Depends on whether Sceptile are normally carnivorous or not. While some Pokemon are more obviously carnivorous than others (you certainly wouldn't want to be stalked by a pack of wild Luxray or Houndoom), Sceptile's taste in food has not been clarified.

I always imagined it was a vegetarian because of its beak-like mouth and grass typing. I bet it could if it wanted to, but it would probably have trouble digesting a person. Its stomach may not be complex enough for meat, and almost certainly not for bones.

Also I don't think it could swallow an adult whole either. It's mouth and neck are too narrow and its body is just too small for that.

Depends if it has a taste for manflesh.

Taken from Sceptile's HGSS Dex entrie: It agilely leaps about the jungle and uses the sharp leaves on its arms to strike its prey.

I say it's possible seeing how their just as tall as a human, not to mention the fact that they have leaves on their arms that are sharper then swords.

Maybe it just likes violently attacking fruit. Ok, you have a good point. It might be carnivorous

Considering this guy was my long time favourite, this topic gave me a mind fuck.

Good point, "prey" isn't a word typically associated with eating plants. And many reptiles are generally carnivorous....

It could also be an omnivore as well. We really don't know. But it could very well develop a taste for human flesh; some older lions become man-eaters because they aren't able to take down their usual prey. It could be a similar case with Sceptile. (Could make for a neat creepypasta, now that I think about it.)

Sceptiles don't exist in the wild, as far as we know.

It's Dex entry indicate that they do exist in the wild, also the Anime and the Ranger series made it clear that wild starter Pokemon do exist in special areas where catching Pokemon is illegal.

Not to mention Pro. Oak in GSC/HGSS referred to the player's starter as "A Rare Pokemon" so apparently starter do exist in the wild.

I think a human would be good for at least 2 or 3 Sceptile meals. Which bring to mind the question - how much does a Steelix need to eat per day?

When it comes to questions like this, I always turn to this song.

It's highly unlikely in all honesty. If wild Sceptile had the capabilities to eat humans, then they'd definitely be prohibited from being caught in the Pokemon universe. Unless of course, they're really laid back on rules/restrictions. Besides that, Sceptile looks more of a vegetarian then anything else. It's beak-like mouth could be used to pluck plants and roots, while its height would assist in reaching higher-up places. Overall even though the blades on their arms are sharp, I don't think Sceptiles follow a violent personality. Another thing to think about is how on earth it can eat a human in the first place if it doesn't even have any teeth. :p

They probably have better prey to hunt, and are already rare in the wild anyways. A human is too large for it and too much of a bother. Not like it can't kill a human, but I doubt it's something it'd normally do.

Furthemore, as a Grass type, I'd think they aren't as relying on eating other things as most pokémon, since it'd be able to just photosynthesize part of what it needs.
So they probably hunt small prey, perhaps that could be easily shared among their groups. Maybe fish?

Either way, I don't think a Sceptile of all things one would really attack you for no less of a reason than defend itself or get you away or something.
It just doesn't seem that instinct-driven, nor would such an instinct make much sense. They are definitely of a closer intelligence.

Now, more aggresive and instinctive pokémon would try to. For example, Beautifly as it is reportedly violent. Which is why it is dangerous to go into the wilderness alone.

I feel that if Sceptile were able to eat humans, then they'd make at least some note of it in the Dex entries. Prey can mean that it eats certain kinds of animals/Pokémon, not necessarily anything as tall or smaller than it.

With the absence of real teeth and it's part-plant nature, I have a feeling it's more of a frugivore (fruit eater) that supplements its diet with photosynthesis.
