hi!

i run my own personal forum for a small friend group, and wanted to be able to use the RSS feed for the Bulbanews subforum to automatically make discussion posts, sort of recreating following an announcement channel on discord (i am trying alternatives to discord and forums seemed like a good fit).

unfortunately, it seems my VPS has been blocked, since i was making a lot of requests at first for testing, and it still is even though i'm now only making requests every few days. even then, during testing, i was only making requests every few hours.

i know i was probably blocked because when i try to request feeds, i am instantly timed out.

so, a few questions:
  • why was i blocked? i don't think i was making that many requests during setup, which makes me concerned regarding how actual RSS feed readers would be treated.
  • what is your criteria for blocking clients, so we know how to respectfully use Bulbagarden forum RSS feeds?
i won't be sharing the domain of my forum since idk if that would count as advertising/self-promo, but i can provide it if asked.

thanks :)

oh shoot this should be in garden grotto, im sorry!! can someone move this or should i remake the post?

edit: it was moved yipee

@FlitPix hello! i dont want you to feel as if we're leaving you in the dust with this, but the person best qualified to answer this is very busy. we'll poke him on this thread and he'll look at it and respond when he gets the chance. wanted to let you know!

Sorry, I've recently moved overseas and have a lot of things on my plate.

The TLDR would likely be that your VPS would've been blocked incidentally, rather than being specifically targeted. Since around Pokopia's launch, we've been the target of multiple AI bot mass scrapes and possible DDoS attempts. Your VPS likely just happened to be on one of the subnets that we've had to ban because of that abuse.

If you can provide me privately with any information from your end that might assist, including but not limited to the specific domain, IP, etc, that your requests would be coming from, I can pass them on to our technical team to see if they can whitelist you. That might take a while though, since we have to be sure that whatever hole we open up for you can't also be exploited by malicious actors.
