We all know what blacking out in a Pokémon game means right? When all your Pokémon faint during a battle, you black out and run back to the Pokémon center you last visited. I've always wondered why doesn't this happen in the anime or at least referenced. I might give myself the answer by stating that the "black out" feature acts as the GAME OVER type of thing for the games. However I wonder if they ever did decided to implement the blackout feature or reference it (which is highly unlikely) how would it look...

It wouldn't make sense in the context of the anime. Ash and co aren't always near a pokemon center anyway, and with how much Ash loses against characters of the day, that would be a lot of boring backtracking

The reason it happens in the games is because you can't be in the middle of a route without having a healthy Pokemon. Otherwise, if you do encounter a Pokemon, you are going to have the same issue as Prof. Birch. It simply wouldn't make sense in the anime how a trainer magically teleports back to the Pokemon Center. Going there right after, however, does make sense, and is something that (I believe) has happened before.

Not that it really makes a lot of sense in the games either, but the anime ≠ games.

The whole "blacking out" thing in the games doesn't make much sense to me anyways. I mean, you can lose some really pivotal battles that could determine the fate of the universe (Cyrus...), but you just black out... and the whole sequence just restarts... I'm personally okay with the anime not doing that.

In the Pokemon leagues, after Pikachu is defeated, a few minutes later he is seen recovered without needing a Pokemon center, so we can assume that this happens to other Pokemon as well, and the Pokemon center is only needed to cure serious injuries and probably status ailments.
