California legalized gay marriage

I thought the news said we still have to vote on it.

Either way I still say Church and State should be separate unless you have a national religion. It's annoying for me to hear arguments against it because I feel they either make claims that:

*Church and State should not be separate, All Americans should be one religion and stop kidding themselves.
or
*I hate gay people, but I can't go out and say it directly because people will persecute me for it.

I know people should be rational to hear both sides, but I felt I've heard both sides. Besides, there is only so much you can take listening to a person justifying why they just spat in your soup.

Whoooo, progress.

How many states had legalized same sex marriage before California, anyway? Just Massachusetts? *ignorant of marital law*

They know that if the public votes on it, it'll get voted down.

*My state banned it with a statewide vote 8 years ago, ban won by a friggen landslide*

Reading that..makes me think of our governor..

"A gay marriage should be between a man and a woman."

Or whatever he said.

Actually, in the case of Cali, I seem to remember something about the public voting *for* Gay marriage, then it being vetoed by the Governator.

Good on them. I really hope that stays.

That's horseshit. The people of California said NO to that at a 61%. The left-wing judges overturned the peoples voice. And just when you thought your vote counted.

Good job, California. Now, if only I could forgive you for all the shitty teen dramas set in you, we'd be even. But I can't, can I?

Even if that is so (and you're probably right), the judges did their job, which is shutting down mob rules/tyranny of the majority and making sure minorities are given the rights the judge interpret the constitution to say they should have.

The people who complain about activist judges are the wolves who'd like what's for dinner to be decided by a vote between two wolves and a sheep.

Majorities should never have the say-so when it comes to the rights of minorities. Especially when those rights don't even effect the lives of the majorities.

But if you disregard the majority vote, it ain't a democracy either.

Wait, you do live in the U.S.A. right? Because, in MY country, what the people stay is supposed to stand, and not be over turned by bought out judges, from either side of the Political spectrum.

The people spoke, and that is all that should matter. Mob rule my arse. Voting is tyranny? I'm sorry but that is one of the most socalist, and the stupidest, things I have ever Freakin' heard. No please move to some place like Assuieland or Red China, where that kind of stuff can make you happy.

As for your nice like story, if the wolves and the shepp lived in a country like ours, and they voted, the wolves would win, becuase that is the way shit works.

It's a good thing the US is a republic.

Yes, a Representative Republic.

Yes. That means we get to choose who represents us, and we put it in their hands to decide how our laws should be made. We're just supposed to hope they listen to the majority (though, obviously, that doesn't happen as often as...anyone would like).
