I wonder why my Compaq laptop's battery is constantly at zero charge. And, that's when I have it charging on my charger for days at a time. I could use it, but I can't take the plug out.

Any suggestions what could be wrong or how I could fix it?

It's dead. You'll have to get a new one.

In the future, you can keep a battery charged by not using it when you have access to a wall outlet. Keeping it plugged in too much will hasten the depletion of the charge.

You have to wonder why they've not yet implemented something that cuts off power to the battery if it's charged while the computer's plugged in. I mean, the computer knows if it's plugged in and knows what level the battery's at...

I've had that issue with dell laptops, battery is dead. New one will be around 60-100 bucks. And take out the battery when you are using it as a desktop replacement like i am. (it should be on the bottom of the laptop like on mine.)

I recently found out that laptops, every time you plug them into the charger, no matter how long you keep it iplugged in it counts as a full charge which weakens the battery. Sucks I found that out to late now. V_V
