What do you think are going to be the major changes to the C-Gear? Do you think it will actually do something interesting in the sequels? From the artwork they look pretty much the same (although different colours) but will there be any cool add-ons? Like radio, TV, internet (not a real world internet, it already does that, I mean like a fictional internet thing) or maybe you can use the phone to call trainers for battle instead of the lame one-way function it had in B&W. Thoughts?

Re: Xtransceiver

The Pokegear and PokeNav were the only good ones for me. The Poketch had too much useless apps and the C-Gear (I think that's the actual watch's name and the Xtransceiver refers to one of its functions) barely had any ingame usage.

I say combine what PokeNav and Pokegear did. Put the Pal Pad on the C-Gear (given its mostly used for connection purposes anyway) and have the FC stuff set up like a profile similar to PokéNav's Trainer's Eye. I think that NPC's should also be able to contact you via Xtransceiver for rematches and maybe to give you items, and for them to have Xtransceiver art work similar to the BW protagonists, rival, and mother (hey, Pokemon Conquest manages all those cool artworks). They would also have a separate "Pal Pad" type entry with a profile as well. Hopefully this could incorporate all the gym leaders too.

Re: Xtransceiver

It was usually fun to get rematch calls on the Pokegear phone in Johto. The Xtransceiver is nicer than that because of the head and shoulders sprites of the ingame trainers talking to you.

After the main BW story, you never see those sprites again, and the Xtransceiver is just a function limited to those with certain DS models and companions wishing to use the same. The ability to call others ingame would have been a nice touch, and the IRL use would have simply been a bonus.

Re: Xtransceiver

The Pokegear and Pokenav were basically the same, the latter was basically a more advanced version of former, and the Pokegear from HG/SS was probably the best of the bunch with it's colorful schemes and various changes from the original G/S/C version and Pokenav to make it rather advanced, it was also very useful.

The Poketch was basically what could best be described as the cross between an iPhone and the original Game Boy, it was filled with useless apps that weren't necesarry (well, the calculator was needed to do the Hearthome Gym in D/P, but wasn't when the Gym was changed in Platinum), some of the apps were useful, (mainly the clock, the item finder, that one that checks the friendship levels of Pokemon, the map, and the day care viewer), but the rest were rather pointless and weren't needed at all, that and the fact that the apps were only available in a single color (green) made it feel less advanced than the Pokegear or Pokenav, it looked like an old 8-bit Game Boy.

The C-Gear and Xtransceiver were completely useless in-game, all the C-Gears functions were multiplayer exclusive, and as for the Xtransciever, it only did one way phone calls given to you in the games storyline, and after that, it was all multiplayer only and only worked on the DSi because of the camera within it, and with things like video cameras and webcams, it was pretty much pointless.

So it's highly unlikely that they are going to add anything to the C-Gear or Xtransciever, or at least in-game, but to multiplayer, yes they will...

Oh right, is is called the C-gear.

Sorry, I got them confused. I'm going to edit my post.

the fact that the apps were only available in a single color (green) made it feel less advanced than the Pokegear or Pokenav, it looked like an old 8-bit Game Boy.

There was an app to change the colour you know.

I really hope they combine the C-gear, Poketch, etc into one more useful machine.

And make it a menu option so the bottom screen can have useful things on it, like pokemon health, run toggle, map, etc and have a button to access menu for 'call trainers/rematch/full map/quick trade/quick battle/connect to internet/warp to that central forest place/calculator/friendship monitor/EV monitor/memo pad/sketch pad/etc' options.

What is more likely is that we will be stuck with the same C-gear that wastes the bottom screen 99% of the time. At least the Poketch had some decent apps!

Extralink mission and dream world are awesome that being said they could add some stuff like rematches radio etc etc

maybe give the USA some of the Europe/Japan exclusive C-Gear skins???? I WANT THAT CHARIZARD ONE!

I hope that it takes up only half of the touch screen, leaving the other half open to using a menu screen like on HGSS. I loved not having to press X to get to the menu

The Poketch was awesome. :< My favorite "gear" item. I hope the C-Gear can become more like the Poketch. The phone-feature for rematches is incredibly dumb. We need a VS Seeker instead.

I agree with turning C-gear into a key item or at least combining it with HG/SS-style menu. Besides from looking very nice it isn't an item we use very often.

And I don't think anyone ever needed or used Xtransciever. I hope they replace it with Vs.seeker/Pokeradar or anything else that would actually be useful.
