Hey, I have a question about the TCG, but it's quite open ended D:

Basically, I'm a huge nostalgia fag, and me and a friend recently decided to play a short battle with his old cards.
This quickly turned into hours, haha.

Anyway, my favourite card was always that Base Set Nidoking, so my question is this:

How should I build a deck around it? I really have no experience, so any help will be appreciated =/
All I know is that I want that "Do the Wave" Wigglytuff in it somewhere too :D

Sure! It wouldn't be competitive because A. Base Set Nidoking isn't legal and B. It's not a very good card, but I can give you a decent list. I'll try to keep it to the first few sets, as opposed to including cards from all eras.

4x Nidoking Base
3x Nidorina Base
4x Nidoran ♂ Base
2x Wigglytuff Jungle
2x Jigglypuff Jungle
----
15 Pokémon

4x Bill
4x Professor Oak
4x Item Finder
4x Computer Search
3x Pokémon Trader
3x Pokémon Breeder
2x Gust of Wind
3x Energy Removal
4x Scoop Up
----
31 Trainers

2x Double Colorless Energy
12x Grass Energy
----
14 Energy

It's a really, really simple deck. It should win games against other random decks, since it has a solid trainer engine.

Aww cheers :D
It's just a few friendly players, so it's not a worry that it's not legal, because we're only using base set cards :)

Thanks for baiting my nostalgia or a while, and for the effort you put in!

This card sure brings back memories when I collected cards as young. Still have it, in my small collection.

@ Matchbox:

It's not tournament legal because it's too old. Only certain cards are currently legal to be played in a tournament. You can find the list of tournament legal cards @ http://www.go-pokemon.com/op/tournaments/card-dex.html

It's likely that at the next rotation Diamond and Pearl base set, Mysterious Treasures, Great Encounters and Secret Wonders will no longer be tournament legal.

Some events still let you play with cards from any set, and if your only playing casually you can use what you like! ^^

Actually, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but POP announce a few weeks ago that there is no rotation this year. Meaning, all Diamond & Pearl cards-onward will again be legal for the 2009-2010 season. However, there will be a double rotation next year, and the format will likely be Platinum-onward.

Really, that's come as a bit of a surprise to me. Why do you think that is?

Well, I don't think POP has announced an official reason, but most people are speculating that it's because Claydol and Unown G would be lost, allowing Gengar and Dusknoir to run rampant.

Possibly. There must be some good counters out there though, surely! I haven't found a consistant one yet though... Cheers for the info on rotation anyway!

Wow, really? That's great news for me, because I just got into the TCG when Rising Rivals came out, so I'll get to use most of my cards instead of having a bunch of unusable ones :D
