I know, the title is a bit corny and may be modified to fit the story. This is just a fic I decided to write. It may seem a bit graphic and the plot sort of boring, but it'll either pass or you'll get used to it. Read only if you choose to...

Battle of the Minis

Chapter 1 - The Essence of Destruction

"Quit your whining," Connor spat, as he and his little brother Josh trudged up the steep hill, which became level after a few more paces. "You said you wanted a stupid Vaporeon. Fine by me, but you're catching it on your own." The brown haired younger sibling sniffled, but his older brother kept on moving with that same bored look on his face. Suddenly, as they reached the top, the boy squirmed, and Connor walked a few more paces before noticing he was alone. He turned around, just at the mouth of a cave. There was a gaping hole shaped like a half-moon, thus the name Crescent Cave, just a few feet behind him.

"Connie! I have to go to the bathroom!" Josh was grunting and skipping around impatiently.

"Hold it. We'll get your little 'prize', then you-"

"Can't hold it!" He grumbled something in frustration before glaring at his brother Connor. "Seriously...come on."

"ARGH!" Connor stabbed one shoe into the dirt, releasing his anger. Then, he replied as calmly as possible, which wasn't too calm at all.
"Shut up, shut UP! I hate that mom said I had to bring you up here. You get everything as it is."

"Except bathroom breaks?" Josh snickered.

"Get over here," Connor demanded dismissively. "Let's find some bushes. You get on nerves I never knew I had."

"That's believeable, because you've got an endless pit full of'em." Josh allowed a wry smile as the two started off toward some bushes. Josh walked across the rocky ground that gave way to inch-long coarse grass and only two trees. After all, not much but two trees could grow on a hill like this, which led to a cave that shot at a steep angle underground once you entered. That cave came out to a beautiful meadow, and the tunnel stretched down a half mile and then forward several yards. The Hoenn region couldn't get any stranger than a sloping pathway to a meadow...could it?

Connor muttered something about "brats" and "water Pokemon" before he jogged to catch up with Josh, just as he found a cluster of shrubs. "You mind?' Josh asked, raising an eyebrow at Connor, who left to lean against a tree. Connor tapped his foot impatiently, as his brother let out a de-stressed sigh.

"Aaaah," he said, barely being heard over the loud splish-splashing noise in the background. Connor groaned, slapping a hand to his head as he heard the soft zip of his brother's jeans. He slid the hand down his face, sighing, as his brother walked over to meet up with him.

"So...how 'bout that Vaporeon?" Josh asked, smiling.

Connor fought to curve his lips into a face-cracking grin. "Yeah, let's go." The two were just about to turn and walk away, into Crescent Cave, when their was a strange noise. It was like the rustling of bees in a hive combined with chiming bells and shrill whistles. This may have been wierd, but the noise sounded fascinating.

"What's that?" Josh asked, frightened. "It sounds like music, but at the same time it doesn't."

"I don't know," Connor admitted, raising an eyebrow as a twinkling speck flashed in the sky above them. "I don't know Josh, but we really better find you your Vaporeon." He examined the sun, which was a fair distance past halfway in the sky. "It takes at least an hour to find your way out from the meadow. It's getting late as it is. We should hurry."

"Okay," Josh said, becoming excited. "We're finally gonna get a Vaporeon!"

"YOU are," Connor corrected, and turned to walk into the mouth of the cave. Soon, the jumble of noise was too distant to hear inside the cave. The first few yards were dimly lit, enough to make out some of the cave, due to a few rays of sunlight that stabbed into the cave opening and fanned out, covering the walls and floor. Connor continued to walk without waiting on Josh. The walls were littered with plates of mica. Josh was right on his brother's heels, and began snatching sheets of mica from the walls. He began tossing them everywhere, after at least a half hour of silence. It was obviously getting to him, as chatty as the boy was.

Tap, tap, the sheets of mica bounced off the walls and floors, clattering into each other. One of them cracked on the back of Connor's head, scrapping him and causing him to bleed. Even as the blood trickled, Josh kept tossing, and that set him off.

"Quit it!" He yelled, his echo traveling deep into the bowels of the cave. Josh froze.

"What?" Josh asked innocently. He dropped a couple sheets of mica by accident, and grinned sheepishly, gathering them up once more.

"Don't give me that," Connor said. He spun around to glare at his brother. "Put those down, we're here."

And indeed they were! The plain of lush grass and Evergreen Trees just beyond the tunnel exit was a breathtaking sight. How it appeared here was never understood, but the scenery was fabulous. Aipom frollicked lazily around the tree trunks, hitting each other with bannanas in their sleepy haze. There were a couple ponds just twenty yards away, and in one of these, a few Magikarg splashed around, oblivious to the noise around them. The second pond was undisturbed, sunlight shining through the trees and making it's prescene known as it slithered across the surface of it soundlessly.

Flocks of Swellow soared overhead, surveying the area. The high stone walls encasing the vast meadow were being scaled by a group of Mankey, who suddenly became quiet. Graveler lodged in the walls nearby wondered what all the commotion was about, and stared intently.

The many other Pokemon here in the meadow suddenly stopped where they were and turned to stare. Humans were here. Josh whispered nervously, "Are they mad?"

"How the heck should I know?" his brother said with a shrug. With that, Connor boldly strode out into the meadow, maki. Josh took a few tentative steps in the direction of the meadow, and then stopped. He tapped his left shoe on a small patch of dirt, and then looked up at Connor.

"You sure it's safe?"

"Don't be a baby," Connor teased. All the Pokemon around him studied him for a few more seconds before returning to their everyday tasks. The place was soon full of chirps and growls as all the Pokemon busied themselves with activities. Connor gave Josh a thumbs up sign, and motioned for him to follow. "Everything's fine little brother."

"Don't call me a baby," Josh spat, walking past Connor and toward on of the ponds. The gaze of three Corphish darted towards him for an instant, but they simply continued talking about whatever it was they were doing at the moment. Josh smiled into the pond at his reflection, searching into the pond.

"Hey," Connor called out. "What are you doing?"

"Looking for Vaporean, duh," Josh replied calmly. He ignored Connor now, scanning the still surface of the pond.

"Careful," Connor cautioned. "Don't get that close."

Josh stepped back, grunting. "Happy now?"

Before an answer could come, a magnificent being erupted from the pond, sliding across the grass and stopping five feet from Josh. He squealed. Its aqua blue scales were fantastic, especially with the sunlight shining down on it's wondorous body, a shadow only noticable near the rim of its dark blue mane. The mane sliced through the light like a saw, reflecting the beams off of Vaporean and spreading them left and right. The streamlined figure was almost too much to bear; just what Josh wanted to catch.

"Vaporeon!" He exclaimed, as it examined him curiously. He reached out, and it backed away. "I won't bite," he assured it, nodding for it to approach him.

Watching this from a ten yard distance, Connor began to think. This place was so mystical. Vaporeon lived here peacefully by the dozens, yet no stones were present to alter the genetic makeup of their pre-evolved form. Speaking of Eevee, there were none for as far as he could see! Yet another question came to him: "Why is the light here so bright when it's nearly nighttime?"

His answer came so fast, it literally knocked him senseless. Vaporeon felt the tremor earlier than the two boys, and was in the water before they realized what was going on. Connor yelped, and he was thrown backwards, hitting the soft grass just beside a terrified Weedle.

"Hey little guy," he whispered, sitting up. The weedle fell against him, and he allowed it to. He stayed away from the poisonous areas though. It had fainted right into his lap. A mere tremble had knocked it unconcious.

Josh shielded his eyes, as a purple crystaline structure popped out of the water, scaring the flopping Magikarp. In the sky above was, unless he was crazy, a Mew. It's bright pink tail and slim build were unmistakable. It's eyes were glowing uncontrollably, giving the illusion of daylight. It must have lived here, Connor figured as he watched, providing light for all the Pokemon. Now though, it decided to show itself, just as the purple cocoon object floated up from the water, shining bright, and began to vibrate. Vaporeon came up from the water, pawing the air as if to grab for the cocoon. The strange item fell to the grass, and Vaporeon nudged it, wrapping it's slippery tail around it for...protection?

"What is going on?" Josh wondered, stepping over to Vaporeon. It shook its head, purring in protest. Josh ceased walking, coaxing the wonderful water Pokemon. "It's okay...I'll be your friend."

Suddenly, the transparent stone-like cocoon gave off the sound of a faint stream of musical cries. "Get back," Connor warned. He had no clue what was happening, but it sure was freaky. He didn't want a family member, annoying or not, to get involved.

Josh gasped, as the stone began to crack. The thick rip worked it's way across the middle, and the two now seperated parts began to fade. The Mew above shrieked angrily, flying down toward the three. Josh looked up, and ducked as the small legendary Pokemon soared over his head, barely missing him. He realized he stood in juxtaposition with Vaporeon. Whatever the Mew was after, it had to do with that cocoon.

"Oh man," Josh said, realizing he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Mew flipped upside down, then angled a controlled dive back towards the group. Josh dove away, and Vaporeon was struck in the head with a mean tackle, from a Pokemon as gentle as Mew? The egg-like cocoon fell (Both parts) into the water with a loud splash. Mew dove down inside the water with Vaporeon after it. The whole meadow was now hushed, as everyone waited.

At first it was too low to notice, but soon the noise reached beyond the small pond, and was heard by all. A series of pounding noises, obviously collisions, was so loud it reached the ears of everyone above! The water began to bubble furiously. Whatever kind of battle the two were having down there, it wasn't pretty.

"Man, they sure are going at it," Connor whispered, when there was another violent shake. This one could only have come from the powers of Mew however. It was too forceful. Connor rolled sideways a few feet since his body wasn't prepared to be hit from below with another tremor, and Weedle was now alone. He yelled as he tipped over the edge of the grassy ground and was deposited into the pond with the Magikarp. They all flailed about, alarmed that this was happening. Connor floated down slowly, trying to control his swimming, to the bottom of the ocean. There was a steady flow of blood from the back of his head, which had progressed since he'd been inside the cave, and the Magikarp all hopped out of the water to avoid sucking in his personal fluids. The water was fogged up with crimson red now, and all Josh could do was watch.

This was a terrifying experience for him. He was now slumped against a tree, where he had fallen after the second tremor, and barely hanging on. There was a swarm of red, and then he knew. Josh looked down, and saw that a Swellow had plummeted down in front of him. It was leaking blood, just enough for a serious injury. Before Josh could do anything, the darkness took him. The blanket of black tranquility smothered him, and the boy quickly drifted down to the ground, his head clunking down beside the bird. With the image of a damaged Pokemon before him, Josh was forced to faint.
