Best Use of Vocal Song in the Anime?

*After wiping away tears* I agree with the above choice although I feel the use of the two songs in Go West Young Meowth was done really well, especially when Musashi and Kojiro come to save Nyasu.

I KNEW IT WAS GONNA BE THAT!!!! and I agree 100% that would have been my choice too.

I'm still not super familiar with the Japanese version of the first 3 series but I did like how they played Aim to be a Pokemon Master during Butterfree's goodbye. Mainly the softer part that played here at 2:32. I do feel like they mainly chose that song because at the time there weren't many vocal songs to choose from (had they even moved on to the second ending at that point?) and had this scene happened even a year later they probably would have chosen a different song, but I think in the moment it worked.

I'm also not sure if this counts but I loved when V (Volt) played during Satoshi's montage at the end of XY. It was pretty touching and served as a nice wrap-up to the series.

I so badly need to rewatch this episode, probably been 8-10 years (!) since last I saw it!

Glad you know me so well and that you feel the same :p

Omg that felt so good/bad to watch, such a powerful moment even after all these years! I agree that at any other point in the series they'd have chosen another song, but honestly for this moment MPM (especially the cut that they used) does feel perfect! Thanks for posting it.

You know I was in floods of tears by the end of that episode, although it started for me when Getta Ban Ban did. Normally I would feel that kind of extended montage to be excessively self-indulgent but actually, the last episode of XY deserved it.

I just rewatched that episode, I don't know why I thought they used Getta Ban Ban as an insert, but never mind because the V (Volt) montage was as emotional as I remembered! (And as self-indulgent...)
Do themes count? If so then Volt and XYZ
I meant more in the sense of vocal songs used as inserts in the show itself, but V (Volt) for example got at least one great moment in-show! Do you have any other?

Didn't the show used XYZ as Ash-Greninja's theme. And I think Getta Ban Ban because I think that was used in a gym battle.

Not sure if it's the best, but I love how well XY&Z fits during the Mega Sceptile vs. Ash-Greninja battle at the Kalos League. With the guitar solo coming right during the characters' dialogues and the vocals kicking in at the most intense moment, it looks like the entire sequence was made with the music in mind.

As someone who has been very vocal about my dislike of XY in the sense of it took itself too seriously, I actually liked that montage despite its self-indulgence! I think it's because it focused more on cuter, more lighthearted moments instead of "ooo look how badass Satoshi is guys, isnt he just sooo cool".

Also kind of only somewhat related, but if they ever do have Satoshi win a league/if they ever end Satoshi's story and have it end with a giant battle, they need to play Aim to be a Pokemon Master at the climax. Not the 20th anniversary version, but the original! If they don't I will riot (and probably break a hip because it'll be in like 70 years).

Too many to count. Especially XY is full of them, despite how poor it is at the music department. Contrary to that, SM is pretty bad at using vocal songs as none of them really suit the scenes. But my favourite is this little gem from early AG:

OH MY GOD bad animation in AG was horrible!! But that song is great, I've never heard it in anything other than that scene and it's a lovely one (maybe too lovely for the scene in question IMO :-P)

I don't know jack about the creative process of making an episode, but do they sometimes actually do that? Because I agree that battle was perfectly choreographed to the music. Even the Sayonara Dokucale/Kaze to Isshoni scene (the animation of which cannot be compared to Geckouga vs Jukain) fits way too perfectly for it to be a happy accident.

I've always envisioned it as the ending montage song to the series (where whoever is onscreen when he says the skirt line is the official winner of the shipping brawl ;)), but I'd be more than happy with this instead!!

Type: Wild in DP188, the final part of the Ash/Paul league battle. Not only did the upbeat parts fit perfectly with the super hype action moments (kaminari panchi! fureadoraibu!), but there is also the part where the song concludes and winds down in tempo with the violin (or whatever that instrument is) and that also fits extremely well with the scene unfolding on screen, as we get to see who overpowers who in the final clash, thus concluding the battle and the rivalry. Just a complete experience watching that thanks to the insert song.

I can't narrow it down to one so here are several that I like:

"The Rivals" in "It's a Southern Island! Everyone Assemble!" when Satoshi is reminiscing with Pikachu about their Orange Island gym battles.
"Kaze to issho ni" in "Hellgar and Togepi" - I love the combination of the old cel art + the song + Hellgar and Togepi out in the wilderness alone.
"Mezase Pokemon Master" in "Enishida and the Battle Frontier" when Satoshi is heading home after his Hoenn journey.
"Smile" when Kojiro releases Chirean.
"Nyarth's Ballad" in SM021.
