So, since I think 8-9 monthes is wayyyyy to long to wait for HG SS, I want the japanese ones. However, I do not know japanese. So I ask you, how should I play the game? Should I play mindlessly but don't to spend time any on translating, or should I translate which'll probably take a long time? And if I do translate, how should I do it?

You'll only be waiting 6-7 months really.

And patience > mindless playing.

I MYSELF ACTUALLY READ NPC DIALOGUE D8.

You don't really need to know the full language to play. a few words like boy girl yes no (and pokemon names) is all you need...
google "katakana chart" this chart will help with reading pokemon names. then when you have the pokemon name like say, naetoru, then you can search it and the english name will pop up.. and a lot of the japanese names are the same as the english. all the names of characters and the names of places are in this style as well. plus, if you know the basic story then that helps as well...

Bulbapedia has two very important articles that will help anyone playing a Pokemon game in Japanese:

List of Japanese Pokemon names

and

List of Attacks in Other Languages

Now, I have imported several Japanese games...Rockman and Pokemon mostly. I barely know Japanese...just a few words. You shouldn't be intimidated about playing Heart Gold and Soul Silver in Japanese anyway, they're remakes...so you should already know what to do.

Yes, the only drawbacks of having a japanese game in the U.S. or anywhere else is that the Japanese game cannot connect to the wii and that you cant understand the npc's....

There will be walkthroughs on the Internet within days of the games being released. Guaranteed.

And even if there aren't...these are the same games, more or less, that came out ten years ago. Sure, there will be a few new things here and there, but for the most part, anyone who's played Pokemon Gold and Silver in English will know exactly what's going on in HG SS regardless of his or her ability to understand Japanese.

You can also give your pokemon nicknames with English letters in them, so just rename each pokemon you catch so you'll be able to find them easier when you go into your PC storage box.

Assuming they didn't change a lot, it will probably be the same as FireRed and LeafGreen which were the same as Red and Green to me. So you're pretty much right. And there are probably around 10 YouTube people who will be doing the walk throughs so yeah.

But I *am* assuming that they won't change a lot.

90% of the spoilers for the games coming out this Saturday were revealed ten years ago :p

From what I've seen so far they only added the Pokelathon (sp) but there is probably more since Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza are obtainable.

If you just want to get the game and go though it, you can do that pretty easily.

However, if you really want to "play" the game (read the text, understand the plot, etc, etc) I suggest you just wait until the english (or whatever your native language may be ) release.

Trust me, it will be much more gratifying. If you just import it without any Japanese skills it won't be nearly as fun.

However, if you still decide you want to play the game in Japanese, its pretty easy, know the Pokemon, and Attack names and you're set.
You'll probably want to learn the JP names of natures and what not as well.

And everything I mentioned is available on Bulbapedia.

...

Is it that hard to wait for the game to come out in a language you understand?

To bad we couldn't get this game leaked two months in advanced.

Or are you just saying that because om the anime they were in Johto.

I haven't touch the games since they came out, so I've all but completely forgotten the story... I'm getting the North American versions when they release.

Yeah I haven't played them in ages, so I wont be getting the japanese game as I would be lost. Plus I can see myself getting frutrated

Personally, I'm getting mine from Japan. I can't wait to play this game. Sure I won't know what I'm reading, but I know the basic plot from G/S anyway. No doubt I'll get stuck somewhere obvious for Japanese players, but I really really want this game.

Plus the language is kind of a novelty, and I'll get some new Pokedex entries in Japanese from trading.

One in Japanese and one in English. That way you get the best of both worlds. You get to play it now, and then you get to play it again in English. Win win situation.

that makes sense, but as for me, im getting the english heart gold. i want to learn to ead and understnad japanese but sinse that isnt possible right now i gotta wait..
