I was just wondering how everyone thinks the dub will handle Best Wishes Season 2?

We've had the dub change openings at different points in the 'season' cycle before and the Rival Destinies opening has already aged badly now most of the episodes the clips are from have aired. A change at at BW84 would leave the Rival Destinies opening at 36 episodes, one more episode than the Pokemon World opening lasted, so not totally unheard of. Can anyone otherwise see Rival Destinies staying around until BW96 or so? Or perhaps having the song stay but the clips change once any new Japanese source material comes along?

On another matter (which I'm worried about bringing up), if the return of characters for an anime version of the World Tournament does extend to Misty and other Gym leaders/characters from the original series, how likely is it that they will return to their original dub voices now that most seem to have come back to the TCPi dub? Or otherwise, has it been so long since some of these characters have appeared that it almost doesn't matter who dubs them because no one remembers their original voices?

I'd certainly doubt the dub season will be named Black and White 2, but I'd think they will follow the Japanese promotion of BW2 somewhat. Obviously it would depend on exactly when the US release of the games is, with the BW2 change in the anime happening the Thursday before the Saturday release, so if the gap in the dub airing is different than the gap between the game translations things could pan out differently.

I think they'll ignore the whole "Season 2" thing and will continue to fill up Season 15 until it'll reach 52 eps or a number close to that
VA-wise - they already gave Misty a new VA in Mirage so I believe they'd stick to her... as for other past Gym Leaders - they didn't bother with Jasmine, right? so I doubt they'd bother with any other ones... but I also seriously doubt we'll even get to see Misty or any of the past Gym Leaders... I can only see Brock returning from the same reason Dawn returns - because he was a recent series main character...

If I remember correctly, Brock's dad had the same VA in both the Chronicles episode in which he appeared and his first episode way back at the beginning of Kanto yet he sounded pretty different. It's like his voice actor forgot how to do his voice after not doing it for almost six years.

I imagine that same forgetfulness will affect the other VAs as well. Does Rachel Lillis still remember how to do her Misty voice after all this time? Does whoever it was who did the voice for, say, Steven Stone still remember how to do the voice?

And then there's the unfortunate business of having to recast Lt. Surge since his VA passed away a few years ago.

So I imagine they'll just recast everyone to make things simpler on themselves. The younger audience won't care one way or the other, and the older fans will get over it just like they got over the 4Kids -> TPCI recast.

I'd imagine Rachel Lillis would be able to do the voice of a very prominent character that appeared for five years non-stop. And even if she didn't remember the voice, she could just watch back some of her AG episodes to get a bit of an idea. As for Steven - he's quite a minor character as far as the anime is concerned, as he only appeared once (o_O), and eight years ago at that, so most fans of the dub probably couldn't remember his dub voice and/or couldn't care less. Misty, though? I think people would care about her voice more.

And then there's the unfortunate business of having to recast Lt. Surge since his VA passed away a few years ago.
Yes, he was voiced by Maddie Blaustein, who unfortunately passed away a few years ago, but to be honest I can't remember the character's very well either. So the dub would pretty much be forced to replace his voice (on an unrelated note, it would be brilliant if they could bring back his western swearing from the Japanese version).

Yep. If Rachel Lillis doesn't want to come back to do Misty's voice, we should just get over and get used to a new voice (and she probably wouldn't have her Mirage voice actor, as once again that was six years ago and they didn't keep all of the voice actors from that special anyway, as Kayzie Rogers voiced Ash in that special but didn't in the TPCi dub).

All the voices from the Mirage redub were kept for Season 9 and up (and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure about this)
So I can't see a reason for Misty to be an exception, even if she didn't appear again since then...

I doubt they will do anything. It will go on they way it is. Hope they don't name a season Black and White 2.

I'm with Piplup in that the current season will have been running too long to change it all of a sudden. (unlike the Galactic Battles opening, I think it was) We'll just have to live with another season of mixed sagas.

I don't think that Rachel Lillis would have a problem doing a voice for Misty. In most of the other roles I've heard her in, she always uses either her Misty or Jessie voice in some variation, more so with her Misty voice being more high-pitched for a younger girl, so I don't think she would have a much of a problem getting back into it. As for Steven Stone, that also was the default voice for the voice actor, although I can't remember his name, but I think it's more likely that they would give him a new voice since he only appeared in one episode. They could probably ask her if she wants the role, especially when she was able to play Maylene back in DP, so she would have a decent chance of returning to the role if Misty does appear.

I really hope that they change the images in the opening once we get the the BW2 episodes. Even though the song is painfully generic, I would be slightly more okay with it if the images flowed better, or at least were more relevant to the current arc. Once we get pass the sixth Gym battle, the clips are going to feel pretty dated and using some parts from a new opening sequence, that will hopefully arrive at some point, would be nice.

But it's not really "mixed sagas"... Season 2 of Best Wishes is, just that, Season 2... it's still Best Wishes, not a new series like AG/DP/BW... and it'll still continue to number eps from were they left most likely... and it'll be a direct continuation of the Unova story
I really think people should realize this already... there's nothing really new here - it's just the BW series continuing its story with some elements from BW2 being thrown in (and they're actually doing some BW2 stuff BEFORE "Season 2" starts - like the Luke Pokéwood ep or Homika's appearance... so the whole "Season 2" thing is really just something to excite viewers for the upcoming eps and play along with the "2" in the new games titles...)

I realize that this is still under BW in the numbering, but I consider this a similar situation to the Battle Frontier in that it's a second saga under the same label as the previous. The Battle Frontier saga did get it's own openings in Japan, but since it began at the end of Advanced Battle for the dub, that opening was made to include part of the opening that was used at the time. They have made no effort to include any future openings if they exist this time. We know they know of such things, but it is possible they just didn't want a new opening to be revealed by the dub, since that would not be fair to JP audiences. (They did give us Unfezant footage ahead of them, but that is perhaps excusable)

But it's not a "second saga"... we're still in the Unova saga, Ash is still collecting his badges... this is no different then Season 5 being a continuation from Season 4 and therefore a continuation of the Johto saga
There's no new saga or anything... I expect we will get a new saga like BF eventually, but only after the League... for now we're still in the Unova saga and nothing really changes with this "Season 2" thing, just like nothings really changes when the English version makes a "new season"... Season 11 continued from where Season 10 stopped and was simply a continuation of the Sinnoh journey - this is pretty much what's happening now (only that it's the first time the Japanese version used "seasons")

The Battle Frontier saga did get it's own openings in Japan, but since it began at the end of Advanced Battle for the dub, that opening was made to include part of the opening that was used at the time.

The reason they mixed openings in that case was more of a 4Kids ridiculousness than anything else
Season 2 was Kanto + Orange, Season 3 was Orange + Johto, Season 6 was Johto + Hoenn - yet they never mixed openings in these cases... they shouldn't have done that to Season 8 - they should've just created a new OP for these BF eps (maybe they decided not to bother since they knew they're not going to continue the show? I don't know...)

It's not like when Season 15 will get to the "Season 2" eps the OP will all of a sudden be wrong... it'll still look fitting since it showcase the main cast as Ash, Iris and Cilan and also shows the TRio... it's not like there are going to be any drastic changes that would make the OP look out of place or that would make them think of doing a "mixed op"

If there is a new OP to BW starting with this "Season 2" (which I'm still not convinced we'll get) then I can see the scenes from it being used to dub Season 16

There's been a midseason intro change with the same song, back with Galactic Battles. Granted, that was for the switch to the HD/Widescreen episodes.

all what I hope for now is that they air the B2w2 special episode, and not just skip it the same way they did with the DP special !!

There's no confirmation that it is an Anime special. I hope it is one but just an fyi.

And for most of the world until the end of DP anime stayed 4:3, so... xD Changing opening animation is the most logical thing they could do and they hopefully will.

so what could it else be ?? its not part of BW2 nor a movie..

It could just be stock art, all we've seen is still pictures.

Either way, I was simply pointing out that it isn't confirmed as animation as someone reading your post might have thought so. Really not a relevant thread to get into this.

If you want to be technical best wishes 2 would be our third season. The first season had 48 eps this season will probably have around that. So by the time we get bw2 it will be are third season which will bring a new opining

Not really, it'll probably start during the current Season 15 - I see no reason for them to end the season early just to start the Japanese "Season 2" as Season 16
