I've only just recently got hooked on the Pokemon anime again. I've watched all of the d&p eps so far and now i'm stuck for what i should watch while i wait for the new eps to air.

Which series is the best to watch apart from the very first, and the d&p series? Ideas? I haven't really seen many of the advance eps. Only ever seen the first and second series in full.

Thanks in advance.

(Sorry if i posted this in the wrong place...noob here lol)

Orange Islands are great, as is late Johto, most of Hoenn and Battle Frontier.

Basically, any other saga is worth watching.

Master Quest is good. Ignore the "Johto sucks" people, Master Quest WAS filleriffic, but it was damn good filler.

I think that all the new ones are the best (graphic reasons usually) and the older ones are sorta ok. But by far DP is the best for me.

I might suggest Johto and Battle frontier. A lot of people I know seem to hate Johto but I found it enjoyable. It might be due to the large nostalgia factor though...

I actually agree about the d&p series being better than the older ones. The story, characters and like you said graphics are the best in the newest series. No offence to the people who love "classic Pokemon", but you have to admit that they've made a damn good job of the new stuff. That's why i'm so hooked and hyped on the new series.

If you like DP, most of Hoenn/Battle Frontier is very similar in terms of structure to it.

It does the same Ash + female coordinator route with Ash evolving most of his Pokemon, and most of the battles in the saga were pretty action packed.

Hoenn's only major flaw is the way the Groudon/Kyorge eps are handled, but the rest of it was pretty entertaining.

Cool, i didn't know Groudon and Kyogre were in the series so that's another reason to carry on watching the advance eps. (I started to watch them a few weeks ago, but stopped because i wasn't sure whether there was a better series to watch or not).

That season is okay, but the whole Groudon/Kyorge thing ended way too soon. You'll find out.

Argh! Lol, the wait for the new d&p eps is killing me.

Could watch all the films again too i suppose, but i'll probably end up finishing the advance series along with the films before more than 4-5 eps of d&p are aired. Hmmm...

I'm up to "a meditite fight" so far.

It comes down to your personal preferences when all is said and done. It's hard to say if you'll be a stickler for Johto's fillers, despite the more epic nature Master Quest calls to, which I felt worked very well... the only qualm I could think of was Misty's departure - the buildup was inappropriate and shoddily done. It was profoundly piercing on an emotional pedestal for me and it did add drama. But like most of Johto, things came and were gone with what but a window. Chains are weaved and are thus left to weave themselves as they slowly ebb into a complex mesh of unanswered questions that have been deemed in the red. That's not to say I'd rebuke Johto - on the contrary, I liked Johto. I just wish it wasn't so trite and predictable (especially with characterizations - as you can guess, I'm alluding to Misty and Brock, though Jessie, James, and Meowth, despite having good characters like Misty, fall into there as well... plus, the endless reservoir of filler episodes that repeated the same general crux in many different incarnations), which generally put a wrench in deriving as much enjoyment as I wanted to from it (for me).

And whether you chalk down Ash's Johto Pokémon to being abandoned by him or not isn't totally objective. Ash did register emotional resonance with Chikorita. He didn't evolve and train them as much as he could have. But I don't think he flat out disregarded them. As for the Orange Islands... I liked them. Granted it was a nice and less wrenched filler arc that was somewhat small but tied up well. I don't mind Tracey either. He's dulled by comparison to Brock but looking at what the writers ended up doing with Brock perhaps that surmounts to a good thing. Tracey never had that much of a chance to grow into his own character anyway. I only like the arc to a point but you may enjoy it. It's basically up to you. I myself didn't like Hoenn's Pokémon that much, for the most part, at all (but I do agree that the Groudon and Kyogre episodes skedaddled nigh as quickly as they came). Nor did I enjoy contests that were dished out (but I felt Gym battles became overused as well). And I felt May and Max were okay characters. Neither as memorable as Misty IMO despite how shafted she was (along with Brock), but okay characters (unless you'd contest that good and bad characters depend upon how they're justified to be deemed so).

I don't like Battle Frontier or Diamond and Pearl either in spite of the highlights I feel they have, but that's just me. No one can tell you what you'll like, to circumvent mincing words here. It's not a predetermined matter. I'd recommend watching the episodes for yourself to get a general feel (though, that won't quite work with Johto but you might end up liking it). But if you're one to see past nostalgia then perhaps you'll extol the newer episodes more. It's up to you. By matter of preference, do I say what you say.

You've got a good point. I need to decide which is best by watching a few eps from each series really, but i think i'll carry on with the advance eps for now because i like them and they're similar to the newer eps.

Thanks for the advice aswell.

My advice: If you can, watch every single Johto season and every single Hoenn season. If you enjoy all 6 of those seasons as much as I do, then I promise you won't regret a minute of it! ^_^

I really love Johto and Hoenn. Those two series are awesome!! <3333

I actually agree about the d&p series being better than the older ones.
I strongly disagree with that statement, in at least one aspect....

But oh well, I don't blame people for enjoying D/P as much as they can. Storywise, I must say it's brilliant! ^^

However, I really wish Cartoon Network would reair seasons 1 through 8. We need our nostalgia! =(

I'm up to "a meditite fight" so far.
Yay! I love that episode! =D

Advanced, Advanced Challenge, and Advanced Battle are definitely worth watching!

I highly recommend those seasons! =D

Speaking of which, I really need to get my hands on the Advanced box sets. Maybe I'll buy them when my birthday comes around....

Like Lisa said. Johto and Hoenn. Those were pretty much the best regions by far, IMO. Orange Islands were good, too, and same with Kanto. Johto's my favorite, though. ;3

Seconded, all the way!!

The Advanced Generation was my favorite, so thats what I'd say. There was a lot of sarcasm and verbal joking in this season (compared to the first, which had the cutesy humor). So yeah, I reccomend anything in the Advanced Generation. I was really a big fan of early battle frontier, so try that out.

If it's graphics you're after, you may want to watch the advanced eps. I didn't watch this series but meh. Johto was good, Kanto was awesome but somebody who's never seen them probibly won't like them.

As for movies, Destiny Deoxys was a real nice one to watch. Second probibly comes Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. The Manaphy film fealt a bit dull at parts, Jirachi Wishmaker was okay...

Anything before 6 would probibly feel outdated for a new fan. Although if this isn't the case for you, I love the 3rd movie <3<3<3

I've started watching the DP series on Youtube but only if it isn't a filler. That Bibarrel episode put me to sleep...

I've actually had to watch all of the eps online, because i can't buy the dvd sets...and i can't really get the sets because i would get loads of whining (sp) and p... taking from my friends. I've had to rely on megavideo and youtube but it looks like most of the eps aren't on youtube and megavideo doesn't work anymore.

I'm a bit stuck for where to watch them, and i can't ask for links on here because i know it's against the forum rules. If anyone has any ideas regarding that then i'd really appreciate it, any help is welcome.

Anyway...i've seen all of the films but i haven't watched some for a while now. My all time fav is the 2000 one, lugia's song is awesome, the story is brill and it has plenty of dramatic kind of moments too.

I've been watching Advanced Gen from start and I'd agree its better than say Johto but Kanto was awsome IMO.

Advanced Gen for me was good cause I liked how Max tried to correct people like May a few times. I just watched the episode with the guy who claimed to have the worlds strongest pokemon, a pelliper with "flamethrower" "vine whip" and "thunderbolt" it surprised me at first until I realised it had pokeballs in its mouth.

Its things like that you don't see too often, as far as I can tell, not in D/P anyway (I have only seen up to the Wallace Cup Episode as of yet)

But for me, there is something about D/P I don't like, but I can't pinpoint it, maybe it was that in older series, the storyines seemed more "outside the box" at times, such as the pelliper episode in advanced Gen I mentioned above or some of the Kanto episodes like "Problem with Paras" and so on?

My favourite of the films was Movie 2000. I love Lugias song and I can play it on whistle and learning it on my flute too!

I saw the movie with Celebi, but I was not so sure it was that good, maybe cause I missed the start of it when I watched it?

I also liked the Orange Islands quite a bit, I still remember the Pinkin Island episode and I have not seen it in a very long time.

The Master Quest filler episodes were not bad, I kinda liked them, but only ever saw a few.

The show has its up and downs in every season. I think the characters and Pokemon on the group also make some seasons better than others.
