I'm putting this in the soap box becaue I'm going to get very political over this.

This is disgusting, absolutely disgusting. For Bush to veto a bill of that would do so much good and is so popular is an outrage.

And it's not like they're calling for an income tax hike. They want to raise the tobacco tax, a vice tax. Oh my God. People will have to pay $.69 more for a pack of cigarettes to feed their addiction? How inhumane?

Where's your compassionate conservatism? Where's your christian values? Have you forgotten that Jesus Christ Himself said "what you do to the least of you you do to me"? And the children are the least of us and in the most need of our help and support. They are our future damnit.

But Bush actually told the truth for once (the world really is coming to an end). He said [bush]I believe in private medicine[/bush]. There it is. This was based pure on corporate greed. Corporations should be making money off these children instead of them government providing for them without profit. And their families can't afford it, they're just shit outta luck.

And with that same pen he wants to sign billions to the war in Iraq where our people are getting killed. Culture of Life my ass.

Bush is SUCH an idiot! Seriously! He's THE reason why I'm COMMUNIST!

It makes me glad I live in Canada, where we have free healthcare. Sure it comes out of the taxpayers wallets, but it's much preferable (to me) for everyone to have access to healthcare whenever they need it.

I was wondering, are the waiting periods in Canada as bad of the media here claims. I know my mother spouts these horror stories about people dying on waiting lists and stuff.

I wasn't pleased with either side, since the Democrats basically hid behind "help the children" to ram in a major increase, but it's both reprehensible to jeopardize the needy children by vetoing this and politically damaging.

I'm completely with you, The Big Al. Few could've put it any better.

This is just disgusting.

And some people wonder why I would hate to have a kid.

If you read the article they aren't calling for raising income taxes. They're calling for a vice tax increase which I'm all for. You want to smoke like a chimney, you should have to pay for it. You want to drink like a fish, you should have to pay for it. I think prositution and pot should be legal too so we can place vice taxes on that.

But that's an arguement for a different thread.

And this is an area that has to increase. The uninsured is a growing populatin in this country. If we can at least provide for the children we should do it.

I can't stand this bastard. He vetoed a bill to increase funding for a federally funded state managed healthcare program for uninsured children. He is denying tons of America's kids healthcare while pushing for funding for a war in Iraq that we cannot win. Funding healthcare for uninsured children is more important than funding a war that we cannot win. I have a Godson that if it weren't for SCHIP, his parents wouldn't of been able to pay the hospital bill for the severe allergic reaction to peanuts that he had in May, 2007. I can't wait until this bastard is out of office. So what if people will have to pay more for a pack of stinkin cigarettes to feed their addiction. My Aunt Gert always called cigarettes cancer sticks because they cause lung cancer. Enough said.

Yes, the waiting periods are pretty bad but I think thats more down to a severe lack of doctors and nurses (who have all gone south of the border). I'm not sure about other provincial/territorial governments, but I know that the current Ontario government is trying to reduce wait times (although they may be out of power in 6 days when we have the election).

Perhaps the U.S. adobting single payer would help both our countries healthcare systems. Though most socialized plans I've seen concentrate on preventing people from getting sick which might help.

I don't know why nurses would come here. They're treated like shit in the states.

I assume because they are treated worse in Canada (or paid worse).

Yeah, I think their motivation is financial. One of the troubles that we have at the moment, which Big Al alluded to, is that we don't exactly have "healthcare" at the moment. It's more of a "sickcare" if you know what I mean.

Yeah, America has "sickcare" too. It's because you can pump more money out of people when they need to take perscription drugs spend time in hospitals than them going in for check ups and getting their shots.

I honestly believe health insurance for profit is a farce. Why should someone make money off my needing medical care when they aren't my doctor or provide the goods and services needed for that medical care.

God, I am so glad I live in Australia. Sure, we have our problems but this is bloody ridiculous
I hope Bush gets genital herpes

I'd laugh my ass off if it came out that Bush was sleeping around. Too bad he probably isn't.

I live in England and we are going backwards.

Bevin's baby's getting shat on by 'New' Labour, our free healthcare system (the second best in the world) is being sold off to the private sector, in many cases to the very people that are part of the problem in America.

well if you want to make the situation better, do something about it. Im tired of people always saying people cant make a difference!
never underestimate stupid people in large numbers.

Lets see, about Bush vetoeing this bill, I say it's a good thing. The democrats were trying to sneak in the beginning of something that is bigger and worse for the country. Plus, government should not be supporting children anyway. Whenever government gets involved, they make the situation worse. If we did away with Insurance alltogether and forced doctors to compete for your business, you watch how fast and low the price would go.

So National Healthcare in any form would be a disaster. The government's job is to protect the people from danger. So their place is in protecting the borders and protecting America against terrorists. They have no place trying to run healthcare.

Yes, obviously. And THAT'S why they Republicans WERE ALSO BACKING IT. Because the Democrats have them under their sway now. Except when it comes to EVERY OTHER ISSUE.

Plus, government should not be supporting children anyway. Whenever government gets involved, they make the situation worse.

I'll make sure to tell that to all of the abused children who, thanks to the government, were removed from homes before they were beaten to death.

If we did away with Insurance alltogether and forced doctors to compete for your business, you watch how fast and low the price would go.

Sure. We then put thousands of insurance workers out of a job, but hey, let's test your theory. I'm sure the increased number of people on welfare (who are busy spending their money on silly things like food and basic clothing and housing) won't be big effect.

So...an INTERNAL threat, like cancer isn't, in fact, a threat? Or the flu? How about government-sponsored immunizations of things like tuberculosis and polio? Hey, we aren't being blown up by terrorists, but all of our kids have muscle and lung problems. Seems like, at best, a lateral move.

The classic neo-con arguement. The government is only good for the military.

Yes, sickness and injuries kills and harm more Americans every year then terrorists and people crossing the borders. If anything, that last statement contradicted itself.
