Original article.

Joe Quesada (Editor-In-Chief of Marvel Comics) dropped some MASSIVE bombs in an interview with Newsarama today. Highlights include the new creative team on Runaways (Joss Whedon and Matthew Ryan), the return of the black costume to the Spidey comics (and the possibility of ANOTHER Spider-Man), a crossover with the soap opera Guiding Light (yes...you read that right), and Marvel adapting classic novels (such as Last of the Mohicans) into comic format.

Added to that is the revelation of next year's big event: World War Hulk.

And, if ANYONE has heard of the Clandestine comic, you'll be happy to know that Alan Davis is bringing the characters back.

Along with ALL of that, Newsarama has several related interviews:

Dan Abnett discusses the new Nova ongoing series.

Sean McKeever talks about the upcoming Spider-Man Family ongoing series.

J. Michael Straczynski discusses the new Thor ongoing series.

C.B. Cebulski discusses the Loners (Excelsior) series.

Joss Whedon discusses taking the helm of Runaways. Some really great one-liners from Whedon about his "plans" for the characters.

All told...this is the first line of big announcements that HASN'T resulted in me going off on a tirade. Bravo, Quesada.

What IS runaways? I haven't heard of it until now. And am rather interested by the news that it's going to be Whedonised.

Joss Whedon's taking the helm of Runaways? Expect a lot more character deaths than we've seen up to now. Basically, expect one big bloodbath. I swear, I think that guy has a collection of snuff porn or something.

Honestly, I think it's one of the better comics out there. It's mature without being dramatic. It's humorous without being silly. It doesn't require you to know ANYTHING of the Marvel Universe outside the book, but it still fits in nicely with the broader Universe. And, take it from someone who skipped the first series, it's EXTREMELY easy to get into in the middle. And they JUST started a new storyline.

Damn my eyes for me doing this, but Runaways on Wikipedia. Pretty good overview of the series and the characters. Wish I could have linked to the Marvel Database Project, but I can only blame myself for not.
