Welcome to the first round of Bulbagarden Idol 3.0!

I will be the host of the competition. I hope all of you are looking forward to a fun 5 rounds!

Things will work similar to last year’s competition, as there will be a new round every week. The contestants will have five days from the start of the round to send in their entry.

IMPORTANT! Contestants will send their entries directly to me through PM this year. This is different from last year. At the end of 5 days, I will post all entries at once. Voters can then critique and comment on each entry. They will also gather in a quick topic and decide on a winner for the week. I will send the QT link to the voters at the end of Round 1. Voters will have two days to submit their vote.

Let’s meet some of our contestants:

Aestivate

Hello, I'm Aestivate.

I'm 19 years old, and I've done this before, sup `-`

Music keeps me sane. My life is pretty stressful and one of the only things that keeps me together are dropped beats and chord progressions. Singing is the only way I can fully communicate and convey how I'm feeling.

I've never had professional lessons (ALTHOUGH I'LL BE TAKING A SEMESTER OF VOCAL LESSONS WHEN UNI STARTS UP AGAIN IN SEMESTER AND I'M SO EXCITED LSKJFLSJF) but I've been taking music lessons since I was like... 7.

Bulba Idol is fun and rewarding and gives me the excuse to record poorly performed covers. Yay.

Buoy

Hello, everyone. I'm Buoy (or Bwee, as some people LOVE calling me), and I'm fifteen years old. I currently live in Ireland -- no, I'm not ginger or obsessed with potatoes. I was coerced into this competition by part of the Media Menagerie staff. I'm not sure why I like to sing... I just do. I was inspired by myself, I guess. I suppose I just picked it up one day and thought I could do it more often, so I tend to just sing whenever my mind wanders. I don't, however, hold any responsibility for the bleeding of ears or extreme nausea. Also, I'm apparently meant to answer some "What do you expect from Bulba Idol?" question. Well, the answer is that I expect fun. Cheesy answer for a weird question, y/n?

THX 4 REDING

Central African Republic*

Um, hi. I'm PichuBoy/CAR*. Bear with me while I struggle through this!

I've been singing since I was about 4 years old when someone overheard me singing to myself and gathered loads of people around to listen to me. I was quickly snapped up by the music teacher at the school and had singing and piano lessons (although I hated the piano lessons as they dug into my lunchtime and gave them up - biggest regret of my life so far!) 7 singing Grades later and here I am, preparing for my 8th. :D

I sing because it makes me happy [/cliché], and so I want to use it to make others happy. It's a kinda selfish reason mixed with a selfless one, but I'm fortunate enough not to have some form of sob story as to why I sing.

I expect to be forced to sing a song/genre that I'd never dream of before. Expand my diversity, as it were. :3

So, yeah. Enjoy the contest and good luck to all the other competitors. ^_^

Form11ess 5hot

Hiya! This is Form11ess 5hot - a.k.a., Destiny Queen. I signed up as a participant this time and I do hope to have lots of fun!!

Why do you like to sing? or What/who inspires you to sing?

- I enjoy listening to a lot of music. Any song that makes my ears delightful is my source of inspiration and love. From world-famous pop singers to nico nico douga internet singers, anyone I like is my idol XDD

How long have you been singing? (and any training that you have)

- I don't have any professional experience, but I loved singing for a long time.

What do you expect from Bulba Idol?

- FUN!! XDD I joined up cuz this looked like fun, and I certainly hope this turns out to be a great experience for us all!! This is my first time letting people across the globe hear my voice, so I'm pretty excited.

Let's all have a wonderful time!!

Gym Leader Brock

Hey everyone, I'm Croag, (or Emily... feel free to call me that) and I live in London! As soon as I knew Bulba Idol was taking place this year, I've been excited to sign up. I missed the deadline last year so I didn't get to participate - I'm really glad I've been able to this time. I enjoy singing just because it's a fun thing to do in my opinion and puts me in a better mood; most of the time I do it without realising, as I usually just have music on in the background all the time. I guess I just don't like silence! I've been singing for as long as I can remember, really. I don't have any kind of professional training since I don't like singing in front of people by myself. Despite that, I have performed in several musical related things both in and out of school, which have always been really fun. I'm hoping from Bulba Idol this year I'll not only have fun, but be able to try different types of music that I wouldn't normally do.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for the chance to enter!

Gym Leader Byron

Heyo there. To kick things off I don't really have much inspiration or love for singing. I don't even listen to music that much or often, not really a melodic person to be honest. I've been singing for uh.....since never. I expect a singing competition between eleven members of the forum who will show off their pipes of gold. While I flail around like a fish the whole time. I was in the last Bulba Idol, however at the time I couldn't really record or post my songs too often because of a variety of reasons that kept me from doing so.(Too little time, no microphone, crap laptop, etc.) So, yeah I'm back this year to hopefully get all my songs in for all categories and make other people feel good just have some good ol' singing time I guess. So, yeah. Like Human said, "It's Singing Time". Let's have a grand ol' time, I look forward to hearing the other contestants' singing as well as the voters' thoughts on the various entries.

Human

Bongu everyone!(Good day in Maltese :p) I'm a 15 year old Maltese teenager coming from the land of honey. I followed the 2 previous BulbaIdols and now that I've joined the site I'll finally be competing.

Why do you like to sing?

Every style! Singing is a form of expression. Certain styles can help express singers' expressions better than others.

How long have you been singing? (and any training that you have)

I took some drama classes a few years ago that required some singing talent.

What do you expect from Bulba Idol?

A fun experience! I believe that winning isn't everything. Knowing that, I'm never disappointed whenever I lose. The only reward I need from this competition is happiness!

ShinyRoxas

Hello everyone im new to these forums and singing competitions so bear with me on this ^^ but heres a little bit about me:

I like to sing because it lets me express myself how I couldnt any other way. I have been singing for as long as i can remember so i'd say about 13 years, and ive been playing guitar for about 4 years. I expect that Bulba Idol will be a very fun experience and will give me more confidence in my singing and playing ;D!

Skyla

Why do you like to sing? or What/who inspires you to sing?

I love almost all types of music. Any music that inspires, encourages, or just flat out makes me happy listening to it is good enough for me.

How long have you been singing? (and any training that you have)

I've been singing since I was around seven years old. I was in the local city-wide choir when I was ten years old. I haven't really had any professional training though.

What do you expect from Bulba Idol?

To have fun mostly. I also hope to slowly improve throughout this competition and try to be a better singer. I hope everyone has a good time in this competition and that it will be a huge success. :)

TheMissingno.

Hello good people of Bulbagarden. My name is TheMissingno., and as you may or may not know, I am a wizard. I like to sing because it makes me feel good. It's scientifically proven (I think), but even if it were not, I'd still do it anyway because it's fun. There is really no time when I sat down and was like "okay, I'm going to start singing now," but I started playing in bands when I was like 16 and none of them ever really asked me to not sing, so I guess we can call that my starting time. Under that assumption, it's been about 7 years since I'm 23 years old now. I have no training of any kind. What do I expect from Bulba Idol? Well honestly, to lose. But it'll be a lot of fun anyway! =)

The Puppetmaster

Hello, I'm The Puppetmaster. I love singing because it's a talent I've had since I was young, and I believe it's the perfect method for me to express myself. I'm inspired to sing because I hope to one day affect people with what I have to say; my favorite band, Flyleaf, inspires me to do so, and famous singers such as Florence Welch, Fiona Apple, and Regina Spektor motivate me to improve my abilities. I've been singing since I was little, but I only became serious about it about three years ago when I joined my school's choir (though I've wanted to become a professional singer since I was about eleven). I plan to major in some facet of music (hopefully music business) in college. I expect lots of fun out of Bulba Idol, and I like to think of it as a learning experience for the singers; hearing critique from others always helps, and I definitely improved from last year's competition (big thanks to judge @Hallowheart; from last year). Good luck, everybody~

Umeko

Hi everyone! I'm Umeko, and I'm 25 years old. I like to sing just for fun - I'm not looking to impress anyone, I just like to try my hand at songs that make me happy. I've been singing since I was very young, and I guess my inspiration mostly comes from my mom, who would often sing to me as a child. I don't have any voice training, apart from being in chorus in middle school, which was a long time ago. I've entered Bulba Idol just to have fun, and hopefully get some helpful advice on where I can improve! I hope I don't suck too bad, and good luck to all my fellow contestants!

Our first round’s theme is: Contemporary Songs

Songs must be no older than the year 2007.

All entries must be sent to me by Friday July 6th, 6:00 pm EST.

You will have a longer first round than the other rounds.

Contestants must claim a song by posting the name and artist of the song in this thread. Once a song has been claimed, no one else can sing it. I highly recommend that you claim a song asap.

Good luck everyone!
