Can we be given alternative suggestions for terms the moderators find offensive?

Hey

So Bmgf seems to have a certain political slant, towards censoring anything that could potentially be seen as slightly offensive to anyone.

Ok, this is your site, your in charge, fine, if you think a term is offensive I wont use it. I don't deliberately go out to offend or break a rule, I don't post anything on here that I wouldn't say in real life. If its bad ok, just tell me, i wont use it while on this site, and say what the correct pc term to use instead is?

BMGf doesn't hold any kind of political stance.

As for offensive words. You should be able get along without the need to use offensive words. But if you are not certain, my advice is... aim the sentence you were going to use at yourself. Does it sound like a personal attack against you? If it does, don't use it. If you are still in doubt, directly private message a staff member. They can help you figure out if the language is inappropriate.

I would in general, avoid derogatory terms. I can't give you an example, for obvious reasons. But words that are racist, sexist, homophobic, attacks against religion or derogatory remarks concerning disabled people, are all likely to get you into trouble.

This section of the rules does contain a few pointers.
8. Don't flame other users, and don't post flamebait. (Flaming and Baiting, 5 points, 3 months)
-Flaming includes insulting people, gloating at them, or threatening them (including "I'll report you")
-Flamebait includes discriminatory posts and slurs based on things like race, gender, sexual orientation, etc (including "that's gay", and "that's retarded".)
-Flamebait also include discussing controversial issues after moderators ask you not to.

9. Don't post inappropriate content (Inappropriate Content, 5 points, 3 months)
-This include graphic sexual humor, threats and violent fantasies about other people (not posters)
- Also includes using the word "rape" in a demeaning/humiliating/joking way. (Ex: "My pokemon raped this pokemon in battle")

10. Don't abuse or harass your fellow users (Abuse & Harassment, 10 points, 4 months)
-Abuse include violent threats, emotional manipulation and pressure, as well as sexual abuse.
-Harassment include mocking or contacting a user who asked you not to, or continually flaming a user.

Good luck :)

Avoid racial/homophobic/bigot language, avoid calling users nasty names. Your best bet is to look at how you word things, and assume that other people will read it. People can find offense in a sentence where it wasn't intended - so try your best to write with clarity.

Also, don't worry too much about warnings or infractions, they really just serve as a reminder of how we expect our members to contribute. We all get warnings now and then, hell I used to be a bit of a troublemaker.

I can't give you an example

Well, you could. What really matters is context, so by telling someone that 'faggot' shouldn't be used on here, you're not breaking any rules - it's just a matter of context.
