Or maybe it's just me?
I mean, yes, I've been looking forward to this moment for a very significant amout of time (500 episodes! It took them 500 episodes to give the breeder an egg! *rant rave usual blah*) and now that it's here... well, is it just me, or are they handling it differently than before?
Brock's been carrying it around in his arms instead of that weird incubator jar. It still has a tendancy to disappear for major lengths of the episode, but we got a major focus at the start of the Buizel episode, and I'm seeing screenshots from the Lucian episode with him holding it the same way. And then, on that same note, there's the rather infamous moan he made at the start of the Buizel episode out of pure happiness. There's the editing of it into the intro and ending, which is something completely new, I believe. And in a very notable way:
Spotlighted much?
And if the "explosive birth" episode is Happiny hatching, as people expect, then it sounds like its hatching will also be a very significant episode, possibly made into the biggest deal since Togepi hatched, maybe. (Well, I mean, Eevee hatched at the end of a special episode, but the focus of the episode was really more about May and Meowth traveling through time and spreading warm fuzzy holiday feelings to the audience or something.) The fact that it references a movie title alone is nothing to bat an eye at...
Is it intentional, maybe? I mean, if they're making this a bigger deal on purpose, there's any number of reasons why. Even just advertising. (I swear, if they spotlighted that egg anymore, they could make and sell plushies of it and people wouldn't think it was odd... actually, reversable plushies of different baby Pokémon and their eggs could be kind of cool.)
Personally, I'm just really happy to see it, because - well, this is Brock, and it couldn't be any more in-character for him. It may or may not be intentional, but it couldn't make more sense in my mind.
They had the right idea back when they had him taking care of Togepi's egg, and then... they had it latch onto Misty as its mother, which led to all sorts of people blaming it for her dampened character during Johto. Then Ash got his own eggs, which were both kind of interesting but hatched almost immediately and were more important as Pokémon than as eggs, I'd say... then eggs got ignored until May got a pair in Battle Frontier, one of which was a movie plot, and were still... well, sort of a bigger deal, possibly because she's typically girly and does the contests and so baby Pokémon kind of fit, but... still, it seemed like it was more the Pokémon afterwards that was the big deal. Manaphy had a bit more focus on the egg, but that's really promotional tie-in, isn't it?
And now Brock has one, and it's a bigger deal. Which I really hope was intentional. He's the breeder, the caretaker, the one who knows exactly how to treat a baby Pokémon well and raise it to be a strong, loyal, mature Pokémon (as we've definitely seen with Bonsly into Sudowoodo).
I guess it could just be the writing's been getting better, though...
...
Am I thinking about this too much? I can't help it. On top of all my Brock fangirldom, I like eggs. ^^o
