Can you trade from american version to an english version?

For Diamond and pearl you can.
I trade my Australian version with my American version. They both trade with my Japanese version.

I don't see why the english version would be different. It has online and people are using GTS over there and thus are getting Pokemon from all over the world so it shouldn't do any harm.

You should be able to, considering you can trade from the English to Japanese and vice-versa, so one in the same language shouldn't be a problem.

I've traded from Spanish to Japanese, so anything inbetween should work.

Oh, but if you mean from a GBA game to Diamond and Pearl via Pal Park I'm pretty sure you need the corresponding game (I know atleast an English Ruby to Japanese Diamond won't worl)

I used Pal Park with my British LG and it worked on my American Pearl game.
