Re: Black and White to feature only Gen V Pokémon pre-National Dex: Feature announced

I don't understand how that came out confusing, but what I meant was that due to the relatively low count of species (151), some types might have no more than three representing evolutionary lines in the Isshu Dex. Kanto only had one Ghost line (Gastly) for the Ghost type and one for Dragon (Dratini); Sinnoh originally had two for Ice (Sneasel and Snover), two for Fire (Chimchar and Ponyta) three for Electric (Shinx, Pachirisu and Pikachu) and three for Dragon (Gible, Dialga and Palkia).

But that's been true of every region. No region has one of each type in perfect balance.

But it isn't a coincidence that the less species there are, the more this problem is felt. Having only one or two usable representatives of a type (preferably non-legendary ones) is not a good indicator. Granted, Johto still had that problem with the Dragon and Ghost types (presumably since Generation II introduced two new types), as did Hoenn with Ice and Platinum's Sinnoh with Dragon, but the variety was undeniably better.

All I'm saying is that there are negative consequences to reliving the Generation I feeling. By the time everyone grows accustomed to the new Pokémon (which won't take that long), this decision may not be viewed so favorably anymore.

But by the time people have grown accustomed to the new Pokemon in the games, they'll have the National Dex anyway.

I'm actually upset that there will be pre-Gen-V Pokemon. That would really have gotten me to buy the game. None of this 'buy-all-games-and-have-been-in-Japan-in-1999-to-get-all-Pokemon' nonsense.

Re: Black and White to feature only Gen V Pokémon pre-National Dex: Feature announced

You know... when I first heard this, my heart didn't sink like it did eight years ago when I heard there were only 200 of the 386 available in Hoenn... without ANY way of transferring forward from Gen II.

I'm glad.

Now, while Gen III pissed me off, separating me from my Typhlosion... I'm now at peace with that, considering I got the remakes I wanted. Gen V, bring on the new Pokémon.

Think of it this way. In Generation I, though it was a glitchfest, with poorly-programmed games... at least we had never seen Zubat and Tentacool before. They were something special.

In Gen II, we got more oldies than newbies. Johto depended most heavily on Kanto... so much so, that more than 3/5 of the Pokédex and 9/10 wild encounters were with Gen I Pokémon. Yeah, sure, some were rarer in Generation I Kanto, like Farfetch'd, but... Johto is literally overrun with Kanto Pokémon that we're familiar with.

Gen III... Hoenn took the stage, but most of them just served as replacements, rather than new ideas. Beautifly and Dustox are often pointed at for that, because despite being final forms of a single Pokémon, Wurmple, they're just a different kind of Butterfree/Beedrill pair. And then there were a bunch of old Pokémon. Not the favorites we'd come to like, like Scyther and Mantine... but my god WHY TENTACOOL AND ZUBAT.

Gen IV built off of Gen III, and struck a pretty good balance... especially in Platinum. Only thing that irks me about Pt's dex is the new evos thrown in at the end, more or less... but it balances things well. Johto favorites, near-useless Hoenn Pokémon now made useful... and Pokémon we'd missed since Kanto shining again. It was great.

But now... we need a change. We've become too accustomed to the oldies. Your Gen II team could be the same as a Gen I team, minus your starter. Gen III, you could just replace Kanto Pokémon with their Hoenn variants... Gen IV, same thing as Hoenn, really.

But remember this. Koromori is a Psychic-type. Not a Poison-type. We've got a host of new Pokémon. Personally, I'll be glad to have a Wargle and name it Colbert. And my firepiggy Ganon. I'm looking forward to Gen V, because I no longer need to look back. I know how to use every Pokémon so far, and use them well. I need new material to make new strategies.

I'm certainly ready for another fresh start. Between A) Being able to trade from Gen III to Gen IV, B) Having Old Pokemon with New Evolutions, and C) Getting a HGSS Remake to experience the old content, my fill of nostalgia has hit its limit.

But what would make it perfect? Absolutely NO NEW EEVEELUTIONS!

Re: Black and White to feature only Gen V Pokémon pre-National Dex: Feature announced

Here's my take on all this, starting from Gen 1.

When I heard there was going to be a new monster-training game, I was hyped. The anime helped fuel that excitement. However, when I got Red, Blue, and later Yellow, my excitement waned. As stated before, it was glitchy, it was poorly designed, and had a poor plot. Those three things were what made me somewhat discouraged. Not a good start, in my opinion. As a die-hard game geek, I was fairly upset with the design and whatnot. However, I stuck with it. But, even though it was new, Gen 1 left a lot to be desired.

Gen 2 wasn't much better. Sure, we were in Johto now, but Kanto was still heavily present in the game. On top of that, we only got 100 new Pokemon, and we were still dealing with the previous generation's gang. Like others have said, you were more likely to use older Pokemon over the newer ones mostly because of their availability. So much for a "new region" to explore. It was also short. The plot was better, but only by a bit. It still had the same old "catch all the monsters" theme, which was getting a little tiresome.

Gen 3, however, rekindled my interest. Hoenn was, by far, the most vivid and varied region of them all. With such a variety of areas to explore (from volcanoes to deserts to forests and even underwater), it easily became my favorite region. It also had some of the cooler Pokemon (IMO). Three of my top favorites came from Hoenn (there are probably more, but I would have to list them), and the story became more interesting. It still had the catch monsters theme, but now we had beings of Air, Water, and Earth that could shape the world at will, two evil gangs to make the story more complex and interesting, and a whole, brand new region with no connection to Kanto or Johto. A big step up. Also, Gen 3, even though it is often bashed, improved the battle system. Double Battles and how different attacks depending on what type they were could change the battle made things more unique. It also started the Attack/Special Attack split that Gen 4 improved on. When Emerald came into play, it mashed both Sapphire and Ruby together to create an incredible tale of Land VS Sea with Air being the tiebreaker. I think Generation 3 was judged too harshly, as it did set the stage for even greater things to come.

Gen 4 was a great generation. Sinnoh may have not been as varied as Hoenn, but it did possess great power in shaping the Pokemon world. Sure, there were drawbacks, like the lack of Fire-types (which was fixed in Platinum), but it had its charms. And it continued the almost mystical feel of the new powers of the Legendaries. Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, the mighty Dragon Trio that could shape time, space, and more. Arcues, the Original One, gives us a god-like feel to the region. Also, a better plot was introduced, giving us the battle between time and space, and those who want to control it for ill intentions. Also, Gen 4 improved the Attack/Special Attack split that Gen 3 started, improving it and giving us more strategy to work with. Now we have to wisely decide on what moves to teach our team in order to feed off our best traits and stats. HG and SS were a flash to the past by returning to Johto. An improvement on the sour taste that Gen 2 left in my mouth, but it still left something to be desired. Same problems as before, although much better done, and with a more detailed plot. And who cannot love having your Pokemon tail behind you like a best friend or pet would? Overall, Gen 4 was a step up from the already improving systems.

Now we are closing in on Gen 5. We're starting fresh this time, no oldies to bug us. Sure, I will miss Eevee, Zubat, and others (although some I am glad to be rid of), but this is a new beginning. We begin anew, with who knows how many new Pokemon we'll be seeing. It could range from 150 to even more. We just don't know. What we've seen is just the appetizer of this generation, the main course has yet to be revealed. I am excited to see this totally new region be born, and intrigued to see all the new Pokemon, their moves, Abilities, and more. Plus, who can say no to that hottie of a Professor? I've already started to plan my team, with Pokabu, Wargle, Meguroko, and Kibago already in my future team ranks. I personally hope that Gen 5 will also revisit Hoenn, as it deserves a chance to shine, despite the very painful verbal thrashing it's taken. I am eager to see what else is in store for us, as Generation 5 is approaching us at a steady pace. And with the anime on its way, things are only going to get more exciting.

That's all for now.

Now watch as we get a new bat that has access to Confuse Ray from the start, and now it has a 100% sleep move, Mind Reader, and a OHKO move. XXXD

I wouldn't be surprized if some of these "new, exciting Pokemon!" turn out to be "new, exciting, even more annoying than the things they replaced Pokemon!"

Uberbat, I choose you!

-Ahem- You might be happy to hear that I've been playing through the Japanese version of Pokemon White and still have yet to find any of Generation 1 Pokemon. Sadly, it has been confirmed that certain Pokemon will NOT be included in the game (Just in case some individuals did not know of this). Here's the list if you're interested.
