According to this random blog at Newsarama, it would appear that Aaron Eckhart is set to play Harvey Dent (the eventual Two-Face) in the upcoming sequal to Batman Begins.

There's ALSO a rumor on that same blog that Maggie Gyllenhaal is set to take over the role of Rachael Dawes that was originally portrayed by Katie Holmes, which she has since vacated for...reasons (though there's talk of a scientology conspiracy).

Neither one overly impresses me, but...they could do worse.

Is Heath Ledger going to play Joker, or was that just a moronic rumor? I can't think of a worst casting idea since Burton wanted Cage as Superman.

Oh, no...that's solid fact. Not a hint of rumor. 100% Authentic. And, yes...it's horrid. Should have hired Boner from Growing Pains. He was a kickass Joker.

Who's Heath Ledger again?

And Two Face...he's probably the last Batman villain I think of when someone says "Batman".

Hunky cowboy from Brokeback Mountain and about as unJoker-like as you could get without dipping into the weird Gorrila/African American/Clown/Wrester hybrid from the Batman.

To be fair, we already had Jack Nicholson. Short of travelling back in time and casting him again, they were hardly going to get the perfect Joker anyway.

Also, Katie Holmes used to be hot. Stupid fucking scientology ruining everything.

Andrew Koenig = perfect Joker. Or at least as close as you're going to get.

Gorrila/African American/Clown/Wrester
Yeah...I still think that Joker sounds like some big, black man...when he's a small white dude.

Is Two Face going to actually be in the movie or are they just setting it up for a third?

IMO, using the Joker, the Penguin or Catwoman - or even Two Face and the Riddler (though to lesser degrees) is probably a pretty 'risky' thing to be doing. Especially since all were fantastically captured in the original movies, you can't help but feel they're simply going to go down the road of a tired remake - only without the perfect original stars. (Well, Tommy Lee Jones was great as Two Face but equally, I can easily see someone else filling the role - it's the other ones like the Joker or the Riddler who were perfectly cast in the first place that will 'cause the most problems, as far as I'm concerned).

Using Scarecrow in the first movie was great, what I'd rather they'd be doing really is taking someone like Mister Freeze or Poison Ivy and giving them a proper movie, as opposed to the awful showing they were originally subjected to.

No word on Two-Face being in it. That could, obviously, change.

And I'm thinking we'll see something like we did in the first one. Joker will be the focus, but Two-Face will have a background role (like Ra's Al Ghul) and probably BECOME Two-Face in the movie (they could easily set it up to have Joker be the cause of the disfigurement).

Personally, I'm still waiting for Killer Croc, as hokey as his appearance would probably be.

*looks up who Heath Ledger is*

Ooh, that guy. Yeah, he'll suck as Joker. They could have at least got somebody who barely suited the role. >>

I kind of agree with Doctor Oak, that they should bring back the villains like Poison Ivy, who got crap movies. Brining back the others would make it seem...well, crap. xD

Eckhart is actually only playing Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, but it's VERY likely that in the third movie (and Nolan said there would be a third) we see Two-Face.
Christopher Nolan has said that the theme of The Dark Knight will be 'Escalation', in reference to the comments by Gordon at the end of Batman Begins.
On the topic of Heath Ledger, they could have done worse. Like Robin Williams. But Nolan isn't going for funny Joker. He's going for sadistic, psychopathic Joker. Ledger said that among his chief inspirations for his performance would be 'A Clockwork Orange'. Which could be good or bad.
I'm very pleased that Bale, Oldman, and Caine are still onboard. Freeman has scheduling issues, but everyone fully expects him to reprise his role.

I completely disagree. Jack Nicholson was an okay Joker, but he hogged the spotlight, and was rather annoying. Couldn't comment on Penguin or Catwoman, but the Riddler and Two-Face were completely ruined.
And besides, the Nolan Batman series is inspired to a large degree by The Long Halloween and Batman: Year One.
In Batman Forever, Two-Face didn't really get much of a backstory. Here, we get a whole movie with Harvey Dent, working together with Gordon and Batman to clean up Gotham and apprehend the Joker. And in the third, he gets acid spilled on his face, and becomes Two-Face.

They're both rather campy villains in the first place, though I can see Freeze, if they make him a tragic figure, and not an absurd caricture. But Poison Ivy should NEVER be in a Nolan Batman film.
The Mad Hatter and Bane could be done convincingly within Nolan's vision.

Well, Joker will be the focus, but it's all Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, unless Nolan changed his mind. But Joker probably will cause the disfigurement.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Seriously, no.

Has been confirmed by Variety, a reliable trade magazine.

I didn't like him as Joker *at all*. He seemed to be just reading his lines and not really getting into the role. Especially the scene with the joy buzzer--nothing at all.

But then, I think Nicholson as an actor is horribly overrated. And getting the Oscar for As Good As It Gets? You've gotta be kidding me.

Of course, my question about Joker being in the movies is this--does that mean they'll have Harleen Quinzel at some point?
