Canadian al Qaeda terrorist plot in Quebec busted

The timing with this and the Boston Marathon is a eyebrow raiser, but I would think after the Boston attacks, the Canadian police figured it was time to finally go in and get the group they had been monitoring.

Canadian police and intelligence agencies will announce later today they have thwarted a plot to carry out a major terrorist attack, arresting suspects in Ontario and Quebec, CBC News has learned.

Highly placed sources tell CBC News the alleged plotters have been under surveillance for more than a year in Quebec and southern Ontario.

The investigation was part of a cross-border operation involving Canadian law enforcement agencies, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The arrests Monday morning were co-ordinated and executed by a special joint task force of RCMP and CSIS anti-terrorism units, combined with provincial and municipal police forces in Ontario and Quebec.

There will be a news conference held in less than a hour by the RCMP about this event.

As scary as this can be, it is nice to know that the vast majority of the time, the officials do get it right and catch these guys.

Edit: Updated the thread title to reflect what was said at the news conference, in that this was an al Qaeda supported plot.

Each of them are pertaining to different plots, attempts and attacks, thus separate and belong in their own threads. To combine them into a mega thread would take away from the gravity, severity and tragedy of such events, and to stop covering them would be disingenuous. If the topic does not interest you, it is simple enough to ignore the threads. If it offends you, I apologize, but I personally will not allow suppression of knowledge, information and discussion on those grounds.

Well, at least no innocent people will die, like in September 2001. I'm sorry if mentioning it is offensive, but my cousin was there, in the NYPD. Horrible day, even if I was only a toddler at the time. At least we know they were caught. That puts my mind at rest.

Yes true! I wonder why are these suspects always Muslims and why always Muslim plot terrorism in their view. They don't even think about the innocent killings done by them in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan where mostly innocent women and children got killed. Dual satndard they have. Have't they?
