it's the same in Japanese too, but that didn't make it better IMO.

And Marina was the character's original name... calling characters "Gold" "Red" and so on is much worse in my opinion
 
Barry FTW. I did not like it when I found out that was the rivals name in D/P at first (I named him Tony), but after a while I got used to it (also with Tony and Barry being similar names) and even named him Barry in Platinum.
 
Barry is a decent name and it rhymes with Gary.
I'm more pissed on the lines that Junichi was named Jackson then Vincent.

BTW Barry is a default name in both Diamond and Platinum. And NONE of the playable characters in the games are named after their respective versions in the anime, unlike Special. They were given default names.
 
For me I don't find nothing wrong with the name Barry as I know alot of Barry's where I live and I'm used to the name, but I guess the name just isn't for everyone, I think most people are disappointed that it wasn't Damion that they picked.
I was expecting his name to be Barry since it was the first name on the list of Pokemon Diamond and Platinum, it was the same for his japanese name Jun in the japanese games. I like his name and I think it suits him well. ^^

I am not for calling Jimmy Gold. What I mean is that for all other game-based characters, anime used some of their game default names. This is valid for Ash, Gary, May, Dawn and now even for Barry. But for some strange and stupid reason, Marina and Jimmy are exception. And there were many names they can use for Jimmy, and Marina can easilly stay Kris, which AFAIK is actual name.
 
I like the name Barry for him. Don't see anything wrong with it. And I actually find it rather fitting in a way.

This confuses me. Why did most/some people expect the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum's rival's name to be Damion? I looked up his list of names and found out it was only used in one game, it was the second name choice in Diamond. The fact that Barry was used in two game, as was Jun in the Japanese version which Barry replaced, should have been obvious that's the name his anime counterpart would get.
 
I hate the fact that they called him Barry too. He doesn't look like a Barry. I just keep calling him Jun to save myself the bother of calling him something that doesn't suit him.
 
Oh, OK then.

Anyway, I am glad they didn't name him Damion, because IMO that's the worst of his game names.
And, BTW, in Spanish, Barry's name should be Israel, according to Spanish games. Maybe we should be glad for Barry :XD: The question though is, if Barry really was called this name in Spanish dub of anime. Is there anyone from Spain who can confirm this?
 
If you hate his name so much give him a custom name or pick another, there are far more name options. I for one hate a lot of these preset names but sometimes I just could care less.
 
It's stupid Bulbapedia that calls him "Pearl".

His defaultest name is Jun/Barry, even in the games.

Speaking of him, he's gonna appear in Naty & Natio episode. Newtype confirms.
 
Nope, Barry is a fine name... I expected him to be Jun like in the original but-meh- that's just a name...don't overreact.
