Ash's Bulbasaur is one of his strongest Pokemon, and it's not even evolved. In fact, it's on the same tier as Sceptile and Torterra, despite not evolving yet.

I say this, because Bulbasaur took down a Meganium (well to a draw) after defeating a Magneton previously. That's a non-fresh Bulbasaur vs a Fresh Meganium, which was a draw.

Then you have Bulbasaur in Battle Frontier, where it defeated Dusclops (who beat Charizard) and then defeated a Solrock. (well to a draw)

These are only some of the battles, but the fact is, Bulbasaur usually wins his matches. Thus, does that make him overpowered?

Its one of his original Pokemon that lasted through the series past the 6th Gym in Johto, (god did Bulbasaur last a long time!), so its not surprising.

Sceptile and Torterra are stronger in brute strength, but Bulbasaur is powerful.

Eh, his power is plot driven so it's not really fair to call him overpowered.

Seriously this. Actually, doing a rewatch of Kanto and OI, Bulbasaur is not that strong Even during the Johto League, Bayleef got more moments than Bulbasaur. But then, flashforward to the end of the BF and Bulbasaur opens a can whoop-ass in the Brandon match...

Power levels fluctuate to serve plot, so...

Bulbasaur often defeats pokemon who have a severe type advantage against it. Again, most of these scuffles are plot-driven.
You can't really say that Bulbasaur is *overpowered*, but the anime surely places it on a much higher standard of power than the majority of Ash's other pokemon.

I wouldn't say that Bulbasaur is "overpowered." I'd say that it's been able to hold its own in battle more easily. That, and Ash has been taking pretty good care of it (like his other Pokemon).

You can't really say he is overpowered but more that he was over-used. He was simply OU compared to Ash's other pokemon(Par Charizard). That and the plot he was used to fill.

I don't see how you can say any of Ash's Kanto Pokemon are over powered. He was given 6 out of the 8 badges. Of course Bulbasuar had a stubborn streak going, and of course all stubborn pokemon are seen as over powered Charizard, Sceptile, Buizel, Gible? etc.

Most likely we'll see Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charizard at the end of DP.

Yeah... no. We haven't seen Squirtle in forever and I doubt the others will battle. Cameo maybe, but not a battle.

Haven't seen Squirtle in forever?

Bulbasaur/Squirtle/Charizard's last appearance was all in the same episode.

Bulbasaur, probably, he is the guy who runs things for Ash's guys at Oak's.

Charizard? As an Elite Four challange sounds unlikely and he is busy with doing things at Charrific Valley, like being the leader, randomly shooting fireballs and messing up with Charla. Yes, he can fly, but which one would you prefer, staying with the chick or welcoming your midget trainer?

Squirtle? Unless Torkoal burns the Pallet Town I doubt it. But guy has epic shades, he can randomly pop up from anywhere.

This would require me to do a very in-depth analysis of Bulba's battle record, which would take forever. To tell the truth, all of Ash's first gen pokes seem to be overpowered, barring the 30 Tauros which who knows which one of those 30 he uses at any given time, so it would be impossible to judge them. I think it's because they've been with him for so long, and who knows if the pokes are training off screen or not. But yeah, ultimately, how well a poke does is dictated by the writers' whims. There is no rhyme or reason to it other than that is what they wanted to happen.

The writers simply wanted to portray Ash's Kanto starters as strong, tiny titans with godly power.

This is why despite Sceptile and Torterra being fully evolved, Bulbasaur can still stand toe to toe with them.

I dont think Bulbasaur has been shown as overpowered. I mean he got beaten by a bellsprout in the league, he was the only one of Ash's pokemon to not get a win in Ash's battle with Drake. Bulbasaur wasnt shown has really strong until the match with Brandon.

Well, I also realize that we would need to define "overpowered". Many would agree Pika is overpowered. He can take down a lot of pokes with little effort, and has even defeated a legend. However, especially in DP, he has had a few times which he has met his match and was even defeated. All logic would dictate that Pika should be nearly unstoppable by now. Is he? If the anime has anything to say about it, not in the slightest. I don't even need to know Pika's battle record to know he is far from being perfect, but he is definitely overused. I think the definition here is that he has done quite a lot of things we would find to be impossible for a Pika to do. That kind of definition does apply to Bulba as well, but I'm not as familiar with his run because my memory is fuzzy.

i think he is overpowered and y no evlovle look at his turtwig now a tortera

bulba and pika are lv. 1,000 by now, Ash's dad must work in a rare candy factory.

If you think these normally pathetic pokémon are overpowered now, imagine if ash met the move tutor for sesmic toss......
or a pokémon with a 1hko....
