Odd question, I know...i'll try to approch this carefully.

Basicly, the question is...can you be too OVERALL 'feminine' to be a Pokemon fan, and, thus, have to lose intrest past a certurn age? I've been questioning this for quite awile...that's why i'm asking, though I don't want to explain why at the moment.

Because...it does seem all 'female' Pokemon fans have been tomboys as kids, or, something...or, if they haven't been, they've became VERY tomboyish after around reaching their teen years, or, something, and, thus, can like Pokemon, but probably never liked the 'cute' ones very much. That's what it seemed like, from what i've been seeing...I never see actual 'girly girls' into Pokemon (unless their maybe really young?). 0-o; Soo yeah...that's why i'm asking.

In a way, I guess it's simular to the question 'can you be too old for pokemon?'...only, prehaps not asked as often (and maybe not that many people have really questioned it, prehaps they didn't have any reason to...who know's). Well...just want to know what might come up now. o-o;

What I think, you can be to mature for pokemon, but never to old, if you still like it. And I have thought, since this series of D/P with Dawn, things have gotten a little more girly in the anime (what with Dawn dressing up the pokemon and her contest dresses etc...)

I am no girl, but I could say, it does not matter how girly you are, if you still like the show and your a girl, you don't have to be a tomboy, well, its more your preference, but it does seem that some girls are more tomboyish and like pokemon, but I don't know that much being a man and the only person I know near me that likes pokemon and does not think its "A kids show and not for people my age" or "A baby show" etc...

Nah, I don't think so. I know a lot of girly girls who like Pokemon, and even though I myself am not very girly, I think you can be girly and still enjoy Pokemon. I don't think Pokemon is a boyish thing, as a lot of people think.

Think of all the contests and cute Pokemon. They're more feminine than masculine. There's many, feminine elements into Pokemon. People just assume it's just about fighting and becoming stronger. There's beauty and cuteness, too!

Pokemon is not a boyish thing at all. ((It's for both genders ^^))
So there are ones like Eevee and Pachirisu which are cute little things and then big scary beasts liek Dialga or Palkia.
I'm not a girl and I love Pachirisu because it is a cute little squirrel ^^;, So would that make me "girly?". I don't think so!
You can't be too old eithier. I know someone in my school thats 15 *same age* and he likes Tellytubbies, It's shocking at first but if he likes it then who are we to question it.
Anyways back on topic: No, I don't think pokemon can be too girly or you can be too old for pokemon.

It's true that the girls that are watching pokemon are more tomboyish but i'm a real girly girl myself and still like the anime and there are more girly girls out there who still like pokemon :)

Tellytubbies? Really? wow..I give him all my respect that he tells that too other people :O

1. Have you seen the contests lately on the anime.
2. Have you seen the contests lately in the games.
3. I'm a Lolita. Can't get much girlier than that.

So in short...

no.

I'm not a girly girl anyways so I can't relate but I still like vute pokemon like Pikachu if they are powerful cute pokemon

I'm quite girlyish and always have been, and damn I love this franchise! I think it's more a case of preference rather than how feminine you are. I know plenty of girly girls (myself included) who can't get enough, and then a lot of tomboys/ACTUAL boys who can't stand it.

That is true. But how many of those tomboys/ACTUAL boys have actually tried the games. Ok so the anime can get annoying to alot, however I think alot of people just assume it's a cute cuddly and girly show...Which it isn't.

I'm wondering how many would say Pokemon *games especially* are bad if they actually examined and reviewed them. ((I know some would still hate it))
One person I know on Newgrounds, he said he hated pokemon, made a flash of Pikachu and Squirtle and now finds even the anime ok.
Episode is "Pokemanze" if people want proof of this.

Huh? I'd think it's rather mature to admit to one's self that you like a series intended for children. Maybe not put-the-bread-on-the-table mature, but certainly more mature than not liking something that you truly do just because you're not the target audience.

I think it depends on how you view the franchise. There is a mature way to view it, whilst still enjoying it.

And no, at this point you can't be 'too girly' for Pokemon. I'm no authority on the subject, being male, but it has become obvious that they have started throwing stuff like contests, as well as making May and Dawn one of the two faces of their stint in the anime -- rather than just Ash -- into the franchise to appeal to young girls. In its early years Pokemon had a male-centric fan-base, but they have attempted to broaden their audience, and it has worked. . .somewhat.

There is?

Could you elaborate on that? How do you define "mature," and how would you portray enjoying Pokemon the mature way?

(I say this as an older Pokemon fan. I always assumed my enjoyment was just due to my having an overactive inner child, and the willingness to indulge it...)

Should we start a new thread for this question...?

An interesting question I see right now. I can imagine that Pokémon contests were intended to add a more feminine touch to the show, in addition to the more obvious features, such as Dawn's Pachirisu. In my case, however, I like Pokémon even more now than I used to when I was younger, and my reasons may differ substantially now from my past reasons. To be more specific, Dawn's encounter with Mesprit, a Pokémon that represents emotion, and Ash's encounter with Azelf, a Pokémon that represents willpower, combine to stand out to my mind much more than these contests because I sense a certain mystical component to those Lake Guardian encounters. Combine this (possible) mysticism with Team Galactic's world-ending agenda and Pokémon Hunter J's ruthlessness, and I would opine that rather than just becoming more girly, Pokémon is getting to be much more serious and dramatic than it used to be. Yes, my interests are what they are, but if nothing else, I would think that boys and girls alike can watch this show, if for different reasons.

Yes. I agree. Although it's not immature to not admit it to the world aswell.
Thinking about it which is the most mature option:
**That some teens and adults still like pokemon ((It was aimed at kids but that doesn't mean that ONLY kids should like it)) OR
**That someone is in jail for serious offences....

I'd certainly say: Pokemon is the most mature and if you end up in jail for a serious offense or even minor and it was your fault: You are very Immature indeed.
Also Pokemon is infact **Too me* a helper in learning. I learned some really cool facts and information earlier than I would at school.
I learned about the word Absorb and how towels absorb water, earlier than my classmates.
I was extremely interested in Pokemon Platinum when Cyrus started talking about Genes! So I do believe Pokemon is helping people learn..

((I've covered the topic about whether people are too old too much XD))
Anyways I'm sticking to my statement: No, you cannot be too old or girly for pokemon.

((Finally: if my post sounds insulting or upsetting to you then please say. I will edit.))

Everyone. I'm a 90's kid, we ALL played/watched/traded and actually, I know a lot more (girly) girls liked the games than boys. Of course there were plenty of boys who did like it, but I don't think love of Pokemon is correlated to gender, moreso in fact at the target age.

I'm sure contests are working, but all the girls enjoyed Pokemon even way back when, and it being too boyish was never a problem :/

Mature way in viewing the franchise, not enjoying it, of course part of the reason an older fan enjoys it is partly due to an overactive inner child and/or nostalgia.

When I say mature, I mean accepting it -- especially in the case of the anime -- for what it is, not taking it too seriously, -- as some do -- and just enjoying some mindless entertainment.

For instance, when I was young, I enjoyed the anime because it became a thirty minute escape into a fantasy world, I now enjoy it -- the English dub at least -- for the inherent corny puns and awkward inflections. . .I generally enjoy things that are 'so bad, they're good.'

I used to enjoy the games because I saw them as an extension of the anime, hence I had to have them. I now appreciate them as deep RPG games, as well as a line of games that, more or less, hasn't changed over the last thirteen years and yet ably retains its popularity and, surprisingly, quality.

I also now can appreciate Pokemon's rise to power across the world, and eventual downfall, more than I used to. As I've said before, Pokemon is my favorite example of successfully exploiting a franchise for your own, capitalistic, gain.

Maybe mature wasn't the best word choice. Cynically, maybe?

Sorry. I was talking about the ones that go around saying "Pokemon is rubbish or pokemon is gay" I mean those people
