Before the BW cast was revealed, would you have wanted Hilda as the next main girl?

Before we knew about Iris (or Cilan), many assumed the writers would just make the next playable female as the next main character in the anime.

When her character design was shown for the first time, it was very positive:

However BW started, Iris and Cilan were confirmed, and Hilda is nowhere to be seen. At this point she might just get a cameo in the movies like Brendan/Lucas and never truly appear otherwise.


Would you have wanted Hilda on the main cast, take her over Iris, or not really care either way?

Actually no. It wasn't so much a thought as it was wild speculation - but I was thinking/hoping she'd be one of Ash's main rivals this time around, and Hilbert would become the new male sidekick.

So who did you suspect would be the new main female? Granted when we saw Iris for the first time it was obvious, but prior to that we really had no reason to suspect anything out of the usual....making the next female lead from the games the next main girl of the anime.

I wanted no more white-Japanese protagonists/wanted a totally original female character, so I got 3/5 of what I wanted. Yay to Iris for breaking the racial barrier! Hilda would have been a off-Brodway Musical writer/actor/director/producer/Peter Griffin in The King is Dead/Judy Funnie oddball type who never shut's up about their work.

But I remembered a lot of people were upset that she wasn't gonna be used, lol. I think it worked out the best this way. The protagonist would have seemed a bit too old to be traveling with Ash...two seniors would be a bit much on the team, and quite frankly, I would NOT want to find a replacement for Dento.

Well, I would not be sure if Ash travelling with an older girl will be a good idea, because from the way she looks, she look like she will want to be in a relationship with Ash, and will probably be frustrated to know that Ash can't handle it because he's chaste. However, I think that she will be more well-received to fans even from the beginning unlike Iris, who had a terrible early track record to the fan's eyes.

I would find it funny if there will be one day where Ash travels in the long term with two girls instead of one. Now that would be new because we never seen it happen before.

Well at that point there wasn't much indication that Black/White or even the next anime series would be as disjointed as they were from previous generations, and I thought Dawn might stick around because of her and Piplup's statuses as co-star and mascot, something that Misty and May didn't really have going into Generations III and IV respectively. Once contests were gone then I knew she'd be gone too.

In the same vein, Paul and Barry were first major recurring rivals Ash has had since Gary, and it was precedent-setting at the time for them to be removed from the series completely, as Gary still appeared on occasion in his Chronicles special, the and of AG and DP.

She is the perfect girl character ! I think it's stupid that they got Iris( she is a nice character but she will never be as good as Misty was!) she doesn't have real role in the anime! She doesn't has the experience Misty had and she is walking around training her Kibago come on!

I would love Bel to be the main female character she is really funny and a keeper! The fact that they haven't used Hilda just means that they were tired of drawing contests and that's it! I+m little disappointed that the writers didn't have a new idea to bring it up and make some new interesting thing!!

I thought it would be her but now I can't imagine anyone replacing Iris's place. She just belongs there along with Dento.

And yes, I too see her appearing as one of Ash's rival. *fingers crossed*

I wouldn't have cared either way really. Best Wishes is focused on Satoshi, and so Hilda would have been a sidekick just like Iris. The character design alone isn't a selling point to me, while their story is.

Either way though, I seek enjoyment from Dent as the "funny sidekick". The other one could be whoever, really.

Best female design IMO and my favourite. But NO. I don't want the anime to ruin her by taking her the route Dawn and May went. Which is part of the reason why I'm happy Leaf never made it into the anime. There's a lot of material to go around to give characters awesome distinct personalities and quirks, Special proved this. But the anime pretty much just does rinse and repeat. Instead of her being awesome and kickbutt she'd most likely be all girly prissy like Dawn. >_>

To assume that the next player female would join Ash would've been a reasonable guess back then. Other than that, I don't see what's so great about her other than the implication of a possible stronger female character. Iris and Cilan have filled their roles in quite nicely, and it was probably better to use them, as the whole age issue would've been hard to deal with, unless with it, we got to have Ash be older than he was at the beginning. As things are, though, we are not losing anything and the cast is fine as it is.

I probably choose Touko, but it's depends on her characterization and screentime/focus she will get.

I wouldn't have cared either way really. Best Wishes is focused on Satoshi, and so Hilda would have been a sidekick just like Iris.

She's a PC, they wouldn't make her a sidekick like Kasumi and Iris. That's why we have Iris as our main heroine.

I didn't care who the main female would've been, as long as it wasn't another coordinator. But I'm kind of glad they chose Iris over Hilda. Iris' design is less generic-looking than Hilda's, IMO. It's probably just because of her huge hair though.

I would have liked Touko as a main girl before we heard about Iris, but now I'm happy that we don't have such a popular icon character as a main girl. Touko's design is also too boring for a main girl character, in my opinion. By that I mean that her design is nice and all, but it doesn't really differ that much from the previous girls. At least Iris has a personal look that isn't so mainstream.

I wasn't really dissapointed by the fact that the character herself wouldn't be in the show, but rather that it seemed like a bit of a cop-out they'd skip over her to avoid having an older character in the group.

I got over it fairly quickly though, and am glad we got Iris instead. No matter what you may think of her, as a main character her design and jungle-girl mannerisms and abilities are really unique for the show, whereas Hilda looks like she would be, and essentially is, 'just another pokemon trainer'.

Well Iris is similar to Misty in some ways, whereas Hilda comes across as, "Dawn with shorts instead of a skirt."

Not really,since Brock got replaced it was pretty much a given that someone will take up role of older caretaker and cook for group which was given to Cilan and having another older character in main cast would make Ash look out of space causing unbalanced group with possibly screwed up dynamic.

Since Ash is main star of this show its needed to have someone of his age in group to who he could find common language being easier to relate to it.,
Beside i always preferred sidekicks in this show because they are more prone to imperfections and in justcant picture HIlda as another coordinator.

She is fitting to be more of trainer and while she could have been given different goal being connected with pokmon battling not doing gyms like Ash does main problem i find with her is being too old to join main cast.Having two older characters traveling with 10 year old wouldnt work out very well to be honest.

Personally if i were to introduce someone else instead of Iris it wouldnt be 5th gen heroine but Misty who definitely has potential and room to be developed more having great personality.
But since we cant have that(can we)im satisfied with Iris too being good character having her qualities liking her tendency to be wild and invasive at times as well her background story and pokemon with Excadrill earning my attention.

Her goal of evolving Axew in Haxorous and becoming good as Drayden seem as nice try from writers too being nice to see how that will play out as Unova gos on.

We dont know what kind of personality Hilda would have.

At first I was really disappointed that Hilda wasn't going to be a part of the main cast, but I got over it the minute I saw Iris in the show. I still love Hilda's design and would love for her to show up sometime, but I'm glad that Iris got the role of the female character this saga.
