I vote for Ruby and Sapphire :)
first pokemon games I ever got and I think the 3rd gen pokemon were awesome and the towns looked great
 
I'm not so sure it's the best, but I had to vote for Silver and Gold. It added many more new things to the series, at least more than Ruby/Sapphire did, It had the most new Pokemon to come out, besides RBY, and It;s just my favorite all around.
 
Platinum is simply amazing :) Was going for emerald a while but no, platinum is better!
 
Hm... I mostly consider the original games and their remakes to be the same game, but I voted Fire Red/Leaf Green. They just felt like such faithful remakes, yet improved so much.

I thought about HG/SS, but I haven't played them yet and so far it sounds like, although great additions, they aren't as great next to the original GSC as FRLG are to RGBY.
 
Platinum, since HGSS isn't in English. I really need to be able to read what people are saying.
 
HGSS of course. Never been more excited or more motivated to work on a Pokemon game. Can't wait to see it state-side in English which I'll be able to fully understand.
 
I haven't played HeartGold or SoulSilver yet, but Platinum is pretty much the best without a doubt. The older games may have been more important, or better for their time, but when it comes to absolute quality, the newer ones are the best.
 
I'm in between Emerald and Platinum. Both had shocking and compelling stories, and then after that, there is over a million things to do once one is done thrashing the local villainous team and Elite Four.

I truly want to say that RBY and GSC fail very much in comparison. Seriously, fans need to stop living in the past.

many of my favorites are from that gen, it had a relaxing plot, great music, Wally is my favorite rival, Steven is my favorite Champion, etc.
 
My list:

1. Yellow: I remember flipping out about getting to start with Pikachu when I was a little kid. Now I realize that this was a major handicap rather than a good thing. Anyways, this was my favorite game as a kid.

2. Gold: This was the first really long epic game I ever finished. The feeling I got as a kid beating Red for the first time was something special.

3. Platinum: the most complete Pokemon game I've ever played.
 
I think everybody has their own opinion as to what they think is the "best" Pokemon game to them. So far though, Platinum and HG/SS are the highest selling handheld Pokemon games as of now. Anyhoo....the best game to me, and my most favorite is Platinum. I like most of the new designs for the Pokemon in Sinnoh, and the story line involving Team Galactic and the Distortion World just completely blew me away. I haven't been that excited about any Pokemon game since I had gotten XD about 3 or 4 years ago.
 
HGSS I have yet to play so.. Plat simply do to its features. Its simply everything you can do with pokemon done. And the use of wifi really pushes it to new heights.
