Or maybe it's just me?

I mean, yes, I've been looking forward to this moment for a very significant amout of time (500 episodes! It took them 500 episodes to give the breeder an egg! *rant rave usual blah*) and now that it's here... well, is it just me, or are they handling it differently than before?

Brock's been carrying it around in his arms instead of that weird incubator jar. It still has a tendancy to disappear for major lengths of the episode, but we got a major focus at the start of the Buizel episode, and I'm seeing screenshots from the Lucian episode with him holding it the same way. And then, on that same note, there's the rather infamous moan he made at the start of the Buizel episode out of pure happiness. There's the editing of it into the intro and ending, which is something completely new, I believe. And in a very notable way:

Spotlighted much?

And if the "explosive birth" episode is Happiny hatching, as people expect, then it sounds like its hatching will also be a very significant episode, possibly made into the biggest deal since Togepi hatched, maybe. (Well, I mean, Eevee hatched at the end of a special episode, but the focus of the episode was really more about May and Meowth traveling through time and spreading warm fuzzy holiday feelings to the audience or something.) The fact that it references a movie title alone is nothing to bat an eye at...

Is it intentional, maybe? I mean, if they're making this a bigger deal on purpose, there's any number of reasons why. Even just advertising. (I swear, if they spotlighted that egg anymore, they could make and sell plushies of it and people wouldn't think it was odd... actually, reversable plushies of different baby Pokémon and their eggs could be kind of cool.)

Personally, I'm just really happy to see it, because - well, this is Brock, and it couldn't be any more in-character for him. It may or may not be intentional, but it couldn't make more sense in my mind.

They had the right idea back when they had him taking care of Togepi's egg, and then... they had it latch onto Misty as its mother, which led to all sorts of people blaming it for her dampened character during Johto. Then Ash got his own eggs, which were both kind of interesting but hatched almost immediately and were more important as Pokémon than as eggs, I'd say... then eggs got ignored until May got a pair in Battle Frontier, one of which was a movie plot, and were still... well, sort of a bigger deal, possibly because she's typically girly and does the contests and so baby Pokémon kind of fit, but... still, it seemed like it was more the Pokémon afterwards that was the big deal. Manaphy had a bit more focus on the egg, but that's really promotional tie-in, isn't it?

And now Brock has one, and it's a bigger deal. Which I really hope was intentional. He's the breeder, the caretaker, the one who knows exactly how to treat a baby Pokémon well and raise it to be a strong, loyal, mature Pokémon (as we've definitely seen with Bonsly into Sudowoodo).

I guess it could just be the writing's been getting better, though...

...

Am I thinking about this too much? I can't help it. On top of all my Brock fangirldom, I like eggs. ^^o

[18:24] <Paperfairy> why do I feel as if Happiny will be the new Togepi
[18:24] * Pie tries to post a thread on Bulbagarden.
[18:24] <Paperfairy> and when it hatches, it'll appear on Pika's head in the opening

This should be very exicting, but I doubt Happiny will do anything incredibly important. Seeing Brock with a Blissey seems very possible with Brock's personality, but then again, it might be subjected to Forrettress or Dustox syndrome.

Brock with Togepi would've made a lot more sense . . .

I hope Happiny brings something to the group...I mean, maybe he'll be...

A BICYCLE CHAMPION!

Agreed completely. Why did they have it follow Misty instead? Seems like gender-role casting to me... >>'

With those tiny legs, I sort of doubt it.

Plus: She. Happiny and its evos are 100% female.

She will overcome the common stereotype that women = nurses and show the world you don't need legs to ride a bike, you only need a heart.

[18:55] <Pie> ... oh for crying out loud Habunake XD

pretty much sums up what I'm thinking

Actually, no one cared about Eevee...it was the weeks of speculation over what it was. :p

I think a big difference is Happiny is probably going to be the next Togepi...just hopefully handled much better this time. (At least we all hope so)

I think the reason they didn't make as big a deal out of the eggs of Phanpy and Eevee is because well...they were born to be battle-ready Pokemon. As soon as Phanpy/Eevee hatched, Ash and May could already use them in battle even though they were infants. There was no "mystery" about them per se, Phanpy and Eevee aren't mysterious Pokemon to begin with. They were just new battle-ready Pokemon for Ash and May.

On the other hand you look at Togepi, who couldn't even battle and sat in Misty's arms for 200 episodes. There was also a big mystery about its secret powers, which stretched across a number of episodes.

IMO Happiny could either be like Togepi or Bonsly. Either its going to be helpless in battle when it hatches and they will have a mystery about it for a number of episodes like Togepi, or its going to be a baby but can battle at the same time like Bonsly. I'd prefer it to be like Bonsly, because it wasn't totally helpless like Togepi was...but it probably won't be as battle oriented as Phanpy and Eevee were for obvious reasons. As long as they make Happiny interesting, that's all that matters.

Oh GOD. Next to Buizel and Aipom trade. THE DUMBEST DISCUSSION TO EVER SPAWN IN THE POKEMON FANDOM!!!

Rant aside, I find it funny that he'll get a possible Chansey in the future. Use that as a reason to hit on Nurse Joy? 0_0

Admittedly, I would have found it wonderfully amusing if it was just a run-of-the-mill Zigzagoon. Besides, they're so cute!

Yeah, we're pretty much all expecting that.

Though some of us are also expecting that if it becomes a Chansey, it'll move on to Blissey pretty quickly, since - well, this is Brock. He keeps his Pokémon happy and healthy. Remember how quickly Golbat evolved into Crobat?

I'm not sure what it's battling will be like. However, it seems like such a happy-go-lucky Pokémon - actually, the whole line does. But seriously, when it's called the Playhouse Pokémon and its Pokédex talks about it sharing the stone in the pouch with friends... I'm hoping in the anime it'll be an extremely affectionate, cheerful and playful Pokémon. :3

As long as it doesn't turn into another Togepi, aka Misty carrying it around everywhere, then I think everything will end up fine.

I'm not really worried, and I don't know why everyone brings it up. I doubt taking care of Happiny will weigh Brock's character down any more than taking care of Ash, Misty, May, Max, his Pokémon, particularly Bonsly, and at many times all the other characters' Pokémon too. :p

Speaking of carrying it everywhere, that reminds me... I'm really hoping for an Amity Square episode. Every twerp's got at least one Pokémon for Amity Square - in Dawn's case, two! :D

It's egg syndrome. No one wants it for another 200 episodes! ;p

Again, Misty shouldn't have gotten Togepi in the first place. This is Brock we're talking about - caretaking is already a major part of his character, isn't it?

which would be great, considering Hapinasu never had a showcase since its debut way back in Jouto... and it wasn't a very positive showcase, neither. While I agree with most people that Rocket characterization is great, and this was no exception, they made the Pokemon itself look like shit (another failure of Jouto showcasing -_-). Aside from not even battling, it seemed inferior to its previous form by trying, and failing, to do stuff we've seen said previous form do numerous times in the anime (did I mention that the anti-emphasis on evolution, which was very prominent in the early days, pisses me off? I know both evolved and unevolved Pokemon have their advantages, particularly in aesthetics, but I hate seeing evolved Pokemon being outright upstaged in some bullshit cliched "little guy triumphs" or "power isn't everything" stories, as if evolution were a flaw. They had the right idea with that B-Button group, presenting not evolving Pokemon as a mere alternative simply because you like a certain species, which works considering the player has that option in the games). Given, we've seen in a flashback that this particular specimen was incompetent even as a Lucky, but the point remains that we've yet to see a more competent Hapinasu appear thus far (or any Hapinasu, really).

Yes, too true. I don't think Blissey necessary got a bad cameo then, but the fact remains that it hasn't really gotten much since. Chansey is nice, but we see it all the time; Blissey is awesome and truly special, even more than Chansey. And let's be honest, the line does fit Brock quite well, probably more than any other character, even if it is excessively pink and girly. (He's got the pink apron, what'd bother him about a pink Pokémon?)

Heck, evolving it all the way into Blissey would be pretty good promotion for that possible G/S/C remake too =P
