Black/White 2 - Which Pokemon did you add to your starter team and why?

I have just recently started playing Black 2 to "prepare" myself for Sun and Moon.
Since I am (pretty much) unfamiliar with Pokemon after Gen 3 (I know some Gen 4 ones), which Pokemon did you take in your team early on?

I am currently in Nimbasa City (just arrived) and my Team is the following: Magby, Servine, Herdier, Lucario, Magnemite.

As you may have noticed, I like to build my team around having all kind of elements. I was thrilled to know that Magmar got another evolution, that is why I caught Magby. I caught Magnemite for the same reason, just to learn that it can only achieve its final form when traded while holding a certain item (Magnetizer?).

I am currently using Riolu (evolved into Lucario) as my fighting type, which I will most likely replace later on. I still need a decent water type, as well as a flying type. I still have 1 free spot in my team and Herdier is most likely the one to be replaced as soon as I get a better idea which Pokemon to replace it with.
Magnemite will also be replaced as soon as I get access to better electro pokemon. (Note: I am playing Black 2, so I have no access to Elekid early on).

Magneton doesn´t need to be traded to evolve. You just need to level it up in an electricity central, or, in Unova´s case, I think at Chargestone Cave.

Right, I mixed it up with Magmars evolution. It is Magmar that needs a Magnetizer and to be traded to evolve. Thanks for correcting me.

For Black 2, I used: Samurott, Magmortar, Ampharos, Sawsbuck, Stoutland, and Swanna (I think).
Thank you for your suggestion! From the given Pokemon, I will definitely get Ducklett as it would cover my water and flying needs.

My (English) Black 2 team was Serperior, Arcanine, Krookodile, Flygon, Walrein and Heracross. Total beast mode.

White 2 Team:

Samurott
Electabuzz (didn't evolve him)
Arcanine
Stoutland
Lucario
Camerupt

When playing a game, sometimes I'll take type balancing into consideration, but for the most part, I just use my favorites and teach them a variety of movesets to work with to make up for the lack of type balance. I never played Black 2 so I have no advice to give on that. I can just say Lucario is pretty good. Good movepool and stats make him a keeper. The only Pokemon I feel would be a good fighting upgrade would be the Timburr-line, but to get the final evo requires trading. Best to just raise the friendship level and get a Lucario. =)

This is my White 2 team that I've been using since the beginning stages of the game, with some comments:
  • Serperior: chose it because I never had a Grass-type starter before, and wanted to challenge myself by trying one. I'm not a fan of its movepool; it gets good same-type moves like Leaf Blade and Giga Drain at a slower rate than I'd personally like, and TMs don't help until much later in the game. That said, it is a very fast Pokémon, which is always useful. If you haven't evolved your Servine yet, you could delay its evolution to get Giga Drain - a very useful and practical move - at level 40 vs. 44, if you think that it would be worth it for you.
  • Stoutland: Normal-type with a large TM pool... I have one on almost every team I make. Not much to say here; it's good at everything except for Sp.Atk which means that moves like Hyper Beam and Shadow Ball are a no-go for me... but there are plenty of alternatives for those, so it really doesn't matter.
  • Azumarill: because Huge Power is awesome. It doubles Azumarill's Attack stat, which combined with moves like Aqua Tail/Waterfall and Ice Punch make it one of the most powerful Pokémon I have, as well as one of the most useful against many different Pokémon types. Its only real weakness is that it's not very fast at all, which can cause trouble sometimes. If you ever consider choosing another Water-type Pokémon in the future, Azumarill is a strong choice, but if you do, be prepared to grind with its pre-evolved forms before it finally becomes Azumarill, because they aren't very strong at all, to say the least.
  • Lucario: an obvious choice. Powerful with a good movepool (plus Copycat, which is so much fun...) Not much more to say here.
  • Ampharos: probably not the absolute greatest Electric-type in the game (especially with its speed... it's slow), but it fulfills its purpose. And it does have the very fun move Power Gem for Fire-types and Ice-types (if you can get it to hit in time, that is...) But except for its extra Fire and Fighting weaknesses, your Magnemite - after it evolves - is probably a better choice for an Electric-type.
  • Espeon: it was a choice between the defense-oriented Umbreon and the offense-oriented Espeon for my Eevee, and I chose the latter. Naturally, that means that it faints easily with almost any moderately strong physical attack, but it makes up for it with insane Sp.Atk and the moves to match it (Psychic, Shadow Ball, and others of that nature). And it's extremely fast... second only to Serperior on my team. It's very special-purpose overall (you can't really take it into every battle and expect it to be useful every time), but it's a pretty good Pokémon to have nontheless.
I can't really help you with a Flying-type because this is my first real experience with Gen 5 as well, but I'm sure that Ducklett should serve you well for now (but watch out for that double weakness to Electric-type moves, of course). Hope that this helps you!

Emboar, Flygon, Aggron, Heatran, Rotom, and Kyurem. Only needed the first three to beat the game.

In my most recent team, I've got Samurott, Magnezone, Flygon, and Chandelure. I'm hoping to get a Tinted Lens Venomoth traded over from a friend, as well as a Simple Swoobat with Stored Power.

Mine was Samurott, Infernape, Electivire, Starmie, Lucario and Golurk. The Golurk was traded over as a Golett not three minutes after I beat Cheren's gym; there was no way I was starting a journey in Unova without a Golurk. Big dude's my signature Pokemon you know.

White 2-

Serperier
Staraptor
Azumaril
Flareon
Ampharos

...the sixth guy I used escapes my memory.

White-

Serperier
Simipour
Unfezant
Krookidile
Darmanitan
Galvantula

Black 2 Beast team:
Serperior
Volcarona
Swanna
Galvantula
Krookodile
Lucario
(Yeah, I had two Bug-types, and no 'mons that resisted Flying.)

My team was

Samurott
Arcanine
Ampharos
Sandslash

I forgot why I didn't put two more on my team, and it made that playthrough all the more difficult.

I used some of my all-time favorites:
Roserade
Flygon
Vaporeon
Arcanine
Lucario
Zoroark
