Yesterday I watched Movie 9, and those two little DP hints got me thinking.

What was it like when Diamond and Pearl hadn't been released?

No Dawn(is that a good thing?), It would be so boring. Generation 4 made Pokémon much better!(Game Wise)

I probably wouldn't be a fan of Pokemon anymore since Ruby and Sapphire did bore me. Diamond and Pearl resurged my love of Pokemon and reminded me of why I like the series.

I was still playing the games and watching the anime.

What do you think most of us were doing?

Basically, I mean when the speculation was going on. Everyone hanging on to every CoroCoro issue, critiquing the new Pokémon and Gym Leaders/E4.

And don't forget Munchlax's and Weavile's appearances in the old movies. How did everyone react to those things?

The speculation? Mars was the first Galactic revealed and so everyone assumed that she was the leader. People went apeshit about how awesome it was to have a female leader and then when it came out that she was an officer, they were all "...oh. ...I guess she's still cool...I guess..."

Also people thought Cynthia was going to be a gothic lolita because all we'd seen was her sprite.

Oh, you mean that? As someone who was here at the time, we thought Munchlax was going to be the main mascot of DP. Little did we know at the time Munchlax would be replaced by Piplup.

As for the anime, it was originally speculated May was going to continue doing Contests in DP, but of course that changed when Dawn was revealed on the DP adverts for the first time.

Some people thought Ash's story would end with Battle Frontier too, boy were we wrong.

Huh... Mars as leader..

And Cynthia XD

Wow... the speculation sure was far off the mark back then... XD

And what about Lucario itself? I think alot of people thought it was a legendary back then. Some still do.

Well yeah, everyone thought Lucario was a legendary thanks to Movie 8. I remember when Riolu was shown, people were like, "Since when does a legendary have a pre-evo?" Haha.

But really, the new Pokemon shown got the same reaction as any other gen. Like how we saw Elekid in Movie 2, Marill and Donphan in Movie 1, or Latios/Latias in Movie 5.

I thought he was. I thought he would be the main legend of Platunum...

I blame the DP anime intro...

Well, I was never around to witness those times. I came around to the games themselves when DP was about to be released.

I thought he was. I thought he would be the main legend of Platinum...

Huh...

If you weren't around back then, just look at what we are now waiting for the first Gen 5 info.

We're awaiting the first Gen 5 Poke, and when we finally see it, it'll be like how we first saw Munchlax as the first DP Pokemon.

The speculation of future gens has never been all that different.

Off time from pokemon, barely playing Gen3 games. I had hit the phase of "I'm too old for pokemon", plus in general Hoenn just never clicked with me and I didn't even care until FRLG.

I was still trying to beat the Hoenn BF. It's a lot harder than the PtHGSS one... of course that was before the type split and I didn't EV train...

The first glimpse of Generation 4 in terms of anime that I saw was this poster that showed Ash, Dawn, and Paul with the three starters. It at first made me believe that Brock wouldn't return for the new anime series...

As for the games... the previews reinvigorated my love of pokemon, with much more interesting designs and new evolutions with a feeling that harkened back to generation 2 instead of the rather uninteresting pokemon and storyline of Ruby and Sapphire. However back with G3, Emerald made the storyline of R/S much more interesting, but not nearly as interesting as Platinum made D/P, Yellow made R/B, or Crystal made G/S.

I remember just playing my Emerald game, and didn't even know about D/P 'til my sister brought home Pearl. The Gen IV Pokemon looked so bizzare to me, but I knew I wanted some as I watched my sister play her game.
