Berry Routes

This topic came up as a tangent in a different thread, and I figured it would be kinda cool to have people share their berry planting routes. I'll start with the one that my wife and I use . . .

Start in Floarama
-Two next to the flower shop
-Two just to the east of town
Fly to Celestic
-Four on the west side of town
-Four on the east side of town, just inside the fog
Fly to Veilstone
-Four just south of town
Fly to Sunnyshore
-Four to the east of town
Fly or Bike to Pastoria
-Four on the outside of town, just to the east
-Four on the east side of the town
-Four on the west side of town, near where the swamp starts
Fly to Hearthome
-Four to the west of town, next to Berry Master's house
Fly or Bike to Solaceon
-Two to the south of town, just inside route 209
-Four in the middle of town, adjacent to the store
-Four to the north of town, past the tall grass

HUBOLOGIST'S BERRY ROUTE
(Time to complete: Approx. 5 minutes; Soft Soil count = 54)

For the purposes of this guide, a "slot" = a square containing Soft Soil, and a "patch" is a group of two to four slots.

To do this entire route, you will need: Cut (for one patch of four slots) and access to the Fight Area and Resort Area (i.e., you have beaten the Elite Four).

I recommend Flying to each town and using the fast Bicycle whenever possible in order to finish as quickly as possible.

Also note that the initial fertilization and planting of the Berries takes significantly longer than five minutes; five minutes refers to the time it takes to check and water all of them once planted.


#1: PASTORIA CITY

A: Exit Pastoria through the northeasternmost tunnel; the Berry Patch (4 slots) is up and to your right.

B: Right above the Move Re-learner's house, there's another Berry Patch (4 slots).

C: Exit Pastoria to the west, where it starts to rain and there are puddles. Go east until you reach the sign post, then south a bit, and you'll see Pastoria's third Berry Patch (4 slots).

TOTAL: 12 slots



#2: SOLACEON TOWN

D: Go north from Solaceon and take a right as soon as you see the signpost. A Berry Patch (4 slots) is behind some tall grass here.

E: This patch (4 slots) is smack in the middle of Solaceon; you can't miss it!

F: Go directly south from Solaceon until you hit a bike slope with stairs right across from it. Just off to the right, you'll see a small Berry Patch (2 slots).

TOTAL: 10 slots



#3: CELESTIC TOWN

G: Head east out of Celecstic (ignore the fog). Head down a flight of stairs to a ledge, then turn and go up the flight of stairs leading directly north. There's a Berry Patch here (4 slots).

H: Head back through Celestic, then exit to the west. You can't miss the Berry Patch right outside (4 slots).

TOTAL: 8 slots



#4: ETERNA CITY

I: Head directly west from the Pokécenter, and turn north as soon as you reach the sign post. Beyond some grass and a Honey Tree is a Berry Patch (4 slots).

J: Continue across the bridge with lots of fishermen. Once you've crossed, head directly west into the narrow passage formed by trees and a ledge. Follow this short passage to two Cut-able trees, then head south and west to find a Berry Patch (4 slots) and a lady wandering around by herself.

TOTAL: 8 slots



#5: FIGHT AREA

K: This one's a no-brainer! There's a patch (4 slots) just left of the Pokécenter.

L: Head east out of the Fight Area until you hit water, then go north into the tiny passage. This patch can be easy to miss (4 slots).

TOTAL: 8 slots



#6: RESORT AREA

M: Just south of the Pokécenter here, there are two Berry Patches (2 slots each).

N: Go directly north out of the resort area (past the swimming pool), and up to the tall grass. Behind the small patch of tall grass in front of you will be a Berry Patch (4 slots).

TOTAL: 8 slots

I've never used fertilizer before, so I'm clueless as to what to do there.

I almost always use Stable Mulch, because it has an advantage (extends the time mature Berries stay on the plant) but no disadvantages. One run's worth of Mulch (any kind) costs $200 x 54, so $10,800 total.

Another good kind of Mulch is Gooey Mulch, which ups the chance of a withered plant re-growing in the same spot... useful if you have one rare berry and think you might forget about it. It also has no disadvantages.

Growth Mulch is okay. It makes plants grow faster, but they dry out a LOT more quickly, so while you'll get your Berries faster, you'll also have to stay on top of your watering. So, Growth Mulch is great for common Berries that grow really fast anyway.

Finaly, Damp Mulch slows growth time and prevents the Berries from drying out as quickly. I never use this.

How often a day do you do this? Any set times?

Well... this sort of depends on the Berry (some dry/grow faster than others) and which Mulch you use.

However, for Berries that take a day or so to grow (like EV point reducing Berries), one run every 4-6 hours should be more than sufficient, and 8-10 hours in between a watering probably won't do any harm.

However, I have come to believe that the more you water your Berry plants, the more Berries will be on the mature plant (up to the plant's maximum), so I try to water them every 4-6 hours or so (in the case of Berries that take a day or a few days to grow). Keep in mind, though, that this is a case of diminishing returns, so watering every half-hour is unnecessary.

In the case of Berries that grow very quickly, I often use Growth Mulch and check them every couple of hours. They tend dry quickly, but they also grow very quickly, so I grow these kinds of Berries on weekends and such when I have enough free time.

Sorry to beat ya to the punch Hub . . . I kinda posted this thread in anticipation of your work. and since it was on the forefront of my mind, I figured, why not just post my route.

As far as the fertilizers . . . there's four of them,
Growth, Damp, Gooey, and Stable. I honestly have no idea why we can't buy in bulk. (sucks that we have to buy them one at a time.)

Well there's some new information. I didn't know you could lose berries. I suspected it, but so ar haven't experienced it myself.

I suppose I'll be using Stable Mulch mostly. As long as I run often enough, there shouldn't be a problem.

This is one of the things I did figure out about berries. I think it's more of an issue of keeping the soil from going to a lower wetness stage, rather than the actual watering. Each watering seems to reset the counter for until the soil dries a stage.

Yeah, that's exactly right. The "dryness timer" resets to 0:00:00 whenever you water a Berry plant, and if they never get dry while you're growing them (and you pick them before Berries start to drop off), you should probably get the max number of Berries for that particular plant. I think it's okay if a plant dries out to the first dryness stage at least once, though, because I know I've gotten max berries from plants like that many a time.

My berry route tied in to my Honey Tree route (although I don't need anymore honeytree pokemon now..).


Nice little guide though =) I was going to do something similiar, but I see someone has more drive. Kudos!

It's great to get positive feedback for this, and I'm glad it has been well received so far. Most of it (well... all of it) was in my head already, although I did have to run the entire route through to write good directions to each Berry patch.

If anyone thinks some of the directions seem unclear, or if you think of a better (or more concise) way to present a specific set of directions, please do let me know.

I hate to say it but your map is incomplete. There are a lot more berries in the southwest tip like Floaroma and north of Kurogane and one by Canalave.

It's not incomplete. The map and its accompanying text are a guide to GROWING Berries in empty patches of Soft Soil by following a pre-ordained route; ergo, I have planned out an efficient path that only includes the densest (and easiest to reach) clusters of Soft Soil.

I am well aware that other Soft Soil clusters exist. However, not all of them made the final cut, so to speak.

Canalave's patch contains 4, and is pretty easy to reach. All you need is fly.

And the one south of Veilstone is pretty easy to reach as well, just one short bike ride, you don't even need to enter the grass.

Yes, I know that my route doesn't include all patches easily accessible from towns. It only includes patches easily accessible from towns IF there are at least eight slots of Soft Soil in those easily accessible areas.

Sure, you could make a town-to-town route that includes 60 or even 70 Soft Soil patches, but I have tried to strike the best balance between volume and efficiency. Also, it's worth nothing that planting and fertilizing takes a long time, and the more Berries you need to plant, the more you'll dread doing it after a while (it does get boring).

Interesting you bring this up as there was something I'd always wondered about berries.

I love my lum berries since they're basically a free full heal so I usually do my own run between Veilstone, Fight Area and Solaceon. The only thing I'm concerned with is the amount of water necessary for each plant.

By any chance would you know exactly how the watering system works?
As you said, a dryness counter is reset every time you water the plants. However, does the game take into consideration how many times you may have went over it? Do shakes of the pail each count as 'watered one time' or is there a certain number of shakes to meet this requirement. Or, is it that each berry has it's own water count?

I was always curious if watering more than once had any sort of factor in the growth. I hope its not as complex a system as I'm thinking it may be, because I sure would be glad to be able to cut down on watering time.
