Rules Bulbagarden Forum Rules (Last Updated: September 25, 2024)

Why was my thread about my roleplay server removed? I can't find anything in the rules that says it wouldn't be allowed- But I might not be looking hard enough.

A staff member should reach out to you shortly in regards to your thread.

Question, if I was sharing my experiments with sort of AI, but said "AI" was a paper based set of rules, could I say the rules or since the rules are the AI would that qualify as sharing the AI itself. I am asking, because I might make a blog with my AI experiments(which, just to let any that dont like AI know, are slightly more ethical then current ones), but want to know if I can explain the rules of how it works or just the results.

Is this taking so long to answer because I phrased the question wierd, it is very hard to decide, or some other reason

Hiya, apologies for the wait getting to this. Thank you for your patience.

I apologize as we’re not entirely sure what your “AI experiments” entails, however, all manner of sharing AI processes is disallowed on the forum. While AI discussion is allowed, sharing AI training processes and AI practice methods is not.

That said, from what I am gathering of your statement (and please, feel free to correct me if I am wrong), is what you are describing does not sound like a process that truly involves artificial intelligence. If it does not involve AI scripting, I strongly advise you not to define it as ‘AI’ or such moving forward, as talking of training an AI here could make many users uncomfortable.

That said, whatever type of system you are training (as we do not know and can only assume it does fall under AI) is not allowed.

By current definition, not AI. I call it AI because it can learn, but it is paper based and only trained on my stuff. I only call it AI because I have no other words for it, and also represents my dream of what AI should be. I call it AI because I got my definition from a book written in the 90's. So, I am pretty sure it doesnt involve AI by modern day definition, so you say if I am correct I can use it as long as I dont call it AI, what do i call it? I have no other name for it, though I know it involves no scripting or anything like that, so I doubt its AI by the definition that is banned.

It falls under AI by a definition made decades ago, but "training" and "AI scripting" dont apply. But the only description or name I can make other then AI is "paper based adaptive evolutionary system". This is various bits of 90's AI research i found interesting and adapted it to paper. I will for now, just post the least AI similar part of that, a artificial life simulator, while I wait for a response. So you can see and decide if you call it AI, putting in spoilers a few of my systems
1. Alphabetized crude chatbot: have list in alphabetical order, the alphabetized column has inputs, the other has outputs. When a volunteer says something, I match up what they said to a input and give the output for that. Then, after they respond, I create a new entry with my last output as a input and the humans response as the output.

2. The evolutionary algorithms: this has so many I'll just give the in general way this works. Have a list of things. I will rate them using some method. The two highest ranking ones stay alive, and some more ones are created by combining the winners together with some randomizatiom.

3. The predictor: this one uses a lot of my own brain, so is less like a intelligent rule set so much as limitations on my own brain. I currently am testing this on my stories. Has a list of if-then statements. I put a paragraph through and see if any of the if parts of the statement apply,if true i add that to a list of predictions of the future of the story. Then I look at the current list of predictions and if any have been proven wrong by this paragraph, and if so figure out why ane make a new rule that makes the prediction correct

By the pure and old definition, these are AI. But the definition has been corrupted in modern times, so what i do is only AI if your nerdy enough to use the true definition.

My usage of AI I think has a similar story to the usage of the word hacker. Among programmers, or at least the ones I know, the definition is "good programmer", but among most people the meaning has become corrupted. I use the true definition of AI, but these rules I think mean the corrupted modern meaning. But if I can find another word to use, I will stop calling this AI

Sorry for giving several posts of AI history/definition/reasons my stuff probably isnt the banned AI.

Actually, I might just have found a nme to call it. Are you OK with "evolutionary system"?

Yes, this works perfectly, and because your process does not involve any actual AI and data scraping, feel free to share it in your blog. Thank you for clearing this up and being upfront about your project!

Just going to say, its not that that my stuff isnt Ai, what you've banned is the thing that technically isnt actually AI. By technical definition chat GPT and stuff is not real AI. But that doesnt matter, just dropping a little fun fact

what counts as irrelevant, and where can I post my own threads that just talk about pokemon related things?

what counts as irrelevant
Extremely simplified, anything that isn't on-topic for a thread or with the way a thread's conversation is going. You're of course welcome to try and turn a conversational thread to a new topic, for instance, but if it doesn't take you may just be out of luck.

and where can I post my own threads that just talk about pokemon related things?
It depends! If it's about the games, it'd be in our Pokémon Gaming Discussion section, about the anime, it'd be in our PokéAni area, if it's about general Pokémon things, it'd be in the General Pokémon section, et cetera! If you don't have a specific flavor of media in mind, BulbaBlogs may be the best to put thoughts down.

I am considering making a Bet Your Avatar Thread about whether or not any of the XY rivals (Shauna, Tierno and Trevor) will return in Legends Z-A. Basically people would reply to the thread betting on whether or not this will occur with some sort of stupid image attached, and if their bet fails they have to change their pfp to the image for some length of time I would specify in the OP, most likely a month.

Does this premise violate any forum rules? If not, where would I post it?
