Broadband problem.

Up until recently my broadband has been working fine. No problems or anything, but in the last few days it has been refusing to work. Now, I'm not the most tech-savvy person, so I have no idea how to fix it.



The problem is that, whenever my phone is connected downstairs it won't work, but as soon as I disconnect my phone the broadband works. I don't understand how it can work perfectly fine for the last year, and then suddenly just not work properly. This is the second day of it not working while the phone is connect.

Broadband is supposed to work without interfering with the phone-line (correct me if I'm wrong) as this is not dial-up. So, like I said, I have no idea what to do.




Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Just remember that I'm dumb about technology of any sort, really. Thanks.
 
do you have a broadband filter on the line? also do you have any other things going through the line like an alarm or anything? they're the only things i can think of (unless someone is leeching your wifi... you should be able to view who's using it via your router - if you have your wifi set for DS trading that may well be the case as the security is lower - i use a nintendo dongle thing & it was a pain to install but it's better imo)

also what ISP do you use? (as asked above) i'm on orange & it's terrible - tiscali was awesome but they're no - there was an investigation recently showing the true broadband speeds of all UK broadband providers & that may be worth googling to see if yours is a ropey one like orange

barring that i'm stuck too dude
