Does no one think that the games will be on the 3DS, like Gold/Silver on the GB/GBC?

That would guarantee my buying a 3DS at launch, and it just makes so much sense since they come out basically the same time.

I hope Nintendo surprises us at E3 :(

Didn't they already say it was going to be for the ds, and released in Japan next fall?

I think the background of this forum should be changed to "POKÉMON BLACK AND WHITE ARE FOR THE DS, NOT 3DS!" and maybe these threads will stop.

So it is on DS, but it can be on the 3DS AS WELL.

P.S. I knew it was on DS anywho.

This is, like, the thousandth time people are suggesting this, when the games are clearly said to come out for Nintendo DS, and not Nintendo 3DS, which will not even be out by the time Black and White are in the stores. So stop making threads of this.

E: For the above post: 3DS has been said to play DS games, so yes, it will play on it.

The 3DS will most likely have backwards compatibility. Further Pokémon titles may be on the 3DS, but Generation V begins on the DS.

DS.

That is so disappointingly stupid -_- This generation will be outdated in like 2 months after it comes out, and the graphics will look pitiful to 3DS games that come out only a few months later.

From what I know, Black and White will be out for DS/DSi. However, I could see the third version on 3DS.

It's not stupid at all. GameFreak have only recently been given the 3DS development kits. The 3DS hasn't even been demoed anywhere yet (Will be at E3 later this year) and "Pokémon Black and White" have been in development for quite a while, as shown by the trade-mark for the games' names being made on April 9th 2009. It would be physically impossible for them to make games from scratch in the few months or so that they've had the development kits.

Pokémon games have always been released at the end of their console's life span. Heck "Pokémon Emerald" was only a couple of months before Japan's DS launch, and was released AFTER the DS's launch in America and Europe.

Considering the usual 2 year time-gap between the first games of a generation and the next games, the game following Black and White could be for the 3DS.

Stupid? Don't be dense. The DS is a massive money-maker. Why would they take their second best selling franchise from one of their consoles that has already sold so very well globally?

Releasing the new Pokemon titles, which they are making a lot of effort to hypen up, for the DS ensures everyone will buy it when it is released. The DS is a very srong selling system for Nintendo. Fans don't want to buy a new console to play a new game. This is solid fact.

I'm happy the DS is getting its life extended (maybe that's not true, depends on 3ds release date) because I'm not sure how much I want to buy the first version of the 3ds.

Gen1's releases say hi. No seriously though, gen1 was the SAME THING. Graphics aren't everything you know. >_> A good game is a good game, no matter the graphics.

Yep, which is exactly why we're all playing NES Fit, enjoying HeartGold and SoulSilver on our trusty '89 Game Boys, and posting to the Bulbagarden BBS from our 386's running Windows 3.11 (for networks!!!).

I'll buy B&W, of course (well, one of them, anyway), but it doesn't lessen my dissapointment that the graphics (from what we've seen so far) haven't really improved, at all. They look basically like Hg/Ss, with a modified camera angle (which, as I pointed out in the other thread, is something Hg/Ss can actually do as well). The engine doesn't seem to have been upgraded very much at all... but then I didn't expect it to be, given the DS is only capable of so much.

The "established market vs. new product" argument can be made for any new hardware release at any time... but inevitably, new systems have to come out. There were a ton of people initially resistent to the original DS Phat, clinging to their pathetic GBAs like childhood blankets (OMFG, DUAL SCREEN GAMING WILL SUCK!!!!!). We all know how that turned out. The fact is, travod does have a point. B&W are likely to come out in September (or sometime around then), and the 3DS is very likely to launch in October or November (going by past releases from Nintendo).

Yes, the DSi and XL will continue to be sold for a while after the 3DS releases, just as the GBA was when the Phat came out. That won't change the fact that when the 3DS launches, the majority of people buying new handhelds will choose it over any of the older DS models. The bulk of quality game releases will shift over to the 3DS, leaving only mediocre, bargain-bin titles to be released on the DS. And finally, Gen V's decidedly old-fashioned graphics will look like crap next to the 3DS games it's practically coming out alongside (seperated by only a handful of months).

Having new pokemon games on a new system would make it sell like hot cakes.

Not always a lot of people wait to buy new consoles simply for the fact that the first batch of a new generation of consoles released usually has a couple of bugs that dont get fixed until later

Having new pokemon games on a new system would make it sell like hot cakes.

No it wouldn't. Most people don't want to have to buy a new console to play a new game RIGHT when it comes out. Having it on the DS makes is much more available to the current players.

And if anything, it wouldn't make the GAME sell like hot cakes, it would make the CONSOLE sell like hot cakes. >_>

Possibly; but utimately I doubt the situation is GameFreak's fault.

Fact is, Nintendo left the DS on the market for a heck of a long time... and even though GF was rumoured to have been one of the first companies with 3DS devkits, it's obvious that Nintendo didn't inform them about the new system in time for B&W to be developed for it.

The end result of Nintendo's procrastination? We get to begin Gen V on a dying system.

And if anything, it wouldn't make the GAME sell like hot cakes, it would make the CONSOLE sell like hot cakes. >_>

Exactly. And that's what Nintendo should want. The only advantage to the DS at this point is that it has a massive, already-installed market. These people are going to cling to their crappy DS just like people did for the GBA, or GBC, or whatever other god-forsaken pieces of hardware have died in the history of electronics. Nintendo needs to give a lot of these people a convincing reason to upgrade, because many of them will continue playing their DS for 2 or 3 years before finally deciding it might be time to change, what with no new games having come out for 2 years.

The DS is nowhere near dying. =___= There are good games still coming out for it to this day. Just because a new console is coming out from Nintendo doesn't mean it's a dying console. Heck, take a look at the PS2 and the PS3. The PS2 might not get as many games as it used to, but it's still puttering along. It may be dying, but it's doing such very slowly.

Not to mention Generation 1 can be pointed to for this situation. It was released onto the GB towards the end of its days, and did it flop? No, it exploded into popularity. The console a game is on has nothing to do with how good a game is or isn't.

I meant that it would sell the 3DS. It doesn't matter if people aren't sure of buying a new console for a new game, because in the end, everyone and their grandparents will end up getting the 3DS for Christmas (or whenever it comes out) and Black/White. Even if the pokemon game wasn't their intention for getting the system, it sure doesn't hurt the idea of buying it.
