I'd wager that Bayonetta is a recognizable enough title to deserve it's own page, so why post a Bayo 2 thread? This is the place to discuss the upcoming Platinum Games... well, game, starring the titular trigger happy Umbra Witch as she rushes to find a way down to Inferno, to save Jeanne, who had her soul knocked out by a rouge Gomorrah. Among the way, the Infernal Demons she once called allies turn on her, so she has to face the forces of Paradiso and Inferno, whilst running into the last Lumen Sage, who wishes to destroy Bayonetta and rid the world of Umbra Witches once and for all.

Title: Bayonetta 2 (+1)/ベヨネッタ 2 (Beyonetta Tsū)

250px-Bayonetta2boxart.png

Developer: Platinum Games

Publisher: Nintendo

Platform(s): Wii U

Genre: Action, Hack and Slash

Rating:M (17+)/PEGI 18

Release Date: October 2014 (North America/Europe)/September 20 2014 (Japan)

Story (So Far): (Just a reminder! The tags do contain spoilers for Bayonetta and its anime adaption, Bloody Fate. You've been warned!)

Following on from the previous game, Bayonetta, along with her former rival Jeanne, fight against various angels that appear across the land as part of their pact to Inferno, fighting in a modern city, riding on jets. After her jet is destroyed, Bayonetta jumps onto a bullet train, with the angel Belief appearing. Jeanne jumps off her jet and helps her friend, beating the angel around before Bayonetta summons Gomorrah to finish it off. After eating the angel, Gomorrah's portal fails to close, and the demonic dragon, the 'Devourer of the Divine' attempts an attack on his summoner, with Jeanne knocking Bayonetta out of the way, resulting in her soul being knocked out of her body and having it dragged to inferno. Bayonetta's search to rescue Jeanne's soul leads her to the sacred mountain of Fimbulventer that is said to link both Inferno and Paradiso together. An entrance to Inferno, the Gates of Hell, is said to be inside the mountain and Bayonetta plans to use it to save her friend. In her travels, she meets Loki, a mysterious youth who angels seem to prioritize over Bayonetta, with the angel Valiance claiming he has a power called 'The Remembrance of Time', with the same angel starting to ramble about the Eyes of the World before Bayonetta shoots his face and a battle commences. After kicking his now dead body through a church building and causing some rubble to fall on Loki, who escaped angels from earlier, leading him to try and strike a deal with Bayonetta: he's heading to the mountain anyway, and Bayonetta will need his power to open the gates. After eventually letting him free, they some how end up separated, and a masked man attacks Loki before Bayonetta saves him. The Umbra Witch realizes her masked opponent is a Lumen Sage, and a battle erupts, which leads to a fight between the two, as well as their various angelic and demonic summons. Some time after, Bayonetta and Loki open the gates and get to Inferno, seemingly on some sort of time limit to rescue Jeanne. Multiple weaker demons attack the duo, and Bayonetta encounters some larger boss demons, including a summon from the first game, Phantasmaranae, who also attack the group. In the E3 2014 trailer, a cloaked figure wearing lipstick and purple clothes with red moon adornments appears... Could this be another Umbra Witch? But why doesn't she appear ethereal in Inferno, as Jeanne did at the end of the Did You Miss Me Trailer?

Characters:

Bayonetta

250px-Cereza_Bayonetta_2_render.png

The titular Umbra Witch, like the other returning characters, has got a redesign, though Bayonetta's, Jeanne's and Luka's are the most drastic. Not much about Bayonetta has been changed. She remains her cheeky, teasing yet somewhat funny and sadistic personality, as well as several techniques and Infernal Demons. Most interesting is that she seems to have grown in power. She can tap into Umbran Climax, which works like serious mode and/or Climax Brace in the first game, by having a full magic gauge. Whilst it looks like it'll be used often early in the game, as you get more and more techniques, you'll be spending magic quicker, and the enemies will start going for quality over quantity if it's anything like the first. It also has torture attacks to compete with for the full magic unleash thing. This mode powers her up, makes most attacks Wicked Weaves, with combos ending with Infernal Weaves, summoning a large part of the demon to deal large damage, and it isn't just leaved for Madama Butterfly, either. Speaking of her, she, Gomorrah, Malphas and Madama Styx are all confirmed to be back, however Madama Styx is only seen in Jeanne's Wicked Weaves so far, and Gomorrah seems to become replaced/unusable after he knocks Jeanne's soul out of her body and Bayonetta seemingly kills him. However, seeing as Balder killed him in the first game and he's back...So far, Gomorrah and Phantasmaranae seem to have forgotten all the tasty angel snacks she has given them, with Madama Butterfly and Malphas seeming to be staying loyal. She also has new Infernal Demons, such as a three headed sabre-tooth tiger, who is also winged, a bull-frog like demon, a chimera like demon, and an armored horse-like demon. She refers to Loki as 'little one' as she did to Cereza in the first game, and seems intrigued by how angels and a Lumen Sage are after him. Even in Inferno she stays calm and eager to save Jeanne, giving Madama Butterfly a brofist before shit hits the fan in Inferno. She retains the Panther, Crow and Moth Within abilities from Bayonetta 1, and seems to retain them from the get go, but has obtained a new 'Snake Within', which seems to work as an aquatic variation of Panther Within. The witch is armed with many new items, like Love is Blue, her new pistols, to Kafka, demonic bow and arrows, to Undine, cannon-like weapons which can be attached to both legs and arms, and can switch between ice and fire variations, seemingly this game's 'version' of Durga. This isn't even scraping the surface, with whip boots, dual rapiers that can be equipped to both hands and heels, as well as a three-bladed scythe that can shift into a rifle for its Charge Modifier!

Jeanne

250px-Jeanne_Bayonetta_2_render.png

Bayonetta's formal rival and childhood friend, Jeanne returns! She's been redesigned with a red biker suit, referencing her favorite way of transportation. Free of Balder's brainwashing, she now fights side by side with Bayonetta as they fulfill their contracts with Madama Butterfly and Madama Styx, and possibly other demons. However, when Gomorrah's portal fails to close and he frees from his conduit (Bayonetta's hair, in this case), he tries to attack his summoner, Jeanne tackles her friend out of the way, leaving her soul knocked out her body and dragged to Inferno. Jeanne's also had a redesign, with long hair. Interestingly enough, whilst Bayonetta has replaced Scarborough Fair with Love is Blue, Jeanne has kept All 4 One, yet replaced its feathers with kitty cat plushies, possibly referring to how she's more serious and patient, whilst Bayonetta seems to take fun in what she does and acts on impulse. It's unknown if she can fully summon Madama Styx now like Bayonetta can summon Madama Butterfly, or if she can access Umbran Climax, but it does seem likely, as Bayonetta and Jeanne are near equals in power. Interestingly enough, many speculate that Madama Styx will be a boss battle, as Jeanne's soul seems to belong to her. Seems likely with both that and the Infernal Demons rebelling against the Umbra Witches. Jeanne's been confirmed as a playable character on the two player online 'Tag Climax', perhaps hinting at her being playable in the main game, even if just a altered skin-change for Bayonetta.

Rodin

tumblr_n1ar3ij0Wb1rdwopio1_250.gif

Rodin seems to have had a smaller redesign, but it's still fairly cool. Since only clips have been see of him, we can't really say much, but he seems a bit too happy with the thing he's holding. Perhaps a spear, judging by what looks like a handle and point. Maybe a new weapon for Bayonetta? What role will he play in the new story? I mean he seems to be the only character who's been to Inferno before, and it was tough for him to handle... Poor Bayonetta... It's likely he'll continue his role in the first game as the shop keeper/bartender and Bayonetta's source of weaponry. Rodin believes that Bayonetta would have to start making miracles to rescue Jeanne, and due to the prevalence he has in trailers, he seems to have a bigger role in the game.

Luka

tumblr_n1ar3ij0Wb1rdwopio2_250.gif

Whilst we know the least about Luka than the other characters, he's had the biggest update out of all the boys. His scarf is now in his jacket rather than out, and he has a cowboy hat. In Bloody Fate, his father has a similar one. That's sweet, trying to imitate his father XD The attention to detail is pretty cool. He mentions the 'Overseer', the creator of the Eyes of the World, and the physical world (presumably after Jubileus split the first time and the universe became a new) and the 'god of chaos', like Jubileus and Sheba are attributed to light and dark. It's likely his role won't be as big as the first game due to at least a good amount of the chapters taking place in Inferno, but he was missing from Paradiso chapters in Bayonetta and still managed to make a good amount of appearances.

Enzo

File:Enzo_Bayonetta_2.png

Bayonetta's informant returns, and it seems like he's performing a similar role to the first game, but a bit more active. He flies Bayonetta out to near Fimbulventer, as well as inform her about it. It's likely he won't play a role as big as the other four returning characters above.

Masked Lumen

250px-Masked_Lumen_Sage_Bayonetta_2_render.png

Just as Bayonetta thought she killed Balder, the 'last Lumen Sage', another pops up! With Jeanne technically dead, he's hunting down Bayonetta to rid the world of the Umbra. He seems able to summon the Cardinal Virtues/Audito (so far being shown to summon Fortitudo and Temperentia) in the same way as Bayonetta summons demons, but using feathers as conduits rather than hair. He can also seem to use a variation of Wicked Weaves with Fortitudo's dragon heads, and use the Lumen Sage's equivalent of the Umbra's Witch Time: Light Speed, where they speed themselves up it seems the world is super slow, where as Witch Time does actually do that. There's many theories about him. Maybe it's Balder!? Maybe it's Luka!? Maybe Bayonetta's twin brother!? After all, she is the child of Balder (A sage) and Rosa (A witch). I'd like to see him without the mask, it always makes me curious when I see stuff like this. He uses a double bladed-staff like weapon, which he can split up and use like swords. He can also summon fireballs and at one point, unleashes a golden shock wave at one point. Lumen Climax? Due to his voice, he does seem like a man, as does the fact that the Lumen and Umbra seem to be male and female exclusive, but you never know. He may just be a she! He seems to function like Jeanne in Bayonetta 1, a recurring foe with similar powers, such as the ability to turn into a magnificent white wolf! Since Bayonetta's and Jeanne's Panther/Lynx Within powers had an Okami reference, I can't wait to see if they do it with this one, especially as the Lumen have an affinity with the sun and fire! For some reason, he's also interested in Loki, and was attacking the poor boy before Bayonetta shows up and rescues him, resulting in a ground battle that leads to the air. Perhaps he's similar to Valiance, and wants the boy for this 'Remembrance of Time' power? Is he in league with Valiance and the other angels?

Loki

250px-Mysterious_Boy_Bayonetta_2_render.png

A young deadpan snarker who Bayonetta meets in Purgatorio, near Fimbulventer. Loki seems to be unaware of Purgatorio and/or why he's in it. Oddly, he seems associated with blue as the sages are with yellow/gold and the witches with red (and in mostly Bayonetta, purple), perhaps a third clan who looked over Chaos, as the Umbra and Lumen looked over darkness and light? He claims Bayonetta will need his powers to enter Fimbulventer, and has been shown to be playable on at least one occasion. He possesses a lot of agility which he uses to dodge angel's attacks, before throwing his cards at them to finish them off. However, this is not enough to out fox the Masked Lumen, who attacked Loki before Bayonetta intevered, the child and witch thinking each other were allied with this odd character. Bayonetta refers to Loki as 'little one', which is what she refers Cereza to. However, Cereza seemed to be about four or six (possibly much, much older, as Jeanne and Bayonetta are over 500 years old yet look only about in their mid twenties), whilst Loki seems to be in his tweens, or due to his snarkiness and his insistence he's not a child, a young teenager. Just what is this 'Remembrance of Time' power he possess? It seems, due to a scene where Bayonetta has to collect pieces of a grave to restore the Witch Grave which has to do with the 'Remembrance of Time' in a time limit, it seems to restore things to its original state. He seems to use cards as his main weapon... He's a very mysterious character, and it seems likely he'll play a huge part in the plot. Angels are attacking him and ignoring the women who slayed GOD to get to him... Why is he so important?

Last of all, have fun with speculating!

NOTE #1: All characters from the first game who make an appearance retain their voice actors, don't worry! :D The Japanese voices are being done by the same VA team who done Bayonetta: Bloody Fate.

NOTE #2: It appears that the only opponents returning from the original game are rogue Infernal Demons, and the four Audito. Affinities have been replaced by the blue centaur angels, Applaud by a larger red variation of the centaur, Beloved by Belief or Urbane (which has fire and ice variations), and Dear and Decorations by Cachet and Compassion.

NOTE #3: The game is coming with a HD port of Bayonetta with three Nintendo based outfits (Princess Peach of Mario fame, Link, the Hero of Hyrule in the Legend of Zelda series, and Samus Aran's Varia Suit from the Metroid series.), and will likely have Japanese VAs in the Japanese release. It's not included with the digital release, probably getting its own.

Played the first game on the PS3. Can't say I care for the setting, but the combat (if a little bloody) is quite engaging. Definitely lives up to the ol' Devil May Cry pedigree (another game where I can't really care much for the setting but the gameplay was fun - I beat DMC1 all the way up through Dante Must Die difficulty.)

Anyway, I've seen the Bayonetta 2 trailer -- it looks like during the boss battle against the Lumen Sage he summons an angel while Bayonetta summons a demon and while Bayonetta and Sage fight each other in the foreground their respective summons have at it in the background, apparently in sync. If so, I can't begin to say just how awesome that is.

Hideki Kamiya directed both, so that's why they're similar. Though Bayonetta 2 seems to be trying to put in that extra bit of setting, which is cool.

Yeah, that looked unbelievably cool. Though it seems that the two different demon battles occur in the same Bayonetta vs Sage fight.

I'm interested in how Gomorrah, Fortitudo and Temperentia are all seen in this new game although all three were killed by Balder, Bayonetta and Bayonetta again respectively.

I can't believe I haven't posted in here yet. >.>;

Anyway...This game is the very reason I want a Wii U, no other titles have compelled me me enough to buy the system yet (the selection of games for the Wii U atm don't suit my tastes honestly) aside from Bayonetta 2. The story for the first game felt a bit flat in comparison to the bosses and fights, but that honestly in no way killed the game for me. In fact I've played through the first game 3 times. xD

Though really I'm eager to find out why Gomorrah and the other infernal demons went rogue, it was fun summoning them all in the first game to deliver the final blows. So it makes me wonder how Bayonetta is going to handle the bosses now. Cause they're pretty damn big.

The reason I even picked up the first game was a weird one ... I heard that Bayonetta's "Beast Within" transformation had some allusions to Okami. It's almost a shame that it's only used for bursts of super-speed and you can't actually attack with it.

Hmm I don't see similarities myself, but I do agree it's a shame her beast within isn't used all that much. Maybe it's something that will be changed? Though I honestly can see it being scrapped entirely as well.

Yeah, the similarities are indeed fairly subtle. Mostly leaving a trail of ghostly flower-like things in her wake as she sprints around.

Just an FYI, Nintendo is still pushing a "2014" release for the United States (I'm assuming Canada, as well) and Europe. Still a projected Summer 2014 release for Japan.

If Nintendo is smart, they will push to get this game out significantly before Smash Wii U. Probably Bayonetta 2 some time in September, followed by Hyrule Warriors, and then Monolith Soft's X some time later in the fall. And since Sega & Nintendo are currently on good terms, they really should allow Wii U owners to purchase Bayonetta on the eShop, probably as a download-only title, or maybe even make a deluxe Bayo/Bayo 2 combo pack similar to what they did for New Super Mario Bros. U/New Super Luigi U when they bundled it with the Wii U. (I don't necessarily think there should be a Bayonetta bundle... but I guess that would be a nice bundle of choice for people who want a Wii U just for Bayonetta?)

I know like nothing about this series haha, but with the amount of press Bayonetta 2 has been receiving since it was announced, it's definitely on my watch list, at least. The trailers looked especially great when I saw them, so my interest has been piqued. My biggest concern is that I will have needed to play Bayonetta in order to really enjoy Bayonetta 2, so I'm gonna wait and see if that's actually the case or not before purchasing.

Bayonetta's storyline is complex, and if Bayonetta 1 doesn't come to Wii U I'd watch a walkthrough/lp or research it on the wikia Bayonetta wiki, which I vouch for being accurate.

I hope some info is dropped at this month's Nintendo Direct(s).

They really should, especially considering the first game wasn't even on a nintendo platform. And since they're making it Wii U exclusive I agree with you completely. Especially considering they're marketing it out to a new audience in some aspects (there are people who only buy nintendo merchandise, and vice versa). So I don't think it would be a bad move at all really since this is the second game, and without playing the first game there's probably not that many people who'd buy the series. (Though I could be wrong. :T)

It does make one wonder on how the story in this game will proceed, because the first game has some valuable story points to it. Like the whole Lumen Sages, and Umbra Witches and who they are.

We need more info. </3

Bayonetta 2.
October 2014.
Wii U.
(Bayonetta included!)

But what does it mean that Bayonetta is included? Will it be a straight port, or an updated port? Will it be included for free, or will the game cost a little more because it's essentially two games in one?

Still, nice that the original game will be available on the Wii U. Now I'm even more interested in the game!

EDIT: THE DIGITAL VERSION OF THE GAME WILL NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL BAYONETTA I REPEAT.

The question is... why?! (Second edit: This could mean that the Bayonetta port will be a separate listing in the Wii U eShop--so basically, it seems like Bayonetta won't be a free inclusion for the retail version.)

Speaking of, the official website is now live (scroll to the bottom for the no-digital confirmation).

The first game included as a pack-in? That's kinda cool, actually, considering that you kinda need to play the first to know what the story's about and all.

I also find it entertaining to see Bayonetta toting Link and Samus outfits.

I regret buying my vita, and at the same time I don't ugh. I need more money. </3

But I'm liking the outfits, makes me wonder if there will be any subtle changes in the first game because of the outfits. I know there's the rupees, that jingle from Zelda, Mario coins, and Bowser's foot but I wonder if there's more to it. Makes me want to replay Bayonetta 1 before playing 2. But first a Wii U!

And I'm liking the main theme for Bayonetta 2. I adored the OST for the first game, especially boss themes so if this is what we have so far I'm happy. This might be grasping at straws, but it vaguely reminds me of Fly Me To The Moon with the whistling sounds in the background.

I'm just going to bet certain sound effects are going to be changed, the coins are going to be replaced by something from each series, and the outfits will cause Bayonetta to Wicked Weave Bowser, Ganon and Ridley. I'd love it if the Peach outfit replaces Gomorrah with Bowser, Link replaces Phantasmaranae with Ganon (babies are now Octoroks or something) and the Varia Suit replaces Malphas with Ridley.

Also, OP away to be updated!~

I didn't see much in Bayonetta before Jordan here kept on going on about it, so I might consider buying it if it looks good when he's playing it and I'm there.
