Im starting this thread to see what everyone thinks were the best albums of the year we just passed through.

Ill start: I think Guns N Roses new album Chinese Democracy was pretty damn good!

Along with AC/DC's Black Ice and metallica's Death Magnetic, 2008 was a great year for albums.

Anyone else have thoughts?

(Sorry if this thread was already created)

2008 was marked by old school-ish releases. Guns n' Roses releasing Chinese Democracy 15 years after the last. Metallica finding their spirit of the earlier days and AC/DC releasing the same album as always, under a different name.

I'd go for Metallica's Death Magnetic. Likely because I don't care about AC/DC or Axl Rose and his army of guest musicians.

You dont care about the best rock and roll band in the world? Your loss.

Indestructable by Disturbed was easily the best album for me this year.

I didn't think Indestructable was actually that great personally.
I really liked Modern Guilt by Beck.
I could listen to it over and over and had fun reading the lyrics.
Although it isn't as rock as the other albums posted here it definitely is unique.
And of course Vampire Weekend by Vampire Weekend was amazing.
I love that band.
It's like preppy world music.
For a first album it is stunning.

Good Girl Gone Bad Reloaded by Rhianna

and

Viva La Vida Or Death And All It's Friends by Coldplay.

Whos the greatest rock band in the world? I think Guns N Roses WAS from 87-93 but nowdays they are pretty lame!

They need Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven back! These new guys are pathetic..

But.. Guns N Roses are still my favourite band

and

Viva La Vida Or Death And All It's Friends by Coldplay.

I've found someone who isn't sayin' it's AC/DC or Guns N Roses, I don't feel alone now. :D

My vote goes for Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded - Rihanna, Year of the Gentlemen - Ne-Yo and 808s & Heartbreak - KanYe West.

My personal choice would be Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, by the way of interest.

"Bring Me Your Love" City and Colour

"Avalon" Anthony Green

"Only Way to Be Alone" Good Ol' War (you must check them out)

"808s and Heartbreaks" Kanye West

"The Bedlam in Goliath" The Mars Volta

"The Ocean and the Sun" The Sound of Animals Fighting

"The Alchemy Index" (All Volumes) Thrice

"Lost In the Sound of Separation" Underoath

Interest-wise:

Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends by Coldplay.

And I know my head is gonna get blown off, but Lessons to be Learned by Gabriella Cilmi.

Also, the latest Doctor Who soundtrack was epic.

Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends by Coldplay was a good album. Metallica did an excellent job with the release of Death Magnetic. And AC/DC sounded awesome with Black Ice.

So what if I'm a rock guy? All these albums were great.

I haven't listened to many albums that came out in 2008, but I can say my favorite ones I did listen to were "These Are the Good Times People" by the Presidents of the United States of America, "Accelerate" by R.E.M., and, if it counts, "Heavy Troopa is Ready to Launch," the Super Mario RPG tribute album sponsored by GameMusic 4 All.

Day and Age by The Killers was my album of the year.
Thrice's live cd@ the house of Blues was my second fave.
And Rareform by After the Burial was my third runner up
Indestructible was alright... probably my second least favorite album from Disturbed so far.
All Hope is Gone by Slipknot was a good attempt as well, something the fans either love or hate.

Edit:
"The Alchemy Index" (All Volumes) Thrice

YES!
