Thought I'd ask, but would the Pokemon community be bothered by that?

For those not in the know, Breath of the Wild's Amiibo use has the creation of randomly generated crates. With non-Zelda Amiibo they contain common items, while Zelda specific ones can contain more specific items that can range from weapons that are harder to find to items that you can't find otherwise that are new to the game (like past Link outfits).

Also Epona.

What I'm thinking is that Pokemon Switch could do something similar. Non-Pokemon Amiibo could just drop Pokeballs, Potions, and Berries, but using Pokemon Amiibo could have rarer items in them like Battle Items and Evolution Stones. Heck perhaps they could even be used to unlock outfits worn in default by past protagonists.

Thoughts?

Please note that my entire post is going to be heavily biased, because I don't like amiibo.

They shouldn't do amiibo.

Post over.

...just kidding. Anyway, I hope they don't. I don't like when certain features are locked behind that crap. Even if it's optional, or just something simple like the treasure chest drops. I don't buy amiibo, so I can't access those features. Also, what amiibo would they even go with? Obviously they already have Pokémon amiibo from Smash, but I highly doubt they would make a figurine for every single Pokémon.

Actually, now that I think about it, I feel like they could do something like animal crossing and make a series of amiibo cards. It'd be a lot easier to produce, and cheaper for buyers. That way they could theoretically have one for every Pokémon. I still wouldn't buy any, but that's the most plausible way I could see. not really sure what they would even do in-game though. Whatever it would be, I'd hope it wasn't something worthwhile, because I do NOT want to buy any amiibo.

You hardly need every mon. A line for major figures like Sceptile and Rayquaza is fine.

This will seem very odd, given my username, but I really hate toys to life as a mechanic. Few games that employ it are actually making toys-they're really just figurines. They're not a fun bundle for kids, they're an extra paywall. It did Skylanders more harm than good-the unique character designs could be completely missed if you didn't want to pay for them. The only TTL game I think ever did it right was Lego Dimensions. They had actual Legos for their figures, and they even made it easy to take the figures off and use them as actual toys. (The bases had stickers to keep them from getting mixed up)

But while amibo doesn't have any actual toys, they do have a pretty nice mechanic going for them in that their usage isn't required, but can provide a cosmetic change or perks that would still be obtained through gameplay. The system you're suggesting, Krspace, fits this quite nicely, and I wouldn't mind seeing this, though I wouldn't get much use out of it.

I think it would be a good idea, but surely they could find a better purpose for them than poke balls and potions.

I know this would be unpopular, but maybe they could use Amiibo for Mythical Pokémon? I don't mean like a one-use thing where you have to buy one Amiibo per one Mythical download as a Mystery Gift replacement, but rather one Amiibo for infinite downloads for each save file once all of the Mythical downloads are finished for that generation. That way, people can restart their games without permanently losing out on a Mythical and it could give people who lost out on an event Pokémon a chance to finally get them.

Introducing Amiibo to the core series titles could be a good idea. Amiibo in general only unlock extra items or aesthetics, so anybody who doesn't purchase them wouldn't be missing out, but we'll have another Amiibo compatible series for those that do.

I liked the idea of making Amiibo cards instead of figures, if they wanted to feature a vast amount of Pokémon. They could even go all out and either create a TCG expansion of trading cards that also work as Amiibo, or simply design the Pokémon Amiibo cards to look similar to the trading cards.

Personally though, I would love more Pokémon Amiibo figures.

I had to find an equivilent for the Breath of the Wild apples.

The ones that currently exist are Gen 1, 4, and 6 members. Frankly if you have figures for the other generations I feel that would work out pretty well to set up a 'unlock past character outfit' set up.

I love the idea of TCG cards functioning as Amiibo, it'd be a great way to cross promote the two mediums. The only concern I would have is if they can be make enough of them for cheap to mass produce them as they do with the TCG, considering Nintendo's difficulties with Amiibo I'm not sure they can. What they could try is maybe making rares/holos function as Amiibo as that might be cheap enough for them to get away with it. But if they can afford to do it it's a great idea and it would give people a new reason to buy the TCG cards.

I wouldn't expect every card to work as an Amiibo card, which is why I suggested an expansion series which contain all Amiibo cards. That way, they don't need to mass produce every trading card at a good price while also making them Amiibo compatible. Just having an expansion series dedicated to Amiibo cards would work.

Although they will probably just be better off making Amiibo cards that aren't part of the TCG (although hopefully designed to look just as nice).
