[Bulbanews] Kids' WB! to survive UPN merger: Pokémon (not) likely to air on the CW

Actually this news article is completely WRONG.

http://www.mediaweek.com/mw/news/networktv/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002384275

Betsy McGowen, senior vp and general manager of Kids WB! on CW, the same position she held when the block aired on the WB, said the decision to keep the Kids WB! name after the network ceases to exist was made after surveys showed that the name scored high in recognition among kids 6-11. “With CBS changing to DIC-produced kids programming and NBC dropping Discovery on Saturday mornings, we felt it would be best to keep the name consistent,” said McGowen.
The focus of the block will be boys 6-11, but McGowen said many of the shows have elements that appeal to girls, too. The decision to drop Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! was based on soft ratings and a desire to bring in more Warner Bros. Animation shows that lets the network and the kids block more easily extend the brand with in-house digital rights. “We are still developing with outside producers, but we are working more closely with Warner Bros. Animation,” McGowen said.

Pokemon USA is still dubbing Season 9, so it's probably going to air SOMEWHERE.

They wouldn't waste their time dubbing the next season if it wasn't going to air on TV.

It's fricking Pokemon, somebody's going to pick it up.

In 2006? Even CN kicked Pokemon off the block when they aired the Master Quest reruns on weekends.

The only other big network that I can think of that does anime on Saturdays is Fox (FoxBox). Maybe Cartoonnetwork?

"Gone will be longtime Kids WB! staples Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, both which have been falling steadily in the ratings."

"Pokemon at 10:00 a.m. ET captured the sweep as the #1 broadcast program among the Saturday morning competition in Kids 6-11 (2.5/10, tied with Xiaolin Showdown), Boys 2-11 (2.8/11) and Boys 6-11 (3.6/15, tied with Xiaolin Showdown). The program also took the #2 Saturday morning broadcast program spot among Kids 2-11 (2.1/8), Tweens 9-14 (2.4/12) and Males Tweens 9-14 (3.4/16)."

Yeah blame it on the ratings. They are SO terrible. [/sarcasm]

Crap. I don't have cable, so I'm really screwed now.

I sincerely doubt Fox will run it, though, given their deal with you-know-who. Letters?

EDIT: There's a chance ABC could pick it up. They picked up Power Rangers after Fox dropped it (which, ironically, resulted from said you-know-who's deal with Fox). Ironic, really, given B.P., I watched ABC's Saturday morning block religiously. Honestly, I'm guessing (hoping) PUSA will want to run the show on a standard, non cable network since that way they'll have a chance to get as many viewers as possible. Course, if the new VAs suck, I suppose I'll miss nothing if it *does* hit cable...

EDIT AGAIN: Actually, it's extremely likely, considering Miramax, a subsidiary of Disney, owner of ABC, releases the movies anyway. Unless PUSA decides to end business with them.

WHAT!?

Noooooo!

Not more bad news...... :-(

This is terrible!!!!

And it doesn't even make any sense.

I mean, Pokemon has been airing on Kids WB ever since it first start airing. And I don't understand why they'd do that to us (killing the weekday block for Pokemon was one thing, but killing the Saturday morning episodes is another thing and that's completely rediculous!).

It's just not fair.

And I don't know about you guys, but I don't really think Cartoon Network would be willing to pick up Pokemon again. I just don't think they would do it. I mean, they stopped airing Master Quest (one of the BEST seasons, in my opinion). So to stop airing that particular season, they must've had a pretty good reason for doing that.

Although, if for some odd reason Cartoon Network doesn't pick up Pokemon, I don't know who would.

Actually I think it launched on Fox and promptly moved to Kid's WB. No surprise, though, with all the changes in WB's programming schedule.

Well, yeah, I meant to say that, other than the time that Pokemon was on Fox, it's otherwise been on KidsWB ever since it started.

I just didn't know how to word that sentence...... ^^o

When Pokemon first came out, it was in syndacation. The Fox network in Pittsburgh, Fox 53, used to air it at 7:00 in the morning.

So, since Kids CW won't be showing Pokemon, what station will? I want to be able to still see the series darn it!

Well, I just posted a speculation thread about this in the Pokemon Anime forum......

It's called, "Worrying about the dub".

Sunain, why don't you or someone else change that story to say that the show won't be on WB anymore?

It won't be on Fox unless Fox changes its format, because FoxBox is run by 4Kids. If Time Warner, the owner of Kids' WB!, still has the rights to the show, it could go on any Time Warner network. That includes Cartoon Network. Also, UPN is owned by Viacom, so it could go on CBS or Nickelodeon.

it definetly wont air on fox since now there lineup is owned by 4kids. it probably will air on cartoon network (i dont have cable). This also might be just the fall scedule which means they might bring pokemon back later in the year.Or it might be during the pillowhead hour as one of the educational programming.

I doubt they would show it on Cartoon Network seeing it's Cable, and...yeah it's just never gone to a cable network before. (For new episodes anyway)

I could see it going to CBS seeing they show a lot of programs that are from other stations as well. (Such as the Nickelodeon shows)

it definately wont air on cbs because they are going to have a dic lineup

I suppose if it *does* end up on cable, I could find a willing member of this forum to send me burnt DVDs of eps/get the grandparents to tape it... Still, I'm going along with my ABC theory for now, based on how Miramax has the movie rights anyway, and they're owned by Disney (owners of ABC). I don't see why PUSA would allow a cable network to pick it up... that severely limits the number of viewers, and that's the last thing they want. Although I doubt ratings is really the reason WB dropped it, since it's one of their highest rated shows... my suspicion is that they're realizing what all us SOVA members do and PUSA apparently hasn't yet, that the new VAs will have a negative impact. Something tells me as soon as they learned of the VA change, they decided to back off.

I suppose it is possible that the ratings drop is the one predicted when some people turn off after hearing the new VAs. (Couldn't they leave their final decision until after Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon?)

As has been said (on possibly another thread) this won't affect other English-language airings, so I'll get back to seeing when Cartoon Network UK are going to give us the Grand Festival.
