This has been brought up numerous times on Bulbapedia discussion pages, and I feel a conclusion needs to be drawn. Many users, myself included, feel that all vandals, regardless of severity, should receive an infinite block. It's clear that the vast majority of these users will never contribute to the site's betterment, so why block them for, say, one month? Why not make sure they never come back with an infinite block? If, in a very rare instance, a user feels they've been blocked unjustly, they're free to e-mail an admin to request un-blockage (for lack of a better term). Your thoughts on this proposal?

I would suggest a minimum block of one year. Infinite blocks don't really sit well with me; people do change (well, some of them). And I can imagine this happening to people involved in an edit war, although the administration here should be given more credit than that.

i feel vandals, be they major, or minor vandals, deserve an infinite ban as its clear that they have no intention of posting usefully.

I agree for the most part. But here's something to consider...

How likely do you think it is that a vandal will actually wait until his block is up, come back, and do more damage? If they really wanted to attack again, it seems to me like they're more likely to just create another account and use that.

I'm not saying that there's any reason not to give infinite blocks. But if you put a block on as long as, say, a year, I'm not sure if it makes any difference.

If it's just some kid who gets pissed off and decides to vandalize, yeah, a shorter block is good. If it's something like those asses who decide to move every page to vulgarities... no. Forever.

well, they way i see it.
if someone joins and starts to vandal immediately, then, you block forever.
but if say, Marton up there went crazy and vandals a page or two, just give him a temp block because Marton is a known good contributor. of course, i highly doubt Marton is going to vandalize anything, but, its just an example. (sorry Marton)

I agree with Deth. I've commented on it on many talk pages. They're not there to contribute after a week long ban, they JUST vandalize.
