i was wondering if someone knew the best places to EV train for each stat. especially special attack. and speed. would it be best to transfer back to platinum and use the vs seeker?

You can train special attack very well on the girafarigs, mareeps, and flaafys on the route below lake of rage.

To be honest, you'd be better off just EV'ing in Platinum, unless you're EV'ing in stats that can be boosted by Golduck/Psyduck or Poliwhirl/Poliwag, since those are fairly easy to find.

Lakes are generally good places to EV train because there's generally a very small quantity of Pokemon species that can be found there. I haven't yet gotten to the point where I've needed to EV in HG, so I can't really help here.

Anyone have any suggestions? This is something I've been wondering about myself, since transferring over to my Platinum whenever I want to EV something would be a real pain.

The water in Celadon has nothing but Grimers and the occasional Muk, making it good for HP. Grimer gives 1 HP and Muk gives 1 HP + 1 At. Union cave is good for speed due to it having a high rate of Zubats.

defense is good wherever you find geodudes, gravelers (Victory road, rock smash rocks)

The Ruins are a great place for SP.atk

Just farm the unknowns there

Diglett's Cave is good for Speed, with the Digletts giving 1 speed ev and the dugtrios giving 2

HP: Surf at the Cliff's Edge Gate; 90% chance of finding Wooper (1 HP EV), 10% chance of finding Quagsire (2 HP EVs)

Attack: Surf at Mt. Mortar; 90% of finding Goldeen (1 Attack EV), 10% of finding Seaking (2 Attack EVs)

Defense: Tall grass at Route 2; 90% of finding Tangela* (1 Defense EV)

Special Attack: Surf at Route 35; 90% of finding Psyduck (1 Special Attack EV), 10% of finding Golduck (2 Special Attack EVs)

Special Defense: Surf at Routes 40 / 41; 90% / 60% chance of finding Tentacool (1 Special Defense EV), 10% / 30% chance of finding Tentacruel (2 Special Defense EVs), 10% chance of finding Mantine (2 Special Defense EVs)**

Speed: Surf at Routes 43 / 45 / Blackthorn City; 100% chance of finding Magikarp (1 Speed EV)

**Mantine can only be found on Route 41, as a HeartGold exclusive.

Here's a new question that I really should know, but fuck it, interaction is better.

When EV training, how does the number of pokemon who participate in the battle effect it? For instance, say I'm leveling a Tyrogue to evolve into a Hitmonlee—I want to Attack EV train him, right?

But if I'm also looking for expediency, and therefore fighting higher level Pokies, can I just have the Tyrogue be the first one out and then switch him for someone who can take down the fucker, or does he have to be the one to deliver the killing blow?

As long as the Pokemon gets exp, it gets the evs as well. You can use exp. share to make it quicker.

Rattats and pidgeys are on the first route during the day, they're good for speed. Also Sprout tower, during the day, is 100% rattata. At night it becomes 20% rattata, 80% gastly, gastlys are good for special attack.

I don't know why you'd think the Vs Seeker in Platinum is that much easier, it's the pokeradar that reeeally helped ev training in DPPt and you didn't have to walk away and come back to get into another battle.

No. That only works if you want both special attack and attack evs, unowns give you both. If you don't want to up your attack at the same time, unowns just waste evs or ev berries if you end up getting rid of them.

As long as the Pokemon gets exp, it gets the evs as well. You can use exp. share to make it quicker.

That takes away the ability to use the macho brace or another ev training item.

That's nice. I made a thread like this a few weeks ago and a mod closed it because he said it was unnecessary. >.>

Well so far as I know,
The little pond above Vermillion for sp atk at night (Thats when non-sp atk stuff shows up south of Lake of Rage
The water in Celadon for HP/Atk (Kinda atk)
The water off the coast of Cianwood for Sp Def
Thats all I know of =)

EDIT: Oh surfing the Lake of Rage for speed, lots of Magikarp

Slowpoke Well surfing for HP..

I guess the Wooper/Quagsire is better, but if you use a Power Weight, you always get 5 HP here, so it's easier to keep track of, either way, it's probably the next best thing..

Here this is from an old IRC convo, but it helps

<~Wiil> HP is Route 201 (50% Bidoof)
<~Wiil> Atk is Shinx (USE THE STATIC TRICK)
<~Wiil> Def is ...south of Veilstone in that cave that the Unown guy is in (100% Defense things, Geodude and Hippopotas)
<~Wiil> SpA is Old Chateau (100% Gastly with nothing in the GBA slot)
<~Wiil> SpD is Tentacool (I go south of Solaceon)
<~Wiil> Speed is Route 201 as well (Other 50% is Starly)

I use the Slopoke Well (land) to Speed train since 9/10ths of the time you'll run into Zubat here (1 Speed EV)

I also use the Sowpoke Well (surf) to HP train since you'll run into Slowpoke (1 HP EV) most of the time

Surfing outside Mt. Mortar only brings you Goldeen (1 Attack EV) and Seaking (2 Attack EV's)

Directly south of Blackthorn city, you'll find Graveler (2 Defense EV's), Geodude (1 Defense EV), Gligar in HeartGold (1 Defense EV if I'm not mistaken) and Skarmory in SoulSilver (2 Defense EV's)

The route between Mahogany town and Lake of Rage is where I do my Special Attack training since most of the time you'll find Flaaffy (2 Special Attack EV's), Girafarig (2 Special Attack EV's) and Mareep (1 Special Attack EV). Just ignore the Pidgeotto/Noctowl and you'll be fine

For Special Defense, I just surf between Olivine and Cianwood. In HeartGold, you'll find Tentacool, Tentacruel and Mantine, all of which give you Special Defense EV's (Tentacool gives you one and the others give you two if I recall correctly). In SoulSilver, you'll just find the first two (which is still really good)

Of course, with Pokerus, the Power Items and the Vitamins, you're life would be made a lot easier. I don't buy vitamis and I only have to fight 25 (+ one without the Power items) of the 1 (insert stat here) EV Pokemon to cap out that training and only 21 of the ones that give you 2 EVs in your desired stat
