The Show Itself

"Live from the Fireside" is a multi-hour long extravaganza crammed with cartoons, songs, games, sketches (and occasionally a longer play), and of course, Brock's weekly tale. Morgan serves as the announcer for the show, as well as the maintainer of the Pokebook page and Flitter feeds. (someone else handles the show's Web site) What happens on the show is always a surprise, so no two shows are quite the same.

The show does have a few traditions, however--the show always begins with a set of tunes from the house band, the Firelights. Brock's tale usually closes the first half of the show, or kicks off the second half, although sometimes his performance comes on the heels of the Firelights' first set, at the very end of the show, or any time in between.

The show has a devoted following all across the world with thousands showing up to see the show live, and millions more tuning in on TV and online.

Brock's Known Characters

Here is just a sampling of the most well known characters Brock will use for a sketch, a play, or on some occasions, just because:

--Señor Alegria

The most well known of Brock's characters, this fun loving mariachi singer loves a good yarn almost as much as a good song. In case you were wondering, Brock only claims that Paradaisu is "the only song I know" when he feels Señor Alegria is wearing out his welcome

--Sage Yamoto

One of the few characters that doesn't have Brock bouncing off the walls, Sage Yamoto has a calm and peaceful demeanor that belies his wisdom, even when craziness swirls around him. (fans of the show enjoy guessing how long it will take for Brock to crack a smile or laugh while portraying this character)

--Flynn Devine

Brock's minstrel character, whose way with words lends a magical air to the tales he tells. The character was created not long he was wowed by Loremaster Kenna Devine on her journeys around the Pokeworld.

--Kashu

The Gekijou variant of a minstrel, Brock uses this character as a narrator for Gekijou and Gekijou inspired productions.

--Sir Vincent de Guile

One of Brock's rare villainous characters, this melodramatic marauder serves as the antagonist for "The Feats of Fiona", a series of sketches that spoof old timey melodramas

--Doko

Brock's noodlehead character and one of the Five Musos, this character claims to be a know it all, and doesn't like to admit he is wrong.

--Raven di Wynter

Another one of Brock's villainous characters, this icy cold genius serves as the nemesis for the Mistress Fever sketches (an ongoing series of superhero sketches)

More to come as the series continues...

Meet Lotta

An aspiring actor and film director, Lotta is the newest member of the cast. Luckily, her class schedule does not conflict with rehearsals for the show, but she is often seen reading during breaks or to pass the time waiting for rehearsals to start. Her energetic and friendly demeanor has already made her well known and well liked. Thankfully, she juggles her responsibilities in the classroom and onstage very well. She cherishes each day with the cast, and eventually hopes to make it big in Pokewood, with joining the cast full time as a Plan B.

Since she is taking Italian for her foreign language requirement, Brock often serves as her conversation partner (but he is careful to explain any unfamiliar words and phrases). She has also learned how to create characters thanks to him, and is applying what she has learned in the classroom by creating characters of her own.

Lotta's Known Characters

Here are a few of the characters Lotta will use for a sketch or play:

--Mistress Fever

A fire/light based superheroine with a heart that shines like her powers. By day, she is mild mannered student Elena Tyson (loosely based on herself). But when evil strikes, all she has to do is call "potere di rubino" (ruby power) to transform into Mistress Fever (complete with elaborate transformation video) Her boyfriend Zane (played by Rylan) has no clue of her secret identity, making him a prime target for Raven di Wynter (played by Brock), her icy cold nemesis

--Choti

Lotta's noodlehead character and one of the Five Muso. Choti is sweet and innocent natured, but can be naive.

--Maki

A brave and determined ninja apprentice that serves as the foil to Sage Yamoto. While he is calm and quiet, Maki is always on the go, and often has to be reined in.

More to come as the series continues....

The Show's Format

A typical episode of "Live from the Fireside" might go something like this:

--Opening set from the Firelights

--Welcome from Brock, who then joins in with the Firelights for a set

--Cartoon

--Sketch

--Games (in which players are pulled from the audience beforehand)

--Sketch

--Weekly Tale/Midpoint Set (if the weekly tale starts the second half)

--Weekly Tale/Midpoint Set (if the weekly tale ended the first half. On some longer stories, part 1 will close the first half and part 2 starts the second half. If the gang is performing a play, it always starts the second half)

--Cartoons

--Sketches

--Games

--Set from the Firelights

--Sketches

--Cartoons

--Brock's farewell and one last set from the Firelights

--Next Week promo

Of course, no two episodes are exactly the same, so an episode does not strictly follow this format

Meet the Firelights

The Firelights are the show's eight piece house band. They are notable for every one of their members being multi-instrumentalists, making them a very versatile group. While their typical setup is for rock/jazz music, they can easily shift to any style of music in a moment's notice. Brock will often join in with them (usually on his guitar) throughout the show, and some other musically talented cast members will join in on occasion as well.

Commonly seen instruments include:

--guitar (acoustic and electric)
--piano (digital)
--percussion (tuned and untuned)
--flutes (side blown and end blown)
--fiddle (for country and Celtic setups)
--clarinet (for jazz setups)
--saxophone (for pop and jazz setups)
--trumpet (for jazz, classical, and Latin setups)
--trombone (for jazz and classical setups, but Brock will occasionally noodle around on it, provide comical moments, or play a solo of his own)
--tuba (mainly for classical setups and comic moments, but occasionally appears in an old timey jazz setup)

and that's only for starters!

They also have an array of exotic instruments as well, which appear to set the scene or to play more exotic music.
