BW could keep everything canon, but it feels like a reboot.

Think about it. The similarities to gen 1 are so many, that it feels after 4 gen, they're going back to the basics, using Kanto as a base, and are going to work it from there.
-The E4 seems to be in the west. Only region to ever do that was Kanto. If its like starting from the beginning, who's to say that we won't be seeing Isshu next generation? Yes I am suggesting a Johto like next gen, but only because of the nature of these games.
-The most Pokemon we've ever gotten was 151 in a new gen, and that was the first gen. Now it seems we'll be getting just as many, seeing how its a general rumor among the many other general rumors confirmed. The Pokemon are also very similar, going back to basics, and looking just as simple.
-The legendary trio most likely has the Ice/Fire/Electric trio typing, just as we had so many moons ago, but lost come gen 3. The secondary legend trio might have other types, but having this first trio typing back in action just feels so...Kanto.
-The region, while feeling like it could be vast, seems small, and its back to Kanto standards. To be honest I do not find this bad, as it has enough variety and spice to it.
-Forgot the biggest one of all, the sense of duality and the return to colors. The duality theme hasn't been around since Gen 1, which is basically the only gen that had proper opposites, two sides of the coin. Now we have it again, and its bigger and more focused.

So yes, overall, I believe these games while keeping the series and all its canon intact, will feel fresh and new, and basic. Its going to likely return to its roots, and build on what it has already.

I fail to see the significance of these remarks. So BW may be be reboot, maybe not. Is that supposed to have an effect on anything?

(And I might add that I can not take you seriously with that avatar XP)

I'm just pointing out that if these similarities aren't coincidence, and it does indeed take this turn, we could be seeing returning themes for the next generations.

It has some similarities with Kanto but it doesn't feel like a reboot at all.

Just because they are breaking away from the norm and are adding new features, etc, doesn't make it a reboot.

I think it's just different. I guess it could be the new features... All of which, doesn't necessarily mean it is a reboot. Now, if we had no Gyms and no crime syndicate then yeah that would be considered a reboot.

Agreed. The biggest testament of how how different these games really are from their predecessors is whether or not the main story revolves around collecting badges. Junichi Masuda has said in the past that the company may choose to explore other options for the story provided that the focus on catching and training Pokémon is retained. In other words, they are not adverse to the idea, even though they have yet to put their creativity to the test.

While there should definitely be villains, I think that we could do without a silly name by which to label them. There don't need to be generic grunts that use a small pool of low-leveled Pokémon, either. In this case, the changes to the current formula are quite easy to pull off, and I doubt many people would complain.

Hard to say we're back to basics just from looking at pictures.

Almost all of what you're saying is based on speculation alone. :/ For all you know, the E4 will turn out to be up north, only 100 new Pokemon will be introduced, and the 3rd legendary won't have ice typing. Plus, what the heck is "Kanto standards?" It's hard to say the cities follow Kanto standards when the only city we've seen is an port town loaded with ridiculously tall skyscrapers. I also wouldn't say B/W is a "return" to colors - Monochrome is the very opposite, being the complete absence of color.

I'm not just going to up and say, "this is no reboot," because there really aren't enough facts present to say whether it is or isn't. You might be able to construct a better argument when two more of your theories turn fact, but as it is now, B/W seems like no reboot to me.

I don't get it, what's so cool about E4 being in the west. It's just one freaking point of the compass? D:

And I don't really feel any similarities with 1. and 5. generation and that's a good thing. Well, names of the games goes back to colors, but I must admit that those names also feel like some sort of an advertisement gimmick for me :P. Like "Just look, this's the revolutional generation of Pokémon! Feel the greatness of good old times!!1"

But those other examples just seems quite ridicilous :P.

I am still going for Dark for one, as it is black after all. I can see where your coming from, but it culd just be a big coincidince, or there is things we just don't know about. We we have a fuller picture we will know if this is true or not, but for now, I don't know.

We already know that Res is Dragon/Fire and Zek is Dragon/Electric though, so going for dark isn't exactly helping you.

I'd like to see a reboot from all the previous generations. Not a modern update to gen one but something totally new. Which is kind of what we're seeing.

All of the points you state are very good. But this map seems like the strangest map of them all and has nothing to do with ANY of the past maps. It's so strange. It reminds me of the GTA: VICE CITY map because its 3 chunks of land connected by bridges.

Routes went back to 1, and there are 3 starting trainers from a starting town going off to start their adventure and they all started off being friends. HELLLO REBOOT. Sort of, Kanto had no 3rd trainer, but the point is clear, things are getting recycled for a really clean slate.

seems like it. I suppose the timeline is now back to the kanto timeline.

Or perhaps, the Kanto timeline and everything in the past 4 gens are 10 years ago or something. This has to be some sort of separate canon era.

I don't see how this affects the timeline at all; at any given time period there are still two routes called Route 1. The only implication is that it would be confusing to have Isshu and Kanto in the same game; the other regions are unaffected (unless Isshu actually makes it to Route 26, which is doubtful).

Isshu should make it past 26, for Kanto had 28.

They should change it from the word "Route" then. There's lots of other words they can use: beat; course; line; road; round; track; trail. Lots.
