Benazir Bhutto killed

This is so depressing... I just heard before I saw this thread.

One more black mark for '07. Sad too, she seemed like a decent person.

Maybe this will be the impetus Pakistan needs to be a little more hard-line towards the border regions.

I saw that on the news a while ago. I didn't know about her before, but now that I do, wow.
That's so horrible.

This is really getting out of control.

Sad news indeed. She was an intelligent, well respected leader and probably would have done much good for her country and its people.

No good will come out of this. Her rule as Prime Minister is symbolic of the fact the Nation of Pakistan exists, without her, Pakistan looses ground, most literally in any national status. I'm concerned the people will force retaliation on someone, Israelies perhaps, just to get in a quick retribution. This certainly can't be good for an already unstable floating nation fighting for a spot in a politically unstable land. It's bad enough we have an 'occupation' a few countries over east. I hope things don't become more destabilized as a result, but I fear that's a tough call to make. Just look at the WWI scenario.

I think you're confusing Pakistan with Palestine. Though it's an easy thing to do. They sound alike. Predominantly Muslim populations. Hate people in countries beginning with the letter "I." Formerly part of a larger country with said "enemies." Controlled by the British at some point.

And of course the U.S. still has Bush in office so he will probably do something really stupid to counter the situation. He will probably move all U.S. troops to Pakistan and begin killing all the innocent people in the country.

This could really be a start of something bad for the whole world.

My mistake, I seem to be crossing my facts/history. So it's not Palestine, but still, Pakistan as a nation is not the sturdiest around in the Middle East. I stand by the shakiness and unease of the situation.

Suicide bombings are nothing surprising in Pakistan.

AlQ are already claiming responsibility for the attacks. Lets just hope this doesn't cause riots, etc!

Turns out neither the bomb blast nor the gunshot killed her.

Benazir Bhutto died from a fractured skull caused by hitting her head on part of her car's sunroof as a bomb ripped through a crowd of her supporters, a spokesman for Pakistan's Interior Ministry said Friday.

The Interior Ministry also revealed Friday that it had proof showing that al Qaeda was behind Bhutto's assassination.

Cheema said the government had an intelligence intercept in which an al Qaeda militant "congratulated his people for carrying out this cowardly act."

However, that claim has not appeared on radical Islamist Web sites that regularly post such messages from al Qaeda and other militant groups.

U.S. officials believe that a Taliban leader, Baitullah Mahsud, may be the person behind the assassination.

So it's either al Qaeda or the Taliban. So we now know as much as we knew minutes AFTER her death. Though now we know what killed her.

So it wasn't an assassination, period.

Right?

It was an indirect assassination, in such that the outcome of the attempted assassination is what killed her.

Unfortunately, that day is going to be marked as an extremely horrific one for Pakistan, and no good is going to come out of this. The Middle East is already unstable enough as it is, and this is just one more weight to add to the uncalibrated scale. Not only conspirisits, but many people are now widely accepting that the third World War is going to start over the turmoil that that part of the world has been facing for decades now. I can't say I disagree.
