Canadian Press said:
The Canadian government has demanded an apology from Fox News for "despicable" and "disgusting" comments made on one of its late-night programs.

The government was incensed by a recent talk-show segment on the American conservative cable network that poked fun at Canada and the Canadian military.

A group of pundits took turns trashing Canada and its reliability as an ally in fighting terrorism last week as four more Canadian soldiers were killed in separate attacks in Afghanistan.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay requested an apology just before leaving for Canadian Forces Base Trenton, where he was to attend a repatriation ceremony with the families of the latest soldiers killed.

"It's crass, it's insensitive, it's in fact disgusting, given the timing," MacKay said.

"There should be an apology - to the families in particular, and to the Canadian Forces and to Canada generally - given the sacrifice and the commitment that we've demonstrated in Afghanistan."

Canadian soldiers have been fighting in Afghanistan since 2001 and have spent the last four years in the country's most violent region.

Canada has lost 116 soldiers in Afghanistan.

A spokesman stressed that the Canadian government specifically wants an apology from the panelists who made the wisecracks - and not just from the Fox network at large.

"These are despicable, hurtful and ignorant comments," said Dan Dugas, a spokesman for MacKay.

"I think that so-called comedian should stare in the camera at his first opportunity and apologize to all of the families of people he's hurt with these despicable comments.

"And he's got to say, 'I was misinformed. I was ignorant of the truth and the contribution of the Canadian Forces to the war on terror, and I want to take it back. I know as a comedian that I can fail sometimes; I failed miserably at this so-called comedy.'

"And his panelists should say the same."

Canada says it will withdraw most of its 2,500 troops from Kandahar when its current combat mission expires in 2011.

News of that impending withdrawal, and the army chief's comments that the military would need a year's hiatus to regroup and refurbish, served as a launching pad for members of the Fox panel to mock Canada.

The five-minute Fox News segment aired last week on the late-night program "Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld" and it was later posted on YouTube.

The segment features American panelists suggesting Canadian soldiers need time off for "manicures and pedicures."

The item aired after Lt.-Gen. Andrew Leslie, the Canadian Forces Chief of Land Staff, said the military would need a one-year break from operations after the difficult mission in Afghanistan winds down.

"The Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white capri pants," Gutfeld said with a sneer, adding: "Isn't this the perfect time to invade this ridiculous country? They have no army."

Another panelist, Doug Benson, said he didn't even know Canadian troops were in Afghanistan.

"I didn't even know they were in the war. I thought that's where you go if you don't want to fight - you go chill in Canada," he said.

The segment was posted online under the title, "How to Lose Friends and Alienate Countries."

So far, more than 3,000 people have posted responses to the clip, which also makes fun of RCMP officers and their traditional red uniforms.

And a response from the Canadian Defence Minister: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApUoQdRU35I&feature=response_watch

To quote from the infobox in the second video: "This is how the US lose wars. This is how the US are making enemies around the world. And this is how Republicans lose elections. Making fun of dead Canadian soldiers doesn't help. US Republican douchebags are the only people dumb enough in the history of the planet to actually make fun of and humiliate their own allies in a time of war. Ignorance, insensitivity and greed, this is the Faux News Creed."

And I thought the "French Military Victories" myth was bad.

To repeat my VM to you Valdez.

Ugh. Fox news is still as disgusting as ever. :<

I mean Canada is waaaaayyyyy better than the US if you want to live a normal life.

Seriously I truly agree with this.

Sums up what I think.

This is exactly why we should just fuck FOX.

Indeed, why bother with any american-owned news station? They're as bad as rooskie propaganda.

And yet, the American stations are what bring in the money. Canada's original TV/radio station, CBC, has been in financial trouble for years, especially now.

Controversy sells. Being a douche sells. Fox News is great at both.

I'm not Canadian and I was insulted. Personally, those idiots should give3 a full-blown apology, but hey, what do I know about humility?

Well, duh. CBC was meant to be a public service, not a commercial tool.

Jesus...makes me wonder how I stand my dad sometimes. He LOVES the Fox network.

...If it weren't so cold, I'd honestly consider actually moving up there to Canada to live. Hell, I'm sort of considering it in the back of my mind despite the cold.

Considering that almost all of the Canadians I know could kick the ass of anyone on Fox, I find this amusing for all the wrong reasons. Kinda like the scrawny brat who makes fun of anybody stronger than him because he thinks it makes him look tough. You just want to tell them that if they can't behave, then they have to go to bed early- and no TV for a week, young man!

The cold is really overexaggerated. 90% of the Canadian population lives within 100 miles of the Canada-US border, if I remember correctly, so it's really not an issue to most people. Hell, British Columbia rarely goes below freezing, and even in places like Montreal and Ottawa it isn't much colder than New York City. In the summer it often breaks 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit for those on that scale), and frequently feels higher than 40 (104 F).

It still stinks that there's still a ton of snow during the start of a Canadian spring, though. It's mostly the duration of the Canadian winter rather than its intensity that we have to put up with.

See, that wouldn't be an issue to most people, but I've lived my entire life -- literally -- in a Mediterranean/desert climate. So...suffice to say I get cold REALLY easily.

0_o *twitch*
I thought they were bad with Mayor tortimer being a pedo and the PSP being a high powered PC for porn but insulting other countries on the same day 4 warriors fell? They should bend down and receive the stuff they deserve but i cant post cause its 18+ ill leave it at that.

As a Canadian this is insulting.
Seriously, our soldiers are losing their lives. If they take a one-year break to see their families and whatnot then it should be alright. They don't need to be pictured in "gorgeous white capris".

FOX news... I swear that's a misnomer. Can't they be sued for false advertising over that?

What do you do when your economy is in the tank? What about when you're in the middle of a war? You burn bridges. FOX news always has the answer :D [/sarcasm]

And I've never even heard of Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld. Ever. Not even on The Soup.
