Because sometimes, you just come across a post that's so awesome, the user deserves some kind of reward for making it.

To be honest, I'm actually surprised we don't have one. Pretty much every other vBulletin forum I've been a member of has one, so I assume the features built in.

And sometimes I just feel like hitting the negative button just to be a douche.

I think this sums up where we are on the idea of a rep system quite nicely, actually. It's good...and bad.

Adding, we used to have one, and the technology is certainly there, but we see it as open to abuse.

Idk if we could do this, some member's reps would be highly inflated for no reason at all.

I really don't like reputation systems on this site. Not saying it's a bad idea, but personally, I don't like the idea.

Sorry, but some people on this forum are kinda immature xD And would mark peoples "Rep" down for no reason, say, if someone said "I like Umbreon over Flareon!", knowing people on here, a fair few people would mark their "Rep" down for not liking Flareon (that's just an example, I hope you get what I mean).

Or, maybe it's just me who sees it that way... xD

It would be bad, I mean it's a forum with people who get offended easily...and seeing some of the negative rep comments and even seeing their reputation in red would probably cause them to go and bitch about it.

While I think it would be pretty fun, some of the people would just completely ruin it.

Perhaps it would be nice for a like Halloween Party or something and you just do it to see who gets the lowest/highest as something fun. But anyway... I wouldn't like it for regular day to day things.

This is the first I've ever heard of a Rep System... and even so, I don't think it's a good idea. Like others have stated, I can just see it being abused by alot of immature people. It would almost be the equivalent of the thumbs up/thumbs down system that they have on Youtube comments, which as you can see is pretty bad... you see people dumbing down a perfectly legible and reasonal response simply because they're in disagreement with them in the most immature way possible.

And it comes off to me as kinda shallow... there could be some members that are complete know-it-all jerks who would get their reputation raised simply because they seem all badass and owned a n00b or something, and yet at the same time are jerks to others for the most stupidest reasons. Kinda like how most of the snobs in high school are amoung the "popular crowd", if ya get mah drift...

There's already a rep system: users get real reputations by interacting with people. The user is entirely responsible for what impression s/he gives others, and that's all the "rep" people need. Clicking a little +/- button is artificial and pointless.

I've seen rep systems get abused so many times on other sites, there's really no point to it.

Why I dislike rep systems....

A popular member posts a one liner, recieves several positive reps; whilst the new member who replies with an intelligent, three paragraphed reply is usually ignored.

It alienates new members, and like others have said before me, there is too much potential for abuse.

Been on other forums with rep, it lets people know who has the biggest e-peen and who gives the best lulz, so I think it should be here to. The people who don't want to citing abuse, are usually the people who are too serious.

If anyone else is a member of PC (or was) like me, then they know of the chaos that shall insure. Then again the sheer hilarity is enough to support its upbringing.

No, it's because we have enough common sense to know that there's plenty of people out there who will abuse it. And this is the Internet, not out in the real world... so I don't see why somebody's "rep" would be so important, especially if everybody is just a random person on the Internet.

Having a reputation on the Internet isn't important enough, I think, to even warrant a Rep System. If somebody thinks you're a good person, then let them think that. If somebody thinks you're an ass, let them think that... to each other, we're all just a bunch of random people on the Internet, who we shouldn't be worrying about in the first place.

also this is the internet not some political correct antieverything forum, I think if the admins had some lulz in them they would implement it just so people can abuse it, if it gets abused then so what, its just the internet.
