What is the best starter from all generations?

Out of all the generations, which starter do YOU think is the best.

I'm not saying don't pick favorites, just have a reason for that selection.
 
I gotta go with Torchic, because Blaziken was my best Pokemon in Gen. 3, compared to all the other starters that I stopped using in every other game (except Oshawott, which I have continued using as Samurott). Plus, Torchic's evolutionary line has some of the best designs in the series. And Blaziken is just one of the coolest Pokemon ever. :3
 
Though Cyndaquil is my favourite, its movepool is lacking, so I'll have to go with my second fave, Chimchar. Infernape is a fantastic Pokemon, both in-game and competitively. It has many great moves like Mach Punch, Close Combat, Fake Out, Nasty Plot, Heat Wave, Thunderpunch and so on. Finally, having the highest speed of all Fire-type starters never hurts.
 
Snivy for me, mostly because he came from my favorite generation and he acts as my main symbol for Gen 5's good Pokemon design (besides Scrafty).
 
Bulbasaur is my favorite Pokemon by far. It doesn't hurt that Venusaur is pretty awesome competitively in whatever tier he's in. As such, he recieved my vote.

Other notable Starters for me are Chikorita, Totodile, Squirtle, Treecko, Torchic and Snivy, though I like them all to varying degrees (except the monkey. I hate the monkey.)

However, if you're asking which is the best Starter, and not just your favorite, the clear choice (at least in Gen V) is Blaziken. Uber Pokemon with a massive amount of synergy in its stats, movepool and ability. Most definitely the best of the bunch.

Not including Blaziken, who is uber, my vote goes to Infernape, the next big thing. Emboar could've been the same if not for his stat distribution.
 
Totodile. My first Pokemon ever. I typically go with the Water starter. No special reason that I choose Totodile other than nostalgia, really. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to which starter is stronger or better in some areas than the others. I just go with which one I like best.
 
Well... Blaziken is Uber so yeah he's by farthe best competivly... and I have a soft spot for him since he was my first R/S starter... Emboar is pretty pitiful due to his horrid stat distrobution... infernape is okay but I don't like monkies. Oshawott is absolutly adorable and Samurott is badass. Snivy and his evo's are all smug yet lovable bastards.

Charizard is my favorite starter period (ironic I'm usually down on Gen I yet both my favorite pokemon (Arcanine) and Favorite starter are from there) Treeko is awesome and Mudkip s very good. Chikorita is... Chkorita so she's out... her frieds Cyndiquil and Totadle are far better...

All in all I guess Blaziken for compeitive and Charizard for being arguably the most iconic starter andPokemon period
 
As of this gen. it's Torchic. Speed boost Blaziken is an Uber for a reason.
 
Charmander, because he becomes Charizard! :D

I'd also have to go with Tepig too, since he is the only starter with an evolutionary family that I love completely! With Charizard, I only love him. XD
 
Infernape is the best in-game as well as competitively. And i don't care about some speed boost chicken.
 
Squirtle. Blastoise is and always has been my favorite Pokemon. There's not a single water type i'd rather have by my side when I go up against a Champion or Rival. We've been through a lot together. From Kanto to Unova, from Blue to Alder, we've beaten every challenger that's been put in our way and i'd gladly go back and do it all again.
 
Overall, probably Charmander. Used it more, plus Charizard looks like a boss (and can back it up occasionaly, too).

Though I think Infernape could probably take each one of 'em on one by one.
 
as a gen I hardcore lover, it makes me smile that charmander is leading this. he was the first pokemon i ever picked, and ever since has been my favorite.

my logical argument as to why he is the best is because he is the least replaceable of the starters. What i mean by that is in pokemon red (fine, or pokemon firered) he is really the only good fire pokemon, whereas you could get a lapras instead of a squirtle and not be too much worse off (you actually may be better off). as the game has expanded, obviously there are several more options to replace any starter with another pokemon of the same type, so therefore i think charmander is the best.
 
Mudkip, because it evoles into a Water/Ground type, it learns powerful moves, and it knows some pretty unique egg moves!
 
Mudkip, not because of the meme, but because I love Swampert's "derpy yet powerful" looks and typing.
