Okay, I tried to write this before, and lost, but I promise I'll do better this time. The first chap. is just like the first time around, but this time I'm gonna keep going.
I own nothing.

"Brendan!" Professor Birch said into his Pokenav. "Join me in the field; I think you'll like what's going on." Brendan said okay, but rolled his eyes. He put his Mudkip, Tide in his Pokeball; then went to the desk in his room and got ready.
"Let's see... Pokeballs, bag, Pokedex, Potions..." Sensing another presence, Brendan jumped. Looking over, he saw that the intruder was a girl. "Hey!" He yelped "Who are you?"
"May Haruka." The girl replied calmly. She was rather pretty, if you asked Brendan. She had long, light-brown Spoinktails, and baby-blue eyes. "Haruka?" Brendan repeated the familar name. "Oh! You're Norman Haruka's daughter! Moved in next-door, right?"
May nodded, her eyes cool. She obviously didn't like being first recongnised as Norman Haruka's daughter. Brendan noticed his mistake, and tried to repair it. "I'm just suprised, ya see. My dad, Professor Birch said the new neighbor was a Gym Leader's kid, so I assumed you'd be a guy."
Big mistake. May's eyes flashed dangerously, and leaned towards him with an angry look on her face. "Oh! So being a Gym Leader's child means I shouldn't be a girl, Whitehead?" Boy, was she mad!
Just as Brendan was about to reply, Tide let himself out. "Hey, a Pokemon!" May cooed. She squated down to pet him. "Your Mudkip's adorable!" Brendan nodded in response. Then May said "I wish I had a Pokemon!"
"You don't?" Brendan asked incredously. May shook her head. Brendan felt sorta bad for her. Bad-tempered or not, he was starting to like this girl and be entertained by her. So, he offered "Do ya want me to catch one for ya?" Talking of catching Pokemon reminded him...
"Darn! I'll haf'ta help you some other time, May; I forgot about helping my dad!" He headed out, but when he got there, his dad wasn't anywhere in sight. Running his hand through his spiky white hair, he walked out to the route past Oldale Town.
Tide was on his shoulder, and he was muttering to himself, when he yet again felt that someone was near him. Again, he turned and saw May. He also saw that she had a Torchic on her shoulder. "Oh hi, May." He said cheerily, trying to make peace. May didn't look apeased, and rolled her eyes.
"Hello again, Whitehead." She said dryly. Now, Brendan was starting to get irked. "You've got a Pokemon now, Miss Gym Leader's Kid?" He asked. She nodded, and Brendan said "Then I challenge you to a battle!"
