Blastoise vs Swampert

Blastoise and Swampert don't seem to have much in common at first glance, but a deeper look can prove that assumption to be quite untrue.

First, they're both Water Starters.

Second, they both appear in parallel running games. In fact, they were both the Water Starter choices within the same generation.

Third, they're both primarily defensive Water Pokemon. With fantastic bulk and good support movepools, these two Pokemon help define the term "Bulky Water". Sure, both have their niches in competitive battling (Blastoise is a Rapid Spinner while Swampert is a Stealth Rock lead) but even then, bulk plays a major part in their battling capacity.

It's interesting to note that in a battle, these two Pokemon are quite evenly matched. Moreso than any other Starter, I'd wager. I mean, Blastoise can hit Swampert with STAB Hydro Pump (coming off an average Sp. Atk and hitting an average Sp. Def) for neutral damage but Swampert can hit back with neutral STAB Earthquake (coming off a great Atk but hitting a great Def) so the victor is actually not that clear cut.

But regardless,

Which one of these Pokemon do you prefer?

Which one would win in a battle?

Which one is more useful overall?

Personally, I'm going to go for Blastoise. I've always loved that Pokemon and turtle + cannons is an epic win right there. Swampert gave me a bad first impression (I literally thought it was just an odd looking Mudkip) and doesn't seem quite as creative as it's counterparts Sceptile and Blaziken. So, Blastoise it is for me (though Swampert is the most useful overall)

Swampert.

Swampert, because it has a higher attack power and a large variety of moves.

I'm actually curious as I haven't gone through their movepools in quite some time. Besides Stealth Rock, what notable moves does Swampert have access to that Blastoise doesn't? I know that Blastoise gets access to Water Spout, Counter, Mirror Coat and Rapid Spin, but how does Swampert stand out?

I like how Swampert gets STAB Earthquake. He's also slightly bulkier than Blastoise. He also gets Hammer Arm, Earth Power, and Double Edge.

Ah, well there ya go. Though I believe Earth Power is kind of wasted on a Pokemon with such an average Sp. Atk. Earthquake is more often than not the better option.

how does Swampert stand out?

-Electric resistance
-Sandstorm resistance
-Rock-type resistance
-STAB EQ, which is awesome

Anyways on topic, I prefer Swampert because it makes Zapdos and Electivire look like lil' bi**hes, also able to counter Tyranitar, Metagross, and Dragonite respectively.

Swampert. Hands down. Better movepoolm STAB from 2 powerful types. Has one weakness. ^ Sums up my point.

I like both, but I prefer Blastoise a bit more.

But Empoleon pwns those two. :p

I know how it's typing helps it. I was talking about movepools.

Oh, sorry, I didn't read your post carefuly enough then. Well so about move pool, hmm...

Swampert pros
-Stealth Rock, we all know how important it's in some cases.
-Stone Edge, flying types die, Gyarados, Dragonite.
-Superpower, flexible move to strike hard.

Blastoise pros
-Rapid spin, spike remover, really important
-Water Spout, hmm, I have no idea why I included it since it's really rare outside normal game. However still, powerful punch.

Well and Swampert gets STAB to ground and water, Blastoise just water moves. Honestly it's just about type advantage. Water/Ground vs Water. Swampert is more flexible pokemon in battle than Blastoise.

Does anyone have a swapert level 100 here? I will battle you with my blastoise lvl 100. (it has only had a few rare candies)

Blastoise is pwn. I hate Swampert for three reasons:

*I don't do competitive battling very often, and even then I don't pay attention to tiers and that crap, so Blastoise works just fine for me:He's bulky and has good moves.
*I HATE mudkips. I like the meme, it's just that my friends use a bunch of Mudkips and Swamperts on me.
*Blastoise has...how do I put this? He has a Gen.1 vibe, y'know? He seems more...natural and simple. I'm not sayin' I don't like non-Gen.1 Pokemon, but Blastoise just looks cooler and easier on my eyes then Swampert.

Swampert, only because it looks better, though I rather not use any of them.

I said Swampert, but I'm not really a Water type user, I have both and they make a good tag team.Perfect for Protect/Earthquake combo.

Swampert. Its usefulness is immediately apparent. With Blastoise, their are better spinners out there. But Blastoise is quite awesome too.
