Consider the Monobook background image.

We should make a similar one, with a more news-oriented theme.

One possible idea is to create a front page using past Bulbanews articles, print it, wrap it around some other newspaper, and photograph that.

Pay careful attention to the original. It is subdued, subtle and simple - we're trying to keep that. The background does not, and indeed, should not, stand out.

If you're up for making that, go ahead. Just make the final image light enough so that it doesn't make the whole website look annoyingly busy.

The problem with making a news-themed subdued watermark is that news itself is not subdued in the slightest. It usually makes a point of being attention-grabbing and noisy. Consider how a newspaper would look on the page...not nearly as subtle as the current watermark, don't you think? In fact, it'd make the page look a lot noisier than a Bulbasaur reporter.

I think something more connected to the Bulbasaur and less to the news might make a better watermark. Leaves, perhaps?

On the same note, if it were something that could also be used on the Bulbapedia, it might help to keep the two looking connected. Or are you intentionally trying to give Bulbanews a different look from Bulbapedia?

To be honest, I don't think many people care, and even fewer notice what the background is.

It kinda looks like Bulbasaur's bulb on the left...

But I think we should see some examples and see if they work before making a decision.
